Not what it used to be. Went in to scope out venue for my band. Service was non-existent. It's turned into a homeless shelter. Sad.

Got ambushed with a drink minimum that none of the bartenders informed me about. Also apparently the POS isn't linked between the upstairs and downstairs so if you order on both floors, you have to pay the minimum twice. A little heads up would have been cool.
Seems like a pretty interesting place to see new acts though. Wish it was a tad cleaner. Drinks were pretty cheap though.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brandi T.Lakewood, OH36272634Aug 8, 2018
Super cheap. Thus is a great little bar. super chill. Really nice bartender. It's old and a dumpy dive bar but its clean and comfortable.

Best place in town for music. Whether it's Akron Punk Night every Tuesday or any of the live punk, ska, metal, bluegrass, rockabilly or other performers, you'll most likely be listening to something more real than some of the other options.
Shows range from affordable to free in price. Beer selection ranges from cheap pitchers to premium micros and imports. The staff are entertaining and genuine.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mike B.Cleveland, OH19254May 22, 2008First to Review
This place is a serious dive bar, but if it wasn't, it just wouldn't be right. The food and drinks are dirt cheap and everything else is just dirty. Like seriously, the bathrooms are legendary for being torn the hell up.
I'm not sure if they are still running 75 cent beers and dollar appetizers on Thursdays, but needless to say that rocked.
The best thing about this place though is their jukebox, which is rivaled only by Joe's Bar in Canton.
A true institution in Highland Square.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Christopher L.Akron, OH37Feb 29, 2012
The crowd here can best be described as Cheers meets the Star Wars cantina.
Respectable dive bar.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Mark M.Las Vegas, NV09Nov 29, 2011
I used to come here a lot when I was living in Akron. As the other reviews have stated, it is the quintessential dive bar. In fact, it could possibly be the most perfect dive bar in Northeast Ohio (it's easily the best dive bar I have ever seen in all of my travels across the country and the world). The beer was cheap ($1 Amber Bocks drafts at the time), the jukebox had all the right albums, and the state of the bathrooms made pissing in your pants sound like an attractive option.
But sitting in there and nursing a beer, you would get to see a colorful cross-section of Highland Square, and Akron in general, blowing through the doors: Students from the university, tattooed artists and hipsters from the Square, office workers from the brownstones up the street, and people who just enjoyed drinking in a dive bar. It was a beautiful place to hang out on a Friday night after work, with the Pixies, Elvis Costello, and the Clash booming over the speakers.
I give this place 5 stars because for what it is, it's the best, but anyone looking for fancy cocktails and upscale gastropub-style food in a clean environment should be forewarned...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Jan 2, 2015
I was a late hours/after hours hanger at Annabell's in the early 80's, the home of $2 beers on tap and a refuge for all of us who had to work the late shift. It's gratifying to see it's still there and still a bit weird and still working on providing a refuge for us fiftysomething punkers as well as the younger crowd. To say it hasn't changed may be incorrect, but I can't tell. It's as wonderful as ever. If you want hygiene, go to $)U#@)@ing Applebee's. Long live Annabell's.

Order PBR. This place goes well with PBR- cheap and good. Annabell's has a small (at least on tap) but okay beer selection. Doesn't matter though because unless it's Christmastime you should probably be drinking PBR.
Place is super dirty, probably hasn't been thoroughly cleaned since my mom used to hang out there about 30 years ago. Yep, it's been around that long.
Definitely my favorite place in Highland Square. Music all the time in the basement and plenty of tables/bar space for hanging out upstairs. Perfect dive bar.
I can proudly say I was present and participating the first time Voguing happened at Annabell's, while we played Lady Gaga and Madonna songs on the Jukebox.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
