When I first got sober in April/May 1998 at St. John's Hospital's inpatient rehab, we took "field trips" to the Twelve N Twelve store. After I got out of rehab, I continued to stop by the store, sometimes to buy something, but many times just to breathe and talk to Keate.
The big city can be a scary place for someone new to sobriety, with liquor stores and bars on every block. But the Twelve N Twelve was an oasis of safety for me back then when I needed it most, and talking to the owner, Keate was like being at a meeting.
I have long since moved out of the area, but I went back to the store today after nearly 20 years, and the familiarity and energy in the store was still comforting and peaceful. It was one of the best days I have had in two decades of sobriety!
Keate is still there but is contemplating retirement, so I encourage anyone who has been blessed with knowing her and her store to stop by and support her, and anyone in recovery who hasn't found the Twelve N Twelve to walk through its door soon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cassie S.Santa Monica, CA83553Oct 28, 2017

Keep this place alive! Super affordable. Lots of spiritual books (like Pema Chodron!) and they'll order any 12&12 stuff they're out of if you need it.

I love this store and hope it continues to keep its doors open. I come in a few times a year for anniversary chips and/or special gifts. Keate is a passionate, fun person who I always enjoy visiting with. She is helpful and treats her customers like family. The store is warm and inviting as well as well stocked with everything you could possibly need. It has been a godsend for me both when I was newly sober and throughout my sobriety. I only wish we had something equally as good here in the Desert.

This is a tiny hole-in-the-wall Alcoholics Anonymous specialty gift shop (It's right next to Blockbuster at Santa Monica Blvd and Bundy Dr with a light purple facade).
The place is pretty small and every available surface is covered in tiny knick-knacks and pins and inspirational messages. Sure, some of the merchandise have seen better days, but there was a little section of thank-you-for-your-support cards which kinda got to me. I had a great chat with the woman at the counter who was a total sweetheart. Seemed like she hadn't had that much business today, but she was really open to explaining the different symbols and signs.
Anyway, I liked the shop and thought it was a great way to show support.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cam W.Pasadena, CA351May 26, 2016
Good store with everything you need aa related, as well as other benificial self help books. I got a free medalist for checking in, and it was a five month, I didn't even know those existed. Clerk was friendly and engaging. Only reason I dropped a star is because they had a cat. I happen to love cats, and it was really sweet, but some people don't and there is a residual odor and dankness. All in all pretty good though.
