Welcome to Clearview Farm The 200 year old farm with the "Clearview" of Mount Wachusett has been in our family since 1906 - five generations. We welcome you to share the New England Fall Harvest of fresh produce and related products from August through the holidays. Open Daily 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Thru October 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Thru the season Our History In 1906 Caswell and Etta Wood bought the property which consisted of a traditional farm house with all post and beam barn and wind driven well. Their only surviving child, Edith Wood, a well known elementary school teacher in town married "the boy next door", Norman Sawyer, from the Sawyer farmstead of Mary Had a Little Lamb fame. In the 1940's Norman planted the standard orchard of mostly macintosh apples still used today for PYO and cider apples. Norman and Edith's oldest grand daughter, Diane, and her husband Rick moved here in 1989. They were the first to make it a retail farm operation. It started with a single PYO pumpkin patch for their 3 daughters to earn enough money to have a horse. The farm has changed and grown with the family Now Clearview Farm is a 32 acre seasonal orchard and farm stand run by Rick and Diane Melone. It is located at 4 Kendall Hill Road in Sterling, Massachusetts. This farm has an interesting historical background because of it's ties to the home of Mary E. Sawyer, the little girl in the nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb."...…

We were really excited to try this place! On the surface, it's cute. A nice rustic farm stand. The prices were out of control. Three pumpkins were over $50. Afterward we went to Meadowbrook Farm and their pumpkins were better and less than half the price.

Beyond that, a snotty girl was working at the counter slowly giving out cookies and donuts. I asked her if the apple orchard had cider and she said "no" with no other explanation. She then said "we're making more but it'll be a while". I asked how long it takes and she was super annoyed. Sighing and rolling her eyes she ran back to ask someone else. Upon her return, she told us it would be at least two hours. That was all fine, places run out of things so it was totally understandable. As we're walking out, a lady walked in and asked for cider. The girl asked her how much she needed and went into a different area to give her two bottles. I don't know if the girl that "helped" us was just rude and lazy or really didn't know they had some, but either way, a super disappointing experience.

In any area filled with great family farms with similar products, you'd think they might focus a tiny bit on customer service.

First: I love that they allow dogs to join you in your annual autumn activity. That was probably the best part of the farm.

However, the farm itself is not all that great. If your going for apples, then me be clear, DO NOT DO IT. As previous reviewers have commented, the apples are "okay" (an overstatement I think). But check this out, their smallest bag for apple picking is $20! I get $20 might not seem a lot for many, but it's definitely not worth it for the quality and amount of apples you actually can get. In addition, there was no map provided for the farm. I asked where to go and the lady who attended the main register just said, "follow the apple tree". Literally, no further instructions we given. We ended up noticing that the farm wasn't even that big, and that the apples are almost all the same. So we left pretty quickly.

On our way back to the car, however, we spotted the pumpkin patch. If I were to go again, it might be just for the pumpkin patch.

Overall, if your looking for a small farm to take your family pumpkin picking, then perhaps this is a match. But for apple picking it's definitely a place to avoid. It was so unorganized and not well maintained. And again, the price was ridiculous.

A small, family run farm. A great place to pick apples, pumpkins and berries. Delicious baked good and a few adorable farm animals. Beautiful, quintessential place!

I wanted to give this two stars, but everything was 3-quality except one thing...

I came here with a girlfriend for an apple picking adventure. We got two coupons from www.buywithme.com and used one of them ($25 value) for picking apples. The apples, in several varieties were very tasty and the orchard was clean, well-kept and the man they had working out there was very helpful in directing what apples varieties were where. The apples were worth the trip.

The second coupon we used on farm store goods. This excluded bakery and jams--basically you could only buy produce. We got several large heirloom tomatoes, a basket of small heirloom tomatoes, onions, egglplants, shallots, bell peppers and a few other things, which so far, have all been great.

Also on our visit, we checked out the pumpkins, ate a cider donut, which wasn't very cider-y and mostly just covered in sugar, ate a pumpkin-choc chip cookie (5 stars for that thing) and scoped out the cider. You can have b-day parties here, too.

I wanted to give this place two stars because the owner was curt, unfriendly and in my opinion, rude. She seemed more annoyed with the people than interested in helping. I did not see her crack one smile.

All in all, the day was lovely with my friends, but probably won't come back due to unfriendly owner and I'm sure there are other comparable

Cute mini apple orchard that doesn't require ladders. Good selection of apples. Alright pastry.

Had a nice time apple picking with my SO & her dog. No crowds and appreciative of the fact dogs are allowed, albeit they be kept on a leash. However, the owner doesn't need to apply those same rules to his own dog

The day ended very poorly when we were about to put our bounty in the car, when the owner's bulldog ran up to our dog (a novia skotia duck tolling retriever named "starfox") and starting immediately snapping and growling at him, causing Starfox to jump back yelping, knocking our apples onto the ground, damaging half of them. So we're using our feet to push the bulldog back becasue he WOULD NOT BACK OFF, as I fumble to open the car door to put Starfox inside. I finally got the door open after a long 18 seconds of panic and shoved Starfox inside and shut the door. NO RESPONSE when I yelled for the owner of the bulldog. I mentioned the incident to an employee who couldn't be bothered, and shrugged it off without apologizing or even acknowledging what happened. With that attititude, an honest recap of what happened seems like the best course of action to prevent incidents like these from wrecking an otherwise great day.

So, people friendly I suppose. Dog friendly, if every dog abides by the rules during business hours.

I have been apple picking at Clearview Farms for several years. This is a nice quaint new england farm. I appreciate that they still have the nice old fashioned orchard feel and are not trying to be commercial. They have hay rides on the weekends. They have really good Pumpkin Whoopie Pies as well as Cider Donuts. I look forward to visiting each fall!

Nice big apple orchard, with a good sized bakery/cafe included. Lots of pumpkins for sale (we bought three).

Apple picking- good selection of apples, okay prices. Not terrific, okay.
Raspberry picking, too! Cider donuts were caked with sugar. Not made fresh for you, either.

Clearview sits up on a high hill, with a terrific vista to the east. It's truly a lovely spot to visit.

Meadowbrook is nicer, though. And the food is better, though they sell less produce.

After experiencing so many crowded, overpriced 'commercial' apple orchard /pumpkin farms- clearview was a delightful discovery! Quaint, serene, lovely scenery, Many selections of PYO, a quaint 'play area' for kids, high quality pre-picked items (carrots, garlic, carrots, eggplant, gourds) at a far more affordable prices than we'd seen. Bakery inside, jams/jellies, frozen prepared foods. I will go regularly!

I'm not quite sure why Clearview is getting such mediocre reviews. I've visited them at the local farmers market and just visited their orchard and store for the first time recently. They have always been very pleasant and their fruits and vegetables are delicious and fairly priced. My visit to the orchard was no different. And, I had to try a cider donut because of the reviews. It tasted like most that I've had before from many other orchards, yummy! As for the person that said it wasn't cider-y enough well, cider donuts are not really meant to taste like apple cider....they are made with cider and are coated with sugar, cinnamon and often nutmeg. Anyway, I'll be back to visit for sure!

My husband and I stopped by to experience our annual pumpkin picking. We weren't impressed with their pumpkin patch. Although it is pick your own, the patch is small with underdeveloped pumpkins. On a more positive note, we enjoyed their pumpkin donuts and apple pumpkin bisque (although not hot). We won't be stopping by again next year.
