Central Bank

Opened a savings account, transferred in $70. I drive for Uber, so when snowy weather came and I couldn't drive, they would not let me access any of that money because of an arbitrary holding period. It had been in there for 4 days. The money had been transferred from another bank and had completely left the account, but they just decided the answer was no because they prefer a week.

I wish it were the first problem I had with them. It took 3 weeks for them to be unable to open a business account when I subsequently opened one easily at another bank. The previous business account I had with them had to be closed because a representative forgot to ask for a signature, then I didn't have time to make it back to the bank to handle it.

None of my cards with them ever worked reliably with Apple Pay. Some vendors yes, some no. All the cards from my new bank work everywhere with Apple Pay. Central Bank cards require a swipe/insertion at machines because they don't have tap-pay technology. My new bank has cards with tap-pay.

When you call in for assistance, they of course verify your information. With half of my cards the verification information did not work. It turns out they verification can be through typing in an account number OR your card number, but not either one. You had to know which the verification was looking for... somehow. So you never know which one will work. They were never able to fix that.

So after all this, when Central Bank chooses to release my funds for its arbitrary reasons, I'll probably move this brand-new account elsewhere. But I hope they enjoyed the possession of my $70 for precisely one week.

If I could give it less than one stars, I would. My husband was trying to open a business bank account and the teller made unsavory, bordering racist assumptions about my husband's business. I've been looking for a bank for my personal account as I had an account with a bank in a different county. Definitely won't be opening here or any other Central Bank. Disgusting. I'm from California, maybe I'm just not used to such differential treatment. Sad.

Central Bank has provided me with the best bank experience I have ever had. The staff is very professional and friendly at every level and branch, of which there are several. This also makes for a very convenient banking experience.
