Q:
Recommended for a birthday dinner?
A:
Depends what you're looking for. The waiters do sing Happy Birthday. Not what I would want, but I can see why some would like this place for a birthday.

Ugh! I'm a New Yorker of 40+ years and for many years, had wanted to go to Cipriani's for a special dinner. Attended a few events in the ballroom over the years, just never ate at the restaurant.
So yesterday is my son's bday and he asks to eat at Cipriani's. Sadly, was not a memorable dining experience. I've been in the hospitality industry for years, so know a thing or two about what good service and good quality food is all about. Ive always had the view that you're only as strong as your weakest link and while service was decent, the quality of the food was so poor, that it just overshadowed everything else and was not reflective of what I expected from Cipriani's over the years.
Appetizers were fine....nothing special. Artichokes were a disappointment in that they were mushy and tasteless, but the real disappointment came when dinner arrived. I watched my wife barely pick at her salmon and then looked over at my daughter's plate (also ordered the salmon) and saw that she put her fork down after 2 or 3 bites. My son and I got the Wagyu filet mignon, and I can tell you, this cut of filet was anything but Wagyu quality....tough and tasteless is how I would best describe it. Then my wife and daughter both say that their salmon is inedible, boring and dry...always thought it was tough to screw up salmon, but they did. Daughters boyfriend gets the pasta and its a serving of about 5-6 bites, so I share some of my steak w him...poor kid was starving and they give him a kid's sized plate of pasta.
We then let our waiter know of our disappointment with the salmon (didn't want to bring up the poor quality of my steak or the measly portion of pasta) and they apologize and then proceed to give us a bowl of ice cream and a single piece of cake. While I appreciated the gesture, they should have comped us for the salmon or something more than a bowl of ice cream.
Again, service was great, but the food quality overall was severely lacking, especially considering it was a $600+ meal.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 13, 2023
I was a fiction judge for the National Book Awards this year (hooray, Justin Torres!), and my husband and I got to go to the ceremony. It was a glamorous occasion, a black tie event at Cipriani Wall Street. LeVar Burton hosted, and Oprah gave a speech that made me think she could totally win the presidency. I got a corsage for judging and walked the red carpet. There's a Daily Mail article about the awards and after a hundred pictures of Cindy Crawford and Kerry Washington and other people mostly famous for things bigger than books, they posted a photo of me and said I looked incredible [painting nails emoji].
The venue was grand and beautiful, definitely the nicest place I've ever attended a book event. I think there were 700 guests, and the space might have felt cavernous for a smaller party. Both the initial cocktail reception and the afterparty took place on the premises, at two bars on the first and second levels, and there was a seated dinner with dozens of tables arranged on the first floor, with a view of the stage.
Service was smooth and efficient, which is all one can hope for at an enormous gala. I drank wine and mixed drinks (whiskey and ginger ale, and there might have been a gin martini in there) and had to pace myself so I didn't get sloppy in the seven hours I spent on the premises. Food was okay, no better or worse than expected. There was an endive salad with avocado and parmesan to start, then pinwheel braised boneless short ribs with Cipriani sauce, served with potato dauphinoise and tricolor baby carrots, and zabaglione cake for dessert.
This was a really fun night, a sumptuous way to end several months of reading non-stop on my couch. The Cipriani was an impressive venue. I'd love to go back one day for another fancy party.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - B T.Astoria, Queens, NY0352762May 11, 2024
Experience likely depends on the event you attend here, but the food was surprisingly delicious for the scale of the event. Service was also quite attentive, with a clear delineation of head servers and support servers, which made things run smoothly. Bar service was less friendly, which again likely depends on the event and may be different night to night.

I attended a weeding at the Cipriani wall street which was visually amazing. i think this is one of the best venues that you can get in New york. Most would say the venue is beautiful with its architecture and the location is convenient. The great staff was very professional and was on schedule for the whole wedding. The food was also very delicious and had a wide Varity of foods to catered to vegetarians and the fellow meat eaters. The service was truly extraordinary, and guests commented afterwards how amazed they were by the wait staff and attentive service. The wedding was a fairytale in part because of the incredible and unique lighting; which changed throughout the night. It was breathtaking. The food at cocktail hour was amazing. Some notable items included Seafood, sushi, pasta, and of course the famous bellini drink. The main courses were also fantastic such as the filet mignon and wild salmon. This would be great place for any extravagate party assuming you ok with the high price tag.

I went to Cipriani Wall Street for a gala event recently (no pics since this was a private event). The Wall Street location looks just like the midtown east location down to the same same blue lighting and chandeliers. The space definitely has a wow factor. It was elegant and high end. When I arrived, I left my coat with coat check. This was a Seated dinner but they had lots of staff passing around hors d' oeuvres when I arrived. The Seated dinner was a filet mignon with potato and grilled veggies along with a green salad. They also had a fish and vegetarian option. They food was tastefully presented and the portion of Meat was huge. Taste wise it was OK, nothing mind blowing. Overall, the space is great for an event and I'm glad to have been invited.

The service/staff/bar team are the gems of this place. They are so attentive, kind, and prompt. It was a nice compliment to the NYSCI event I attended.
It's a beautiful venue with towering ceilings and massive pillars. Very grand indeed. It's nice they offer vegan options too! A nice mushroom vegan lasagna and a fruit platter for dessert.
One day I want to celebrate something in such a grand venue. A girl can dream right :)Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 1 - Jun 3, 2023
Didn't come here for the food, came for a private event downstairs, but had a wonderful time.
The staff/servers were great. The drinks and appetizers were on point.
The building itself is beautiful in decor and architecture.
Next time I will have to dine in.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Abby J.New York, NY2705991Sep 15, 2022
Came here for an award reception and was blown away by the ambiance. The details are perfection. The staff was highly attentive.
Cocktail hour was the best part of the night. For food there was chicken, rice balls, scallops and more. My favorite drink was the peach Bellini.
The food for dinner was only okay. The steak option was significantly better than the fish.
Overall everything was amazing except the dinner food. Would love to attend an event here again.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Rosario S. C.Naples, FL1342707May 17, 2023
Cipriani's Wall Street is a beautiful New York Landmark. Attended an event and the place was stunning from the exquisite design to the soaring ceilings. The food and service was perfect.

My fiancè and I recently moved into the neighborhood and were intrigued when we walked by and saw people eating on the balcony, so we made reservations. They don't guarantee balcony reservations, but I verbally requested it over the phone and we were given a balcony table.
The service here is very good - very old school upscale Italian. Someone is always nearby to make sure your water is full and you're given a new tablecloth before the dessert course. It was nice to have that level of service for an evening. My partner and I were both happy with our dishes, though they're probably not the kind of thing I'll remember and rave about years down the road. I got a sort of rice pilaf with seafood and my partner got scallops. We shared a cappuccino (which was served a little closer to room temperature than it should have been...) and a slice of chocolate cake for dessert. The chocolate cake was very good.
Overall, it was a positive dining experience and they do a good job.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
