Let me see, where to start! 3 1/2 days in the hotel, not one change of towels, or bedding, and never cleaned, and we did ask for towels, bedding and cleaning. The single elevator requires a walk through what seems like a maze similar to a scene out of the Shining - no elevator in or near the lobby. FYI, the elevator comes with a sign reminding guests that it can only carry 2 persons. The 24-hour Starbucks - forget it, or as I told my daughter it is only open 24-hours, if someone is staffing it and provides service - no such luck. At 7:30 am, prime breakfast time, which is at the counter where Starbucks is located, only had one person working, and after waiting 15 minutes, and being ignored, as I tried to get a coffee, I finally gave up.

Check in was a breeze and they were able to accommodate a friend and I with rooms close together (right across the hall in fact).
The room was a bit dated, but most importantly the room was clean. Comfy beds and comfy pillows. The in room AC unit did a great job warming the space.
There is an indoor pool, it also looked a bit dated.
Lobby area has a small bar that serves breakfast and dinner items. It's not served out of a full kitchen, rather they make things and use a little oven. I wasn't impressed with the appetizers for dinner that we grabbed with drinks, which is where they lost a star. If you want a good dinner you'll have to leave the hotel. For drinks, the bar is just fine though the selection is limited.
All in all it was a good stay.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 18, 2022
Had an appointment in downtown Detroit and opted to stay here. It was in a safe area and 10 minutes to Somerset area. The courtyard area was very nice. They had fire pits and private seating areas. We had a 2nd floor, balcony, court view. The room was clean and beds were comfy. The room coffee is bad. Real bad. There is only 1 elevator so there is potentially walking or stairs. We looked and looked and looked and never did find an ice machine. The mini fridge was clean & came in handy. I would stay there again.

My best friend and I have birthdays four days apart and we wanted a little getaway with her two daughters.
We had such a great experience here! Everyone we encountered at the hotel was friendly, courteous, helpful, and respectful from front desk staff, the gentleman who helped us with our luggage, the kitchen/Starbucks staff, and maid service. And really, besides the cleanliness of the rooms, most hotels especially of a chain, are so similar that it's the customer service that I appreciate so much and that sets the exceptional ones apart and that I would recommend to others.
Rooms were very clean, comfortable, and updated. Pool and whirlpool were relaxing. I could have done with a hotter temperature for the hot tub but it was still enjoyable.
There's a little pantry with snacks and other essential items but we got breakfast from the Starbucks kitchen. There is a limited menu right now but we all found something we could eat.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 21, 2018
Giving 2 stars because of the really nice staff. I put some of my employees here when we visit Detroit. Tired old property, needs a remodel, scratched doors, dirty carpet, smelly everywhere. Room was clean, but tired and smelled of years of other guests. Worn out chair, nasty carpet, felt dirty even though it was cleaned.
But the real problem is that it is a PARTY HOTEL. Parties every night, lots of noise, and apparently no attempt to calm them down. So if you are a business traveler, stay away. ANY of the other properties in this area are better.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Karla P.Indianapolis, IN02Mar 19, 2022
My husband and I had a great experience here. Very clean and a very helpful staff. We especially enjoyed a lovely breakfast in their bar area.

Stayed here for one night and found the front desk person not friendly at all, a very poor check-in experience. The room was decent sized, but because there was a noise from what seemed to be coming from the heating unit, it kept us up all night. We advised front desk management who were quick to respond, but what did they say?--"we haven't heard any other complaints". Not something a paying customer likes to hear, or is very helpful. They said they would have their engineer look at it and didn't provide much for the sleepless night.

We should have been warned that the hotel was undergoing major renovations. After traveling all day from CA we arrived near midnight. The elevator was not working and my 90 year old Mother had to climb a lot of stairs. We moved to a different room later in our 8 day stay but the entire hotel was noisy. Workers were drilling and hammering overhead by 8 a.m. every day. We were in town for a wedding and the trip was ruined by lack of sleep. Also a lack of breakfast and no lunch. I would warn everyone to find another hotel

This location continues to get by with just a three star review - not sure if I'll ever raise it - seems more likely I will reduce it in the future.
The staff remains good, but this time the pool area was horrible - so much so that I could not use the pool or the hot tub! I did speak with a member of management, but an immediate solution was not found.
There is another Marriott property being built right down the road and if it's open when I return I might check it out and give up on this place!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

Dear Tom,
Thank you for your repeat business. I appreciate your positive comments on my staff, your welcome bag, the cleanliness and TV. Your concerns during your recent visit regarding the pool chemicals were passed on to me by my Operations Manager. I assure you we took them seriously and verified that all levels were in the appropriate range. All guest feedback is used in a positive way as my team and I strive to continuously improve our service to our valued guests.
We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again should your travels bring you back to Troy!
Sincerely,
Wendy Fresorger

Detroit Troy CourtyardSep 10, 2013Previous reviewAnother stop over at this location and I find myself giving it the same star rating. However, I'd up it by a half a star if I could.
The people at the front desk were happy and cheerful and offered up a guest bag of goodies this time - love the whole status thing.
However, it's still a rather noisy hotel and I keep getting stuck on the first floor far away from everything.
My room was exceptionally large and very clean though and it had everything I expect it to have. Nice clean towels and bedding - large TV with plenty of channels and free breakfast - not bad I suppose!May 22, 2013Previous reviewLately Marriott properties (courtyards in particular) have really let me down (this one included). As a loyal Marriott patron - I have been dissatisfied with their level of commitment to us.
Upon check in - I was told that they had a room closest to the fitness room and pool - when in fact - the only room further away would have been the one on the second floor directly above my room.
The new layout is still not desirable to me - Starbucks bigbucks - I liked the old buffet and help yourself to coffee or tea - FREE! You get NOTHING anymore for free. As a gold member - some places give you a little something extra - a cookie - a bottle of water - but here - nothing - not even body lotion - just shampoo and conditioner. Again - it appears this hotel has opted out of anything and everything that might get you to come back.
The staff checking me in wasn't friendly - the staff at the lounge didn't seem well trained and the girl at the register was a bit rude and "out of sorts". It also didn't help much to have a false alarm go off while I was just sitting down! Then it didn't help when someone from hotel management decided to knock on my door at about 4:30 in the morning and had he wrong room.
Somehow along the way - Marriott is slipping and making Hilton or Holiday Inns look better and better. We shall see what next week is like when I"m in Ohio!
Room was clean though - internet connection easy and somewhat fast and TV channels were decent - so though I didn't like the service - or the inconveniences - I am still giving the place the 3 stars! - Jeff H.Franklin, TN07Apr 9, 2016
Hotel was what you would expect from this brand.
Front desk staff was VERY helpful, as there were several disabled hockey teams staying for 4 nights. Very accommodating, allowed us full use of their dining area and lounge.
Rooms were spacious enough, and thankfully, plenty of accessible outlets for charging phones, etc (pet peeve of mine in hotels!)
The only downside would be the location of the elevator. The elevator is in the back corner of the property, meaning, if the hotel is full and you need the elevator, but your room is on the front side of the property... you'll be walking the length of the property twice to get to and from your room.
Again, this certainly is not the fault of the manager or staff, but just a really poor design flaw.
Would be a 5-star review if not for this.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
