Mr. Handyman of Western Wake County

Two guys showed up in the morning to prep kitchen island lighting. They left after an hour to "get supplies." They were gone for several hours and I finally called the office to inquire and request to cancel the job since the guys disappeared for the day. I ran out quickly and when I got back my husband told me the guys had come and gone. I called the office and asked and the woman on the phone told me...as though it was perfectly normal...that they had simply gone back to my house to collect their tools. They left tarp out, wires hanging out of the ceiling, my designer lights for install tossed in a pile on a side table. Absolutely awful experience all around. Completely unprofessional.

I saw a DIY for built in bookshelves using Ikea pre-made Billy shelves. I knew it was beyond my capabilities, so I turned to Mr. Handyman. Todd and Mike made it turn out better than I imagined! It is done right, they didn't cut corners and the work is top notch!

I became aware of Mr. Handyman after they installed a stair handrail at my Mom's house as part of a senior citizen program. I needed some work done at my house, and was so impressed with my Mom's hand rail, I figured I would give them a try. Well, I think I have lost count of how many times I have used them now. Painting/priming, drywall repair, mildew removal, broken drywall anchor repair, bathroom fan installation, a new crawlspace door and threshold on all 4 sides... I'll be having Mike come back soon to replace our main kitchen light fixture. Mike is our handyman for everything and he is fantastic. Top-notch work, he knows how to fix anything, and he is professional and friendly. I can't say enough good things. The office employees are always happy and friendly too, and helpful with scheduling - I can text them photos of the job in question so they know what the work entails and then can schedule/quote appropriately. I'm so relieved to have found a reliable handyman company!

Demetrius and the scheduling team at Mr Handyman are top notch professionals. I've had a few handymen in the past but Demetrius is now my go-to guy due to the quality of his work. I had an above range microwave that needed venting to the outside but the position of the electrical studs were a problem. Demetrius hand made the vent enclosure and now after several years we can cook without opening windows! He has also repaired doors, bathroom fans, electrical light fixtures and more. I will assuredly be back and I highly recommend this company for your handyman needs! Well done crew.

The handyman, Randy, showed up on time, completed work professionally and took care of our list of projects well. I really like that this company lets
you know what to expect every step of the way: they send you an estimate of time and costs; they will pick up materials needed (We thank Todd for recommending a garage lighting and picking it up along with another material needed); sending us the name and photo of person who would show up; and Randy handed me his business card when he arrived at the door. We are very pleased with all the work Randy completed and the garage lighting is a huge improvement. We certainly recommend Mr. Handyman of Western Wake County and will call them when we need help with future household projects.

This is an addendum to my original post. After the company owner saw the post he called me and we discussed the situation. He agreed to refund the difference between what I had already paid for the materials costs and the materials costs, including the upcharge, that would be associated with a store purchase price of $300. He also explained that his technicians only mention the upcharge when customers ask about things they can do to reduce the price of their projects, which he said is a policy other companies use. I didn't change the original rating because this incident should have never happened.

I hired Mr Handyman of Western Wake County to replace the railing on my small balcony deck. This was the third time I've hired them and the quality for those projects was very good and I believe the prices were fair. Because of that history I didn't give much attention to the details of the quote for replacing the railing before I signed it. Bad mistake. The railing was replaced today and the work quality was very good. However, after seeing the materials cost on the invoice ($560) I checked at the big box store where they were purchased and my estimate of the price of all the materials is less than $300, and that's without a contractor's discount. The major materials were two 6 ft rail kits, one railing post and its cap, and the necessary hardware for installation. When I asked the office rep about the materials price I was told that when one of their reps purchases and picks up the materials for a project they add a 40% "upcharge" to the cost of the materials. If I had been told about that add-on I would have picked up the materials myself but it was never mentioned.

I discovered water damage from a leaking toilet. Mark provided professional, reasonably priced, quality service, and also provided sound advice.

We have used Mr. Handyman for different repairs and he always does
professional excellent work. We are pleased with the services.
