Tyber Bierhaus is a German inspired Beer House serving hearty German Oktoberfest cuisine as well as traditional American favorites. In addition it serves Belgian and Czech beers with its American counterparts in half liter and full liter formats. The cuisine at Tyber Bierhaus consists of German Oktoberfest favorites such as Sauerbraten, schnitzel, various sausages and pickled vegetables, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, rye bread sticks, pierogies, goulash, and home baked bread to name a few. In addition it includes a traditional American menu consisting of burger, house smoked pastrami, chicken and pasta dishes. We have installed a 20 tap system that will be keep the beer cold and flowing. We also offer great wine selection as well as full bar service. As the name implies Beer will be our specialty and our main focal point. We feel that our warm and hospitable concept provides a welcoming and inviting environment that will quickly become a Maryland favorite.

So this place was like two mins from where I worked and I didn't come in until my last day. If I knew their sausages were tender and flavorful, which you could pair with their solid beer choices, I probably would have checked it out earlier.
First, it's way bigger and cozier inside then what I would've guessed. Felt like a cool beer hall with their ambient lighting.
Second, their HH food menu ain't too shabby. Got myself the sausage platter with a 1L of Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse (comparable to Blue Moon). The sausages I ordered were the Bratwurst and Baurenwurst. It came with roasted potatoes and red cabbage. What a delight to eat! Service was also pretty good.
Third, it was raining pretty hard when I was leaving and had to wait for my friend to get the car. Unfortunately, it didn't stop some people from stealing the patio umbrella and booking it. 7 people under a massive umbrella looked pretty funny and I hope they returned it.
It was an enjoyable time here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 1, 2018
Hubby was on the hunt for some really good schnitzel in the area. Okay, any schnitzel in the area. There really are not that many German places in MoCo. Why is that?
Anyway, we came on a Friday night and the Olympics was on the big screens and various groups doing happy hour. The hostess asked where would we like to sit and I noticed a section in the back with long benches much like church pews and long tables. It felt a little weird with just the two of us in the back with all these long tables but it definitely was quieter than the front. We started with the Steigler Radler. Loved it for someone like me who don't normally like beer. Maybe it was the grapefruit flavor of the radler? He ordered the schnitzel platter with red cabbage and roasted red potatoes. I ordered the St. Arnold's Mussels with fries. We both liked the schnitzel! The red cabbage was pickled which was something I didn't expect. I would have preferred it not pickled, but no worries. I was quite disappointed with my order of the mussels. They were small, much like clams. I got four pieces of bread to dip in the broth and it was fine. Not sure if my dish should have smelled like I was eating on a dock of a fish market but it had a certain seafood odor that wasn't particularly pleasant.
Service was friendly. But there was a moment in which the manager or owner pulled a server aside and came to the back where we were sitting and he was discussing the server's performance and how a situation should have been handled. We surmised there probably was not a private area to have such a private conversation so we pretended we didn't hear a word.
We'd love to come back and the long tables could definitely hold perhaps a group of 8. So sit at the bar or come with friends.

UPDATED REVIEW
Well, we did come back for my husband's birthday in March. Our second visit was terribly disappointing. It's usually after a disappointing first visit that a diner gives an establishment a second chance but definitely the reverse here. Since it was a Sunday afternoon, our large group of 11 was the main customers with the occasional one or two patrons at the bar. If I had known that, I wouldn't have made a reservation but I did knowing we had 11 coming. Service was extremely lacking. Only one cook and one waitress. After six of us had arrived, the waitress told us to order now so the one cook would not be overwhelmed because we didn't make a reservation. Uh, yes, I did. So okay, we placed our order. Our remaining five friends arrived and the meal was fine. I do wish the waitress came to check on us at least once because we kept having to ask for more drinks. A group of 11 diners in an entire restaurant wasn't that many people for one person (and there was a bartender at the bar the entire time there as well). So here's the BIG PROBLEM. When our check arrived, we were billed for 14 entrees. Of course we disputed the check because 11 people ordered 11 entrees. Instead of apologizing for the mistake and correcting the check immediately, the waitress insisted we ordered 14 entrees. When asked who ordered the extra entrees she could not answer. Surely if I was a waitress and several people ordered extra entrees, I would have remembered. She merely said she brought out everything that was prepared by the cook based on the orders that she put in. After some discussion with the bartender, she brought us another check which was still incorrect. Again, calmly trying to tell her that 11 people ordered 11 entrees, the check was finally corrected. For our friends, this was there first and probably last time. Oh, and before I forget, the apple pie was the absolutely worst tasting thing ever. Don't order it.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 6, 2016
I will start by saying that I am bias to Tyber as a friend from Jr HS is the owner so there is that.
Was in town MoCo from Raleigh and met up with some old friends at Tyber in Bethesda. The place has a good atmosphere, no band or live music, but TV's throughout that had sports on. I will say if you put sports on TV and have beer that I am pretty happy.
Not sure what type of beer I even tried, but it was darker then I typically drink but still I enjoyed the taste. I will say this, usually I do not get on tap beer because places just don't take the time to clean their lines, but I could tell from the taste of the two I had that was not the case here.
Had some apps and then the salmon dinner. It was cooked perfectly, and being of German Heritage I had to get sauerkraut as my side and again it was made just right.
I would have tried the sausage platter but I was there on a Friday during lent so I had to go with fish, but I was not disappointed.
Tyber had European seating in some areas, which gives it a great feeling.
Fat boy rating I will be back again, not because a friend owns it, but because the beer and food is good and the atmosphere is what a place should have.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kani B.Germantown, MD67147Sep 29, 2017
After a long day at a conference/ training we needed a place to sit out rush hour traffic and we stumbled upon this restaurant. Anyway it was pretty crowded but the hostess was able to get us something outside and we were blessed with the most fabulous server, Angeles!
She made sure the food and drinks arrived on time and suggested a really great special which of course we took up and tried. Guess what? It hit the spot
If you are in Bethesda and want something different and tasty! Try Tyber and ask for AngelesHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 17, 2016
So far it's the best German restaurant that I have been at in the DC area! Featuring fine German food, with some good vegetarian options, in a German style beer hall. Their Brunch is delicious as I've tried their German breakfast. their dinner is delicious as I enjoyed their sausage platter with some bratwurst and kielbasa. The beverages are outstanding, the service is good, and the fun is never ending!

Had good beers, good pretzel, good donor kebab, and good conversation. The bartender that was serving us was also friendly. Up to about 50 minutes into our stay there, the yelp score would have been 5 stars.
When a new bartender (bald, middle-aged) guy joined the bar area to cover other patrons, that's what made me knock off a few stars. That new bartender was pouring a mug of beer from the overhead tap and somehow the mug shattered. Beer splashed over me and my wife's face and shirts. I understand accidents happen but the lack of caring from that bartender was what pissed us off. He just started laughing when it happened and was more concerned about his sleeve getting wet rather than giving us any napkins or asking or checking to see if any glass pieces fell into our beer or food. My wife had to yell at him to give us napkins since he apparently didn't notice us profusively wiping off beer with our forearms (we were sitting almost in front of him). That bartender just lacked customer service common sense. We're very fortuneate that no glass pieced flew into our eyes.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 329416876Jan 10, 2015
One good thing. Saturday night beer special was 14$ (I think) for a boot of German beer. Whatever price it is, it was the same price as a small German beer. I forget if it was a Saturday night happy hour or an all day event, but that's a great deal.
Now for the food. We ordered wings for app. I got the chicken sandwich as a meal. Well, the chicken sandwich barely had chicken in it. It was so upsetting. The waiter suggested this sandwich over whichever other one I wanted. It looks like a piece of chicken fell out. One side literally had one slice of chicken. For the price, it should have had a whole juicy chicken breast.
Never coming here again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Three and a half stars. Well, bollocks. I always said I wouldn't want to live near Biergarten Haus or St Arnold's because I'd sport a beer belly in no time, and look at us now. My new after-work watering hole with beers the size of premie infants is right by Bethesda Metro. Metered and garage parking within walking distance. Think Mussel Bar but with a more laid back and communal feel. Biggest downside is no outdoor seating. Three of my favorite mussel pot flavors from St A's, plus hearty Euro-inspired bar food with conservative brunch and dessert menus.
From least- to most-favored:
- BBQ chicken wings: conservatively sized wings, cooked through. These chickens were definitely not on 'roids. Tossed in one of three sauces of your choice (habanero or buffalo being alternatives) after cooking, served with two carrot sticks and two celery sticks, plus a tub of what I assumed to be bleu dip.
- Pierogies: delicately fried exterior containing a literal mash-up of standard pierogi flavors, and a tub of chilled sour cream garnished with green onions. I almost disliked them for the same textural aversion I have to crab rangoon, but I kinda respect the nontraditional approach to comfort food.
- Latkes: potato pancakes were the teensiest bit greasier than expected, but not at all too heavy. After doctoring with provided applesauce and chilled sour cream with scallions, I cleaned the plate happily.
- Chicken sandwich: I'll be honest, surpassed low expectations. It's not just the delicious signature St A frites, perfectly crisped with sides of ketchup or awesome in-house aioli. The lettuce and tomato were fresh, and enough of the caramelized shallots and tomato weren't runaways from the moist and flavorful chicken breast. Bread is plenty thick enough to transport these ingredients to your drooling mouth, with the lightest spread of duck fat rosemary mayo. Generous portioning!
Service was great for an easy-going opening night. Staff members were very friendly, water refills were kept up, and the only hiccups we saw were very mild bar/kitchen delays and an order of rye bread sticks that shouldn't have been sent to our table (customers don't really know our table number). Any well-meaning attempts to prematurely clear a plate retreated apologetically in the face of my prison inmate-style of defensive dining. Our server Bob C was particularly charming and helpful throughout the night. We had napkins, were reasonably told in advance what on the menu wasn't available, and got recommendations without trouble. Future hit list: mussels, roasted beets soup, pastrami/reuben sandwiches; drug opera, red velvet pancakes, eggs in the middle.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 11Oh no 0 - Mar 19, 2014
Here you go Bethesda! Served up by long time Montgomery County Resident Mark Moore and company - your very own little "Bier" garten/haus/ (insert other german word "Guttentag"?) .
A while ago Cesco Oesteria tried to advertise that they now had a BeerGarten, but I got a lot of feedback that this turned out to mean that Cesco was now serving DC Brau on their patio. Not so impressive.
This place actually has 20+ Belgium Beers, communal tables, and a relaxing friendly atmosphere. Now, they did just open today, so not every single beer and menu item was available - but there was surely enough to satisfy even the most critical "Bier" drinker.
I got a beer with a 16 word name... cause I'm difficult. Let me try and go for this.. a Praga Pills Czech Bohemian Pilsner. It was light and refreshing, just like I asked for from our waiter Bob C. BTW - Shout out to Bob C who was totally nice, helpful, and there when you needed him.
Started out with three Apps.
1. Potato Pancakes ( or I call them Latkes #Heritage): 3 delicious pancakes served up with apple sauce and sour cream. They definitely get a Star (Of David) for serving up both.
2. Pierogies: Surprise! These are fried. But not with a very thick crust. Interesting adaptation- still soft inside. Filling was tasty and all... but I'd probably rather have the traditional preparation on them.
3. Wings: Wasn't a huge fan of these (tasted a little "Appe-teaser"-ish). Maybe pre-frozen/ pre cooked? This is the only thing I wouldn't come back to.
Then we decided to share the Chicken Sandwich.
This just upped the star rating by at least one star. TENDER, I'm talking JUICY, I'm talkin WELL COOKED, I'm talkin COULD BE THE BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH IN BETHESDA, I'm talkin YEAHHHHH.....
This sandwich was delicious. Everything: the chicken was great, well seasoned, and coated in herbs. They had caramelized onions on it ( nice addition) and a duck fat rosemary mayo. The bun was perfect and the veg on it was fresh. Good job on this! Kudos chef!
Not too mention the fries!
ORDER THE FRIES
DELICIOUS - well seasoned and the aioli that they come with I could sleep in. Make a little home in that B.
Overall a great meal. Manager/owner came over and chatted with us. Super friendly!
I'll be back soon.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0
