Q:
Anyone know if employees are given proper ppe/wearing masks/requiring customers to wear masks?
A:
They rush to put their masks on when they see a customer coming up the steps. My wife and I have seen them working with food behind the counter with no masks. They don't care until they are being watched.

Bone. In. Ribeye. WOW!!! Every single bite was an experience in its own. I did mine in a cast iron skillet with just salt and pepper. Finished off with garlic, butter based, and rosemary.
Ventura meats have the best meats in Ventura County!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 19, 2023Updated review
Service is always great here. Stopped by to get a bird for Thanksgiving, and was greeted immediately when we walked in.
Impressed that they have a truck full of turkeys so glad to see that business is doing well.
The owner's always nice and willing to help out. They have a wide selection of meats from Wagyu to sausages, burger, patties, and thick bacon--think CHONKY bacon.
Place is always well ventilated and clean and still my fave butcher shop to date!Helpful 17Thanks 5Love this 19Oh no 0Jun 2, 2015Previous reviewLove that there's still a local butcher shop around the county that's fairly accessible location wise! And I even love them more because they have organic grass fed protein. It somehow makes me feel better that I'm not consuming an animal that was raised just for well.. Consuming. But I digress.
The place is clean! No don't expect meat hanging off iron rods or something that's straight off of a Dexter episode. All their meats are encased in their fridge (slabs and slabs of it) and their cold case up front.
We came in a slow Sunday afternoon to peruse and finally check this place out because we were craving steak. The one dude, he's cool but he looked new there. I asked him where their dry-aged meat stuff was and he looked totally clueless. The other lady then said everything they sell there apparently is dry aged!!! Score!!
The price isn't too far away from Whole Foods but they have more selections and if they have a coupon for 25% off if you check in!
We finally got the NY Strip cut and breakfast sausages! Pan-Seared the steak; the fat rendered beautifully and had a nice homemade dinner!
I hope they stick around longer! VC def needs to keep them around! - Tina L.Oxnard, CA072124Sep 14, 2023
SERVICE: Good customer service. Helpful. Clean.
FOOD: Good pieces of meat, fresh, and good tasting. Was nervous about finding a good meat market in Oxnard and are satisfied with what we found. Check out the cuts of bacon. Once good, the smell, the taste, just awesome. Picked up bacon strips, tri tips, and sausage (chicken/garlic/herb & Hawaiian pork).

We love them.
In the past, we have enjoyed eye of the round, sausages, and game meat.
Everything is yummy here and the people are so friendly.
Today, we bought Manhattan steaks, $10 each. We bought 5.
If you love to make your own jerky, we do recommend buying your eye of the round here.

Purchased a 14 lb rib eye roast
It really lacked marbling and was very expensive poor quality.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Grant B.Carlsbad, CA23139Nov 21, 2022Updated review
Been wanting to visit this place for a long time. This place is great! Owner (Mike) is very knowledgable and friendly, along with co butcher Megan.
Got my Thanksgiving Turkey along with some venison, boar and hanger steaks.
Shop is immaculate and the service is very speedy. You can tell you're getting a higher quality of meat then you would at the grocery store but pricing seams fair and reasonable.
Selection of meats also phenomenal, with lots of options. I wish I lived local, I would be in there every week!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Oct 6, 2021Previous reviewOwner is a great guy and very knowledgeable on all things meat, even over the phone. Highly recommend, especially for Thanksgiving Turkeys!

The owner is a good person, and the staff is friendly. If you ever wanted to be a gourmet chef, shopping at the VMC makes it easy. They have the best products and selection almost anywhere.
I made a rack of elk with a bone marrow compound butter (shallots, cured and shaved egg yolk, garlic paste, anchovies, bone marrow, butter, and parsley) with habanero and maple syrup. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Try them. You'll go back again and again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 10, 2021
Beef!!
It's what's for dinner!
Before we get into the 'Meat' & Potatoes of this review, I thought I'd share a few meat-based (not plant-based) funnies that only us meat eaters will (chuck)le at.
Here are a few memes borrowed from social media that may or may not make your (loin)s hurt from laughter.
Just out of curiosity...
'Is a rivalry between two vegetarians still called a beef?'
And did you know...
'Vegetarians live up to nine years longer than the rest of us...
Nine horrible,
Worthless,
Baconless
Years'
And just because I'm looking out for you...
Dear vegans,
I killed this cow because it was eating your food.
You're Welcome.

Last month, I was driving through Ventura after having lunch with my wife and out of the corner of my
(Rib)eye, I saw it....
The Ventura Meat Company
So naturally, I had to stop in to see what this place was all about.
As I walked through the front door, it actually felt like I was stepping back in time. A time where meat was taken more seriously and where meat was literally their top (sirloin) priority.
The butchers were all in attire that you would expect from a legit butcher. The place is clean, has plenty of natural light from all of the storefront windows and sets the tone for a quality, locally-sourced meat market.
A glass case is located front and center and is loaded up with their best cuts of beef, pork and game that you won't find at your local grocery store.
Things that stood out was their Wagyu Tri Tip, Bacon (in traditional strips) and/or ground bacon (yes you heard me right, Ground Bacon!!), Bison Tri Tip, Wagyu beef hamburger patties, and a six pack of duck eggs from a local ranch (in Agoura Hills).
Amongst other things, like their selection of foul, sausages and your typical cuts of beef, you can't help but to notice the Quality this place prides itself on.
The staff behind the counter were friendly and seemed to graciously answer any questions from its customers.
So the next time you fire up that Weber or Traeger, Do yourself and your family a favor and shop local.
See the difference your local meat market can make in both flavor, quality and selection, I know I will!Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Jenny L.Queens, NY157732Jul 5, 2023
Just went there yesterday to get some last minute meats. Great customer service and nice meat selection. They also have bone marrow which is great because no other butcher shop has bone marrow or duck eggs. Best butcher place I've been to!

Best Italian sausage I've ever had. Can't wait to go back and try more. The people are so friendly and helpful. And I really love all the old timey antique decor. Very cool place.
