Red Desert Adventure

Awesome experience - I did a 1:1 private canyoneering full day adventure. I was hesitant to do something as a single traveller/private, but now I am happy I did. Worth the $ for an awesome experience, and not being with a group made it easier to do a lot of stuff and have a flexible experience. My guide was Josh and he was really friendly and beyond competent - I felt safe with all the adventures we went on in and out of slot canyons, and all kinds of technical gear/activities, and driving around the wilds of the greater Zion area.

You are missing out if you don't do a canyoneering adventure with in Zion. Technically, there is no canyoneering within Zion but you'll be in the vicinity of the national park. We wanted to do something memorable during our trip to Zion and decided to go with Red Desert after our research online. Booking was easy, we were able to get same day reservation on the July 4th weekend.

Our guide, Eric was amazing. He was calm, patient and pushed us just the right amount outside our comfort level for us to come back with great memories from the trip. Our kids, ages 9 and 11 did great. For one of the sheer drops, he did a tandem for our younger one. This was a private tour, the equipment felt clean and we felt safe and informed throughout our adventure. Can't recommend enough!

We did a canyoneering adventure that brought us to a beautiful slot canyon. I am not super athletic and this tested me physically and mentally, but everything was doable. Our guide Jack was patient and knowledgeable. My teenage boys and adventure-seeking husband loved this excursion. They were challenged and had a great time. Each trip is different depending on group size, weather, location, etc. Our trip to Yankee Doodle Canyon began with two big rappels. We needed the rope to assist with some areas of down climbing/stemming. The hike out at the end was some easy rock climbing/scrambling, but it was going up so it was strenuous.

We could not have been happier with our "high adventure" canyoneering trip down Water Canyon. Andy was a knowledgeable, friendly and experienced guide. He was very fun to spend the day with and the high proficiency of his skills was evident from the start. We always felt 100% safe in his hands and feel like he taught us so well that we would be safe beginning to incorporate some rappelling and canyoneering into our own repertoire. We are new climbers and my wife was not excited about canyoneering because she thought it was not adventurous enough. She went along with it because I really wanted to try it out. She is definitely a convert and I think we have Andy to thank for that. We will definitely contact Red Desert again the next time we're in the area for additional canyoneering and climbing guiding.

I can't recommend this company enough! My husband and I had perfect 1/2 day canyoneering. I would not change a thing. I like that our guide gave us some options for our location so we were able to customize our adventure a bit. He was incredibly knowledgeable and professional. Don't be afraid to try and book something at the last minute. We scheduled our outing the night before. They don't have the online calendar scheduling like some other companies do but they answer the phone quickly and they do this so they can ask a few important questions about your abilities and expectations so they can create the best experience for your party. We're already planning our next trip and will be using Red Desert again.

"this Canyoneering was an absolutely most amazing experience" ... the hiking, traversing through the canyons, and then rappelling large steep cliffs.. an absolute wonderful experience and all made possible with having an amazing and professional guide, "Andy" ... Family of 4 (wife and I along with 14 yr. twin boys). We did a full day of Canyoneering, saw the most amazing mountain formations, canyons and forestry one could only imagine... Andy took us for a journey and we won't ever forget what we experienced. We were made comfortable which eliminated our fear in rappelling down mountains (I'm 6'5" and a lean 290 lbs.)... Andy re-assures me nothing would ever go wrong, and nothing ever did, at the end of the day!! My wife and kids wore a smile on their face all day as we ventured through these mountains.
Safety was a concern at first, but with Andy's guidance and knowledge, we washed away those thoughts every step of the way following his lead and direction. he did a great job in allowing us to be ourselves and be creative with our own techniques, rather than being a teacher the entire time... he showed us once or twice and that's all we needed for us to all just enjoy, rappelling, hiking and being adventurous... we all felt like "Indiana Jones " haha... can't wait to do this again very soon!

This was bucket list for us! I took my two teen boys on a half-day canyoneering tour. Our guide was Melissa and she took us to Lower Red Caves Canyon. She was so personable and a great teacher. We loved her and highly recommend her. The canyon she took us to was epic, unbelievable, we had the time of our lives. What a fantastic experience! We will definitely do a full-day tour next time we're in the area.

Enjoyed our canyoneering trip with our exceptional guide Graham! He explained everything made sure we felt safe & stayed safe the entire way. He even made us laugh along the way! Can't wait to come back!

Just wrapped up an awesome canyoneering trip!!!! Love the private small tour. Jack is a great guide - 30+ years of experience - calm and make sure everyone is comfortable and enjoying trip. He is also a great photographer.

If you are considering canyoneering, Red Desert is the only way to go.

We took our family of five (kids age 6-11) canyoneering for the first time. It was an excellent experience. Matt was a fantastic, calm, good spirited, and patient guide. He was responsive to our comfort levels and did some of the faces tandem with our 6 year old when required.

Equipment all felt clean (we did this during COVID) and in excellent condition. The experience challenged us just the right amount and very safe the entire time.

Our kids started nervous but didn't want to end when our half day was over.
