A fave with the locals. The food is only okay. I think people come here to drink. There are often dogs and children here. They have board games and coloring books available.

Love this place. Pretty iconic. We have walked by here so many times. After seeing Santa at Riverside Park, we were walking back to Cross St Market. We stopped to pet a little 12 week old Boxer. When we looked up & saw Larry's, we said let's do it.
Sat outside. 55 degrees on Dec 17 around 7 pm. Wow!
Bologna & egg grilled cheese and Baja Fish Tacos!
Owners came out a couple times to check on us. Cool neighborhood place as everybody seemed to know each other.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 20, 2021Updated review
Larry's is an institution. It is the quintessence of a neighborhood bar. It contributes to a wonderful sense of community, and both the owners and patrons are wonderful. I have met so many of my neighbors simply by sitting outside with my dog!
The draft selection is solid and features some wonderful breweries, and while Covid has scaled down the food menu everything I have tried has been wonderful. Not fancy, no frills, just genuine warmth and hospitality.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 25, 2017Previous reviewSolid local bar. The stand out menu item would be the crab cakes for sure. Beer selection is decent, service is always at least decent, sometimes exceptional. You can't go wrong if you want a low key place to grab a few drinks and relax.
It won't blow you away as the coolest bar you've been to, but it doesn't need to either. - Brandon N.Jefferson, MD2565446Apr 14, 2020
Cap. Larry's is a neighborhood favorite with some awesome signature dishes. Having eaten almost everything on the menu I can wholeheartedly recommend several notable items. Firstly for aps: the buffalo wings stand tall against any out there, also the HoJo style clam strips and Cheese curds are fried delights. For entrees the Fish Sammy (mahi with fresh veg on wheat) can hardly be beat and is one of my favorites but lately I've been addicted to the Devin Burger ( cheese, bacon, avocado, fried egg, special sauce). However both of these and most other prepared foods on earth pale in comparison to Larry's totally legit Crab Cakes. They are just ridiculously perfect. If you are looking for the quintessential MD crab cake, this is it.
Owned and operated by one of the friendliest brother / sister teams on earth, you can feed good supporting this family friendly divey neighborhood anchor spot.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 21, 2020
Being conveniently located next to the harbor, I came here with a friend for dinner pretty late on a weekend. I wasn't super hungry so I just got the appetizer mac and cheese, which comes topped with chili, pico, avocado, and sour cream. I asked for no sour cream, but when my dish came, it had sour cream on it. I told the waitress and she offered to get me a new one, but since I really hate wasting food, I just scooped all the sour cream off. The mac and cheese was alright, as it was lukewarm and the cheese didn't have much flavor. The chili was spread on top, and there were about four tiny pieces of tomato and two tiny slices of avocado. It was a lot of noodles though. Because my order was incorrect, my bill came out to be $5.83 post-tax (although normally it's $8 pre-tax), which I appreciated!

My husband and I were stuck in Baltimore for a bit longer than intended due to a flight delay. On a rainy Sunday afternoon, our options were limited, but I really wanted some good crab cakes. The typical touristy places were open, so we decided to veer off course and I'm glad we did.
The place is "dive-y" in looks, but the beer selection and food are first class. We started out with pretzel bites- warm and gooey, which is what I was looking for coming out of the cold rain. My husband got the fish and chips and I got the crab cake platter (which he also ate some of, because the cakes are huge.)
I've been quite a few places on the east coast and have had my share of crab cakes and wow- I didn't think I would find my favorite in a bar in south Baltimore. The seasoning was perfect, it was moist, melt-in-your mouth good. The tartar was great. And the Caesar and tots to boot weren't bad at all either. My husband enjoyed the fish and chips, standard fare, nothing too special, but did rave about the fries.
It's a straight shot to BWI from the bar, so if we're in the area again, we'll make our way out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sabrina R.Baltimore, MD021Oct 30, 2019
I first came here on biz and was immediately drawn to the open door of Captain Larry's and the incredibly welcoming and laid back vibes from the team (family owned biz y'all) and the peeps at the bar.
Guinness on tap and Natty Boh's to go make it the perfect spot to have some eats and pint or three.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica P.New York, NY126143911Apr 26, 2019
Wow! Great experience at Captain Larry's! I have passed this place for year and never stopped in. I think the cash only thing was holding me back, but now they take Credit Cards and I have been a few times! So glad I stopped in! The fish and chips are fantastic and the beers were cold! The family atmosphere combined with the neighborhood bar made this place really unique. I highly recommend!

Greasy and cheesy food I guess it depends on my mood sometimes that's good sometimes that's bad. If I want to treat myself to something cheesy mac & cheese or grilled cheese sandwich that I know was going to be really good then I'll go here. That being said I always regret it after it always makes me feel like crap. It's a fun spot to go to right on the main drag right in federal hill.
