Facility is very clean and rarely crowded. I wish they had group training though there are videos that can be used in a separate room.

I've been a member at Snap's in Newport for at least eight years. Everything has always been great. Less than a year ago Snaps was sold and a new owner took over. Things have started going downhill ever since. I've heard more complaints about the cleanliness and the clutter of the gym since the new owners came in than ever before.
I came into the gym the other day and I noticed one of the members reading a sign located on the front desk. The sign said sorry there was no notification but the $25 extra charge you see on your account is for a maintenance fee. I have my payment set up as an auto draft charged to my credit card monthly so I went home and looked at my account. Sure enough my charge was increased by $25. I contacted Snaps through email since there is no one permanently staffed there asking for my $25 to be returned and to cancel my membership because I never agreed to that.. How can you trust a company that can just increase your payment with no notice and then just say I'm sorry?? I was told it was in my contract. I asked to see my contract and was denied. I asked to speak to the owner. Once again I was denied. I was told they would give the owner my contact info and he would call me. I haven't heard a word.
I started doing my research and found that if you have auto draft set up for a recurring payment of a set amount, the company cannot increase that amount without 10 days notice. We didn't get any notice but only a sorry after our account had already been charged.
I also talked to other gym members that paid a lump sum for a set amount of time. Example $350 for 12 months but they paid in cash. Those numbers are just for example, I don't know the cash charge. They said they haven't had to pay any additional fees. So I guess the maintenance fee is only applicable to those on auto draft?
I do want to add that all Snaps are independently owned. So just because this owner chooses to conduct business this way doesn't mean they are all this way.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
