I went here a while back with friends and though my food was "ok" I did enjoy the ambiance and dessert wasn't half bad. I may give it another go in the future.

Sorry but this is another place I just do not see the point in EVER going to again. A gf suggested we go for some "authentic mexican food" so I was like, ok. Thinking we are off to the Mission district for a real treat, as we near it I am like "where are you taking me" as El Toro Taqueria comes into view. I soon realize I am about to eat some crappy commercialized food.

She 1st said she wanted a "salad" which when I got there (I had 1st wanted one too) knew thought I may have as well, till I saw where we where going. But I decide not to fight her on it and just go. We park, great spot cause it was RIGHT in front (a fluke trust me, the parking sucks around there) and go in and I was already thinking "OMG why me" but I just ordered a shrimp burrito. I mean you can't mess that up! Right?!

Ok so we go in, place the orders, get 2 beers, a salad and a burrito. $36! WTF?! Are you for real? Ok....whatever. Last time I take HER for a "salad".
The food was not even that good. I would give the food a 3, the service a 2 and the price a -1, I mean who the hell charges that damn much for a salad, burrito and 2 beers. DAMN! I will stick to Taqueria Guadalajara the next time I want a friggin burrito!

Never fails, I always enjoy Bay Wolf.

Out last night with wife, gentleman with whom I serve on a bunch of boards and his wife.  Discovered Bay Wolf was the place they picked for their 1st East Bay date like 25 years ago.

I enjoyed a sardines starter and a pork loin entree (WOW!)
The wife enjoyed the ceaser and the sole
Everything else at the table was duck of some sort - which I hear is something they do exceptionally well.

It is more rare than rare to find a place who does it this well and has been doing it this well for decades.  Just wonderful.

I will be the first to admit that I might be missing a the fire alarm situation since I do travel just about every week for work.  But, I will say when I come home I am happy.  I do feel as if my personal belongings are safe while I am gone and have had no problems with my car while I travel.  My apartment is big and I do feel the price is right.  I have lived here about 6 months and have had no problems with things breaking  Previously, I had lived in a very old apartments where everything broke and it took forever to get things fixed.  So... I am all for the newer apartment with construction kinks getting ironed out.
The people in the office are helpful and I sincerely think they will get the fire alarm situation fixed.  For me, I like living here, the location is perfect for my lifestyle and when friend visit they also think this is a good place.

Don't let the name of the restaurant fool you!  It's american food disguised as a japanese restaurant!

I was held hostage by a friend of mine who insists that this place is good.  After a few drinks, I'm not so good at fighting off kidnappers.  I immediately recognized this is not a place for fresh fish as I walked in the door.  So we order some rolls and a TonKatsu to share.  Thank god we didn't order sushi!  What is that on the dragon maki? eel sauce?  I think not!

I love this place, the ambiance is not all that but I don't go there for that, I go to get kick ass Quesadillas or bomb enchilladas (my fav is chicken but the shrimp is great too) or the beef tacos....yumm. Horchata is very good, though (as most is) has some grit at the bottom.

Chips & salsa verde is the best! Beats the hell out of over priced El Toro!

I feel the spot.

It's fun place and the food is decent. Sangria house wine and fried calmari rings, that's what I loved.

But as my Mexican friend, who actually took me there, said "where is all the latinos at? There are lots of them on Mission st. in a day time, but they always gone in the evening, so u wont catch them in local restaraunts..."
Now, that's the 1 start minus ;)

I just had another awesome experience in this store that I can't pass up talking about. I wanted to buy a new digital camera and the online price was better then the competition so I decided to go touch and feel at the store. It was early afternoon so they weren't busy and I found a sales girl right away, CeCe who was the best!! She was so personable and had this great sense of humor, but above all that, SHE KNEW ABOUT THE CAMERAS!!! I kind of knew what I wanted, but was on a budget, so she showed me the same camera just the version 6 months older and which was perfect for me and a lot less $$. I had enough left to get the xtra warranty!  If you go, just ask for CeCe and all your troubles will be gone!!
I have bought from them before and they are consistent with their prices and well CeCe is a new addition!! Kudos guys....Give her a raise!!!

I really want to like this place. I like the interior of the place., and I moved here because everyone says how wonderful Alameda, California "The Island" is...

I moved here from a lovely place in Oakland (Yeah, Oakland, you say?)... Yes, Oakland. I LOVED that place where I lived. I never had any problems whatsoever. I always had nice, quiet neighbors and never had a problem with any one of them.

Well, I have lived here in the Summer House Apartments for a little over a month now, and yes, I should give it more time, but I work during normal "Business" Hours Mon-Fri. and so far, I have woken up multiple times throughout the night (including the time I write this now) due to people blaring their music and speaking loudly and ever so drunkenly outside of their balcony window.

I have called their office to ask them to have security ask them to tone down, it's after 10PM (we live in California people we "Do" actually have a curfew for noise pollution). And they continue to play their music, and act like security never came, and not to mention joke about it "Hey, Security asked us to turn down the music, and do you know what I said?... okay" the girl said while laughing...

The parking situation is a nightmare. When I come home from work, there is almost always (twice a week at least) someone parked in my spot... And not to mention me and my gf have two vehicles, so I do the honor ( like a gentleman should) drive around and look for parking around the block.

Oh, not to mention the City likes to trick people and use their oh so clever "1st and 3rd Monday" or "2nd and 4th Monday" and YES I got a ticket because I thought that the whole side of the street was the same Monday... Now why on earth does the City have this "1st 2nd and 3rd 4th on the same street anyways?  To get new tenants like myself... fail fail fail...

The laundromat doors are locked during normal business hours and the staff forgets to unlock it... so it never gets unlocked and it just makes me go to the wonderful Woody's in Oakland near the beautiful lake instead.

Maybe in about six months my mind will change (doubtful) but I imagine I moved into the ghetto portion of Alameda...

People drop and leave trash all over the hallways, and the garbage bins are always over flowing with trash. The hallway rugs have seem to have conducted a natural "black spot" coat trail, as I like to call it, and the oh so wonderful stairwells are coated with the fine stench of beer barf, and cigarette butts.

There is also no ventilation what so ever in the halls, so when someone stinks up the place, you're sure to get a whiff of the wealth. I really wish I was joking... honestly, I really do...

I have heard about a total of six gun shot fire sounds while living here so far... c-r-e-E-E-E-e-P-y. (Did I mention I lived in Oakland, and never once in the four years I lived there did I hear one gun shot fire?)

I agree with Michael G. when he says this place is a nightmare. I do not agree with Kevin though... but of course, we all have our opinions.

There are asbestos postings all over the apartment complex, and sign postings of all kinds of other harmful and dangerous chemicals that can damage your health and possibly your new born, if you decide to have one here that is...

I mean, they really do try to make this place a nice one, but when you let tenants that do not care about their surroundings in, it becomes a meltdown...

They post warning signs like "$50.00 fine if you are caught with a towel or clothing hanging over your balcony"... and they post bills on your door, like that isn't obnoxious (sarcasm intended), can you say Post Office Stamp and Mail it, perhaps?

I spoke with a local Alameda Realtor, and elder gentleman, and he said that this place was renovated from junk basically, and I let him know that it was alright (a week after I moved in) and he gave me a weird look, and you know he was thinking "Are you sure son?"

I need to look up the Alameda crime page like they have in Oakland and subscribe to it. They give you wonderful (daily) insight on your surrounding (up to two mile radius) perimeter on the crime that goes on in your local neighborhood... I guess I should have done some research on this area before moving in... nobody's fault but my own I guess...

It's just a year lease, right? (Cringes) :-(

Sorry to say that many good things are not meant to last, and VR is now one of them.
Yes, the honeymoon period has worn off. I've been dining frequently at this place lately. So I've started to notice a trend of inconsistent service and a decline in food quality in some items.

Prices for many dishes have gone up just a little bit, since I first reviewed this place.
Lunch prices are now closer to dinner prices. For example, cha gio (2 rolls) is now $5.25 & $5.45 respectively. And lunch entrees that were 5 something, are now 6 something. Most dinner items remain at $6.75, with a few exceptions that are $7.50 or under $10. In comparison to nearby places, My Canh's price for cha gio (3 rolls) is $4.75, and most soups (pho) are under $6.

The price change is tiny, so no big deal for me. It's still relatively cheap compared to many other places. And I don't mind paying more if the food quality I've come to expect is somewhat consistent, but that's not the case here. You still get the thinly sliced onions and the bright green parsley on their soups, which give it that "fresh ingredients" look. Something that you don't get at many other cheap Vietnamese places in SF that use dull looking greens instead. But on one occasion, the flavor of the broth was watered down. It seemed to me like if they had just added water to the soup base, and that it needed to simmer for a while longer before it could develop the flavor. Or maybe they were trying to stretch the amount of soup to fill all the orders that night. I don't know. Also service is not always friendly, and all the noise when they pickup and throw the dirty plates into the sink starts to get annoying after a few visits (the place is tiny and narrow, so the noise of the plates can be loud). You can tell when they (the 2 women that run this place) are not in a good mood, because they start making more noise with the plates than usual.

I've tried many of the items in their menu in multiple occasions so far. The rice plates with fried eggs plopped on top, 5-spice grilled chicken, grilled lemongrass pork, the banh mi (chicken/ pork) sandwiches and several soups. Sometimes it was really good (lemongrass pork), but other times it was just okay.

Last night was the worst example so far, of their declining quality. I ordered the cha gio appetizer and a chicken curry with rice noodles. One of the 2 cha gio rolls was half burned, and the chicken meat in the curry was mostly skin and bones. There were perhaps 4 or 5 bites of chicken meat and the rest was just skin and pieces of bone. It was like if they had used the leftover scraps of someone else's plate after they had already eaten the chicken. The few potatoes and onions in the curry soup could not make up for the absence of meat. Flavor was weak.

So taking all things into consideration, the overall value of VR is now average.

Places like Pagolac and PPQ are better at maintaining a consistent level of quality, at least during the times I've visited those places.

Well, another high priced Store in the Castro to take advantage of the Gay population with more disposable money. I can't for the life of me figure out why they think they should charge 25%  to 35% more for the same exact items that Pet food Express sells. I also compared the prices to some other neighborhood stores and what a difference. I know the rents in the Stro are much higher, but why not just charge like 10-15% more and do more volume (what do I know), and not gouge the customer. Also, they are also soo sensitive when you say that you have seen a product somewhere else cheaper....lol lol. Pushy sales person, sorry guys you need to do better......

Been coming here for a lot of years now.  This place has some pluses and some minuses.  The good is that the food is pretty tasty.  Filipino style Chinese food that's probably what you would find in a Chinatown.  A Chinatown in Manila of course.  They're know for their noodles and they do a pretty darn good job on those noodles.  Their Sui Mai is the size of a baseball and is dirt cheap too.  Filipino style breakfasts are very popular here. I usually order their 2 item BBQ combo plate which I choose their roasted duck and roasted pork (Siu Yuk if your Chinese and Lechon if you're Filipino).  Sometimes I get lucky and there's a lot of duck meat and sometimes I get a lot of neck.  Oh well, I still order the duck anyways since I'm a big fan of duck.  I always ask for garlic rice instead of the usual white rice and they don't charge any extra for the substitution.  They have an authentic Chinese deli off to the side, but I only would  only order meats from the deli as opposed to any of their hot foods sitting in stainless steel pans for god knows how long.  The bad is that their service is very poor I'm afraid and there is a security guard outside on the weekends for obvious reasons.  This place is a dirty dive no doubt.   It's always been like that as far as I can remember, but they're open late on the weekends so an obvious choice for late night clubbers, bar hoppers, thugs, and drifters as most of the restaurants in that area close somewhat early.

I used to be a big See's candy fan.  Not so much for the chocolates, although I do really like the milk and dark bordeaux.  In fact for quite a few years I've been everywhere but here to satisfy my chocolate fix... Recchiuti, Vosges, Cocoa Bella, Godiva, Joseph Schmidt, MarieBelle... etc...etc.

There's just something comforting about See's, though.  My favorites are the bonbon styles.  There are about 5 flavors total... coconut, apricot, orange, maple walnut, and Tipperary.... Tipperary being for me what Morphine is for Aimee L.   :).

I used to have a nice filipino bf a long time ago that would bring me 1 pound boxes of this mix of 5 flavors and I would devour them in 1 day... 1 day people.  Thank goodness I was still in trapeze classes or I would've gotten huge!  One day our usual See's location started messing up the exterior coating on these bonbons and they were too grainy and hard... I was turned off as much as if I had seen my roommate's superwhite tush.

Flash forward 4 years and I attempted to eat See's again at this location.  It's tiny... oh so tiny, but sometimes that can be a good thing.  3 ladies behind 1 counter = plenty of attention.  I turned down about 3 samples, before she realized I wasn't going for chocolates and offered me a bonbon sample... I'm only human people!  SO I caved in... and that's why I'll never be one of those super buff gay boys...  I like junk food too much!

The kind lady gave me 3 coupons, and I was in and out in like less than 5 minutes.  A definite plus that it's on my way to see my guy for lunch in the FiDi.  Oh...and the best part... the bonbons are the way I remember them originally... not overly grainy... not dried out or hard... but very capable of inducing a sugar coma.  1/2 pound box to go please!

I'm not much of a boutique shopper (more of a bargain type), but I can fully appreciate a well-run boutique with fabulous items.

Not only is this place super cute, the layout works well to introduce all the pieces of clothing/jewelry/shoes/etc without feeling stuffy and uncomfortable.  It's a very open space and everyone who works here is super helpful and nice.  Not pretentious at all!

The clothing is very chic and caters to people in their 20s-30s.  Like most boutiques, there are limited sizes, but there's a lot of variety in clothing and many brands.

Now, if I had more money, I would probably shop here often.  I really feel they have clothes that can fit most wardrobes and their pieces are great to mix and match.  Definitely worth a browse if you're in downtown Los Altos.  It's one of the best boutiques in the area.  Just be prepared to leave with a lighter wallet.

Depending on what sandwich you order expect a lot of meat, and don't ever expect to leave the restaurant hungry unless you're doing take out.  Ever since I read the glowing reviews from some of my Yelp friends I've wanted to give Miller's a try.  I've visited this deli three times now, and I have yet to finish a sandwich inside the restaurant.  I've ended up taking at least a quarter of the sandwich to go each time.

Mid-afternoon lunches on the weekdays is definitely preferred.  My first time visit occurred on a weekend morning, and although the turnover rate to get a table was amazingly fast the line was insane.  Most of the folks in line were pretty cool though; good food has a tendency to mellow folks out.

During my most recent visit a friend and I took some out-of-town guests here.  As expected they were all shocked by the portion of meat between the two slices of bread which ranged from an inch and a half to close to four inches thick.  On most sandwiches you get a choice of bread along with cole slaw or potato salad and a delicious crunchy pickle half.  Having previously tried both the hot corned beef and the hot pastrami sandwiches I selected The Chief which combines both corned beef and pastrami along with a thin layer of cole slaw and sweet Russian dressing on the bread (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  I chose a hoagie roll and potato salad along with a soda.

As expected the sandwich was delicious.  Both meats combined perfectly with the coleslaw and dressing which complimented the meats rather than overpowered them.  The potato salad had large chunks of red skin potatoes and just a hint of dill.  After consuming half the sandwich our friendly waiter asked if everything was okay and whether I was done.  My friend and our guests each quit after consuming just half of their sandwiches, but I wanted to see if I could go all the way.

I couldn't do it.  Less than half way into the second half of my sandwich I flagged down our waiter and asked him for a take out box.  Considering the amount of filling in their sandwiches their prices are very reasonable.  I intend to keep going back.  I'd like to try some of their breakfast entrees or dinner plates, and for once I'd like to walk out of there having finished up everything on my plate.

This place was CRAP! My mother and I were hungry so we went to Nicole's Diner. The service was sloppy, the guy that cooked our food was on a "break" outside with his friends and i didnt see him even wash his hands before making the food, GROSS! Also it was dead inside the diner and it took FOREVER to get our food. The chick up at the front counter wasnt even helpful or nice. Nothing but bad things, the food was gross, and i got sick the next day.

Been coming to this Filipino owned and operated Japanese restaurant for like a billion years now.  What I like about this place besides their signature Kamameshi rice pots is that they are very consistent!  I could not remember a time eating here that there food has ever changed course.  Not one time! Amazing!  Their combo plates are a pretty good value and the food is very good for the price they charge.  The sushi here is surprising very good as well.  Service is good, but during rush hours expect to wait 15 - 20 minutes before getting a table unless there's sushi bar seating available which is on a first sit and first serve basis.  I've seem the same Chinese waiter working since the first time I stated coming here and one time I asked him how long he's be working at Kamameshi House.  He said about 20 years.  I was like whoa this guys made a career working here.  Talk about a loyal employee.  This guy is a permanent fixture.  Parking is easy strip mall style.
