Is it usually busy Saturday mornings for breakfast?

      A:

It might be-- better to make a reservation online to guarantee you can get seated without standing in the long line to enter the museum itself

I wish restaurants wouldn't behave this way. I stopped in for a pastry and a cold drink. I ordered both. In addition, I asked for a cup of hot water because I like sipping hot water. When the check came, I'd been charged for the hot water. I asked the waitress about it, and she was super apologetic and obviously worried about her tip. You could tell that this had happened before and that she'd been punished for the restaurant's policy.

I paid the bill, obviously, and also gave her a big tip. But I did speak to the manager, I hope not rudely but to say that I'd enjoyed the food and the ambiance, that the menu was intriguing and I was considering returning, but that I thought a charge for hot water was unwelcoming. The manager basically scolded me for ordering hot water instead of a coffee drink and said that after many, many bad experiences they had been forced to add this charge.

I just can't imagine how many bad experiences they've had in an expensive neighborhood with people purposely ordering hot water in order to avoid paying for fancy coffee drinks. I think it's much more likely that some people, like me, just prefer hot water sometimes. Certainly the additional charge can't compensate for the loss of customer good will.

But the thing that bothers me the most, and made me post this review, is that it is absolutely clear that the people who pay most highly for this policy are the servers.

Came here on a recommendation from a friend, we originally planned to have breakfast here but walked in a couple minutes past 11am. We grabbed a matcha and hot chocolate that my girlfriend enjoyed very much!

The service was great and food was excellent!

Next time I am in the upper east side I will stop in for drink & dessert.

My overall experience here was very disappointing. When you walk in you have to go through security and the workers were quite rude.

We had to wait 30 minutes to get seated and once we finally did a waiter didnt help us for at least 15 minutes. The waiter was quite rude and impatient as well.

Once our drinks arrived it was very disappointing. If im paying $15 for a coffee id hope itd be more than just melted coffee ice cream.

The food was terrible. The portions were tiny and it wasnt hot when it arrived.

We decided to not give up hope and ordered some desserts however these were the most disappointing. They tasted plain and frozen

Café Sabarsky is unique in the sense that the food is authentically Austrian and for the decor inside and out. It's similar to cafés you would go to in Vienna.

The interior is very small, thus the very long lines. If you are not here early for breakfast, expect hours long lines.

Security is unnecessarily intense, airport style intense where they make you throw water bottles. Seems a bit overkill but they are friendly.

Overall, good to try once but I don't think it's worth waiting in line for hours and it's not necessaily worth the cost either. The prices are a bit ridiculous for certain things like latte - expect $9 for a very small latte.

If you must try, I recommend a dinner reservation after 5pm. You'll have access to all desserts and similar items but not breakfast items. But no wait and similar cost

Amazing food, impeccable service, I really can't say enough about this restaurant. We ordered the spring pea soup, goulash with spaetzle, bratwurst, and apfelstruedel with schlag. Blood orange juice cocktail and elderberry spritzer to drink. Wait staff was helpful in making decisions, very attentive, and very old school, traditional service. Excellent experience and well worth the reservation and wait. If you want a more upscale experience in a "museum restaurant", definitely make a reservation and bring your appetite for Tyrolean fare.

I went with a friend who had been before and when she went there was a line all the way outside. Luckily we only had to wait in line inside, and it was maybe 15 minutes on a Sunday around 3:30 pm. We were going for dessert, but some of the savory plates around us looked good as well. We saw the beet salad and the sausages with spaetleze that looked tempting! My friend had previously has the quark cheesecake and recommended it, but we chose to try new things. The hazelnut and chocolate cake was very rich and heavy, while the cherry and chocolate cake was fluffy and light, yet also decadent.

The interior was very a very cute cafe! If you're in the area wanting a special treat and don't mind waiting, it's a nice stop.

It is a great space to enjoy amazing some amazing tea. The service was quick and attentive. Their main breakfast was large, so my partner and I split it. They were accommodating.

Having a wonderfully flavor 1900 Vienna tea on a freezing day in NY is a perfect way to start a day of exploring museums

My husband and I came for breakfast on a weekend around 10am and we were seated promptly. We got Viennese coffee - espresso with whipped cream which was delicious and a fresh coffee with hot cream. We ordered the Bavarian ham and eggs as well as roasted potatoes, pickles and cheese with a eggs on top. We loved both and the waitress recommended the roasted potatoes in particular. Our meal came with a bread basket too which was a nice surprise!

If you're wanting a quiet and chic cafe ambience, this is the place to go! Reasonable prices for breakfast too.
