Bullwinkles

Came here visiting Yellowstone and Island Park during Xmas break. Was craving something other than beef and Montana is known for Bison and Elk meat. Went ahead and took a leap of faith and ordered the Elk steak, the picture below.

The Elk steak tasted better than most beef steaks. Had less marbling, but had so much flavor, perfectly cooked medium rare. I would absolutely try elk again and may order steaks to be sent to my home.

Service was also outstanding. Loved our server who was friendly with the entire family, explained the menu well, and made the experience great. Also recommend the bison short rib and poutine.

Sister had eaten here several times over the past few years and was a place we needed to try. Owner was a chef from east coast and had stepped up the menu. Menu was similar to her last visit only the specials were canceled. Also turned out to be under new ownership.
Ordered broasted fried chicken. Was overcooked, overly seasoned and a very thick crust. Huckleberry Lemonade was good. Flavorful and not overly sweet.
Another in group ordered the duck. Was extremely greasy and over cooked.
Burger ordered was cooked well done instead of medium and bland.
Another order the elk ravioli. The only positive of our meal.
Cheesecake recipe was different than pictures. Essentially regular cheesecake with drizzle on top.
Service acted like it was a privilege for us to be there rather than the small town feel usually accustomed to.
Will be looking at other dining options next time visiting West Yellowstone.

Our group thoroughly enjoyed our first visit here. The restaurant has a fairly typical MT vibe, however; they have one unique feature...a model train that rides around the place near the ceiling. Who doesn't like that? Myself and another in our group had the trout almondine with veggies and couscous. I liked the flash fried preparation. It did make the fish a bit dry on the outside, but still moist enough on the inside. Also, their tartar sauce amped up the flavor. The broccoli was steamed crisp, and the couscous was delightful. It was a bit different side dish. I tried my wife's pork ribs, which were delecious. And my friend who had the bison/beef mixed meatloaf said it was the best meatloaf he ever had. He talked about it for three days. Service was very good too. Our server gave us some advice on things to see, and showed us on her phone.

One of our long time favorites in west Yellowstone. However, this last visit was well below what we expected. My wife ordered the trout and I ordered the 8oz filet. I like my steak medium rare and that is how I ordered it. It came out medium well. Not only was it over cooked but it was very tough. Not what I expected. My wife's fish was very dry and over cooked as well. So we will put this on the bottom of our list for now and won't be returning anytime soon. The one thing you can count on here is that for a couple, you are not getting out the door for under $100 without any alcohol included. One of the most over priced restaurants for the portion size in west.

Cute little Spot right in the heart of town. Friendly Bartenders and great slot games to play. I took the food back to where I was staying and the best thing on the menu is the Bison. 1st time trying it and it did not disappoint!

I hate to give low stars but service was not stellar and could not award higher.

Came here with a coworker as it was suggested by the hotel and it was down the block. Walked in to a few people ahead of us, the hostess was like a chicken with her head cut off. She would walk up to the counter look at a list then walk away. She did this about 5 times and never once asked us how many people were in our party. Then another party of about 4 came in 5 mins after us. So while standing there and never acknowledged, I walked up and put my own name on the list and lady behind me made a throat clearing sound of disgust because she thought she was going to be seated before is. Took the hostess about another 5 mins before we got seated. Since it took so long we already knew what we wanted.

I got the Elk raviolis. The portion was huge, could have shared. When I say they are stuffed, that is an over statement. They did have a lot of filling in them and that was great. The sauce was nice and creamy but not to thick. Served with a loaf of sourdough bread. Love me some sourdough.

It was busy and quite noisy.

The hospitality is off the chain. The two employees running the bar and restaurant were attentive to everyone and worked great as a team. We came here twice while we were in town because the meat loaf is that good. Prices are just right, and the staff are rockstars.

The atmosphere is primarily a bar, so do keep this in mind if you are passing through. Music is a little louder but it's fun. Second night it wasn't as loud.

The food is great! The meatloaf is a must. I recommend the gravy of the side just in case. But the flavor is fantastic. This is a lean beef and bison mixture with balance herb and pepper seasoning, with a little bit of minced veg mixed in. Solid solid dish!

The bison short ribs are melt in your mouth good. The meat falls right off the bone. There really no other way a short rib should be.
Other great dishes include the roast duck that I really had my eye on, but it so popular they didn't have the ingredients in house. The elk ravioli was another stand out dish on the menu.
The food service was timely and the food was perfect temperature.

Kitchen staff didn't miss a beat, even at peak hours. Everything remained under control.

Bullwinkles is a a great place to stop in town with great people and service. And if you're feeling real lucky grab some popcorn and give the slot machines a try.

Little to no wait, great service from the staff. I ordered The bison ravioli and it was great. I can't tell difference of bison meat from cow meat but it's still good. Ambiance is like a small town restaurant with western vibes. Huckleberry lemonade was good but nothing special. The prices are a bit expensive but I'd go back again if back in West Yellowstone

The food was excellent. I had a cheeseburger and my husband had the trout. We also had the mushroom bruschetta as an appetizer. The service was very good too.

We had an awesome experience at Bullwinkles. We had a little bit of a wait to get a table, but it was worth it. After spending several days in JH with food that was a bit too eclectic for our tastes. Bulwinkles was just what we needed.

Trent was our waiter the first night and despite his multiple table section, he was funny, efficient and the best waiter we have had on this trip. When I complimented his service, he said he couldn't do it without the kitchen, giving all the credit to the kitchen.

The bar was quick with our drinks and the kitchen was fast with our food. We enjoyed it so much, we went back a second time.
