This was our first time staying in a B&B and what an amazing experience
My husband, son, and I came to Salem after a long flight and 1 hour drive. We were scoping out the area to buy our first home and visit my husband's best friend. I decided to treat us to a bed and breakfast. After looking for a couple hours online, I found the Century House.
Jean was/is so sweet and kind, I am so happy to have gotten the opportunity to support the business. Jean was able to recommend a realtor to us. She is very knowledgeable about the Salem area and makes the best food. We got FRESH bing cherries and other fruits. As a resident of Hawaii, I so miss having fresh fruit.
Our room was beautiful, ample space for 3 people. It felt like home. It was great.
The breakfast was to die for. First morning was a parfait, sausages, and blueberry pancakes. Wow. Wow. Wow. To which I totally forgot to tell her that I don't eat red meat/pork. So the next morning she made salmon omelettes with cream cheese and a fruit crisp. I mentioned that a diner in Monmouth had the best crisps but they were out so we weren't able to get it. So she took it and decided to make one (totally warmed my heart). Both breakfasts were amazing. She sat with us both mornings and chatted, she's such a lovely person.
When we move next June. I fully plan on staying at the Century House for a couple of nights again.

Miss Jean was such a great host...very accommodating. I got in a later in the evening and she helped me to find a local restaurant to grab dinner. She also prepared an amazing breakfast in the morning which I was so impressed, I had to take pics :) All and all, great experience and I highly recommend snagging a room here if you're going to be in the area.

Lovely night's stay, wish I had more time to lounge around and enjoy the deck and back yard. Comfy and clean. Highlight was the delicious breakfast! Host (Jean) asked if I had any special food needs; I said no, I'm quite flexible - then added as an afterthought that I like to eat healthy. Breakfast was... Truly a treat. Prettily arranges fresh fruit, yogurt, a scone - good stuff. THEN comes the omelette - not too big, which I appreciated - filled with absolutely fresh spinach and mushrooms, topped with a dusting of Parmesan, accompanied by sliced yams gently cooked with cocoanut oil. Healthy and decadent at the same time. Good coffee and apple cider to wash it down. Ate every bite.
So why only four stars? Yelpers tend to be pretty loose with five stars but I reserve that for the very few places. Neighborhood was nothing special; a few sugar ants in the sink area in the morning (which Jean was clearly sorry to hear, jumping into action on that.) so it's not ShangriLa - but a really good place, kind host, I felt really well taken care of here!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - A C.Sacramento, CA030May 13, 2018
Our stay at Century House was really pleasant. Owner, Jean, is the consummate host; she made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. Our room (the Pine) was spacious, immaculate, and had everything we needed to get a good rest. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. If we are in Salem again, we will definitely stay at Century House!

My fiancee and I stayed with Jean over the Christmas Holidays and she was a fantastic host. The house was extremely clean and inviting and she even went out of her way to make our favorite desserts. What more can we say? It was a way to our hearts! She also cooked up a mean breakfast that was just the right portion and very delicious. She is pet and bike friendly and just a very pleasant person to be around. We will definitely be going back.

I am a big fan of B&B's when travelling for business - it is much quieter than a busy chain hotel and much more personable.
I stayed at Jean's house twice now, and would do it again in a heart beat! She is an extremely attentive hostess - initially I felt almost awkward being spoiled too much. She was extremely accommodating, getting up to serve breakfast at an early hour, making sure I get my favorite organic Oregonian carrots every time! :)
The Pine room with a private entrance and its own shower is the best - too bad, it was not available on my second stay.
I think Jean's personality makes the Century House experience so unique, so far it is the best B&B I have stayed at in the US.
Thank you, Jean!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael F.Irvine, CA216Jul 29, 2016
My wife and I really enjoyed our recent stay at Century House. Jean was a very gracious and accommodating hostess and always made us feel at home. The breakfasts were wonderful, and the rooms inviting and clean. We will definitely return to Century House if visiting Salem in the future.
