Rather than being sold pre-assembled, much of IKEA's furniture is designed to be self-assembled. The company claims that this helps reduce costs and use of packaging by not shipping air; the volume of a bookcase, for example, is considerably less if it is shipped unassembled rather than assembled. This is also practical for many of the chain's European customers, where public transport is commonly used, because the flat-pack methods allow for easier transport via public transportation. IKEA contends that it has been a pioneering force in sustainable approaches to mass consumer culture.[citation needed]. Kamprad calls this "democratic design," meaning that the company applies an integrated approach to manufacturing and design (see also environmental design). In response to the explosion of human population and material expectations in the 20th and 21st centuries, the company implements economies of scale, capturing material streams and creating manufacturing processes that hold costs and resource use down, such as the extensive use of Medium-Density Fiberboard ("MDF"), also called "particle board." It is an engineered wood fibre glued under heat and pressure to create a building material of superior strength which is resistant to warp. IKEA uses cabinet-grade and furniture-grade MDF in all of its MDF products, such as PAX wardrobes and kitchen cupboards. IKEA also uses wood, plastic, and other materials for furniture and other products. The intended result is flexible, adapta

    • Q:

How can I contact this store directly to see if they have an item in stock?

      A:

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you can check their inventory on-line. But I could be wrong. You can try (888) 888-4532 as well.

    • Q:

Since they reopened in Round Rock how hard is it to get in. Long line all day?

      A:

The line usually moves at a fast pace. It is especially short on weekdays.

      2 check-ins

March 2024, Fast and easy way to kill some time. My husband dropped me off while he took a business call. I was able to browse and take my time exploring the new thing and little square footage of living space. After my browsing, I ordered me an ice cream cone at the cafe. It was ok, kinda soft so it melts right away. Other than that it was a good day.

I've never lived super close to an IKEA and it's probably a good thing. I could spend hours here brainstorming about solutions to my home. They have all the things you could ever need for your home at an affordable price. I ordered many Billy bookshelves online and had to deal with shipping, returns and a damaged shelf during shipping and IKEA handled it all professionally and to my satisfaction. I'm already thinking about my next trip.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to get inspiration for an empty room in our house. We decided to go to the café and share an 8 Swedish meatball meal, ordering was easy and fast. The gravy was flavorful and the meatballs were tender. The plain peas were good as plain peas get. The mashed potatoes were underwhelming considering I've gotten more flavorful and more textured powered mashed potatoes from the grocery store. I wouldn't ever go to IKEA just to eat at their cafe, but if you were going to IKEA for furniture shopping and hadn't eaten yet, their cafe it's a decent option.

Back to Ikea to check out options for converting our spare room into a nursery, which was very limited but I expected that. We also checked out the food court for the first time. Last time we visited it was covid so it was shut down. The chocolate cake was my favorite!

Thought I would come and see what new items they have. I didn't have a mission, just killing time and looking around. The space is large. If you've ever been to an IKEA, it's a lot of walking. The space is very clean, and organized. They have markers in the floor so you know what direction to walk. They have paper rulers if you need to measure furniture. Not a lot of employees around, so you're kind of on your own. Furniture is that of first apartment. Or college. It's affordable furniture. They have a list of items. Everything from welcome mats to kitchen islands.

Well.... it's Ikea. you always find things that you didn't know you needed along with the ones that you did. What's also sad is that they no longer do that 5% off for signing up for the group membership. Very disappointing

Masters of bait and switch pricing. Stacking lid storage boxes on final sale for $.79 each. I grab 8. Total is almost $30.

The boxes are on sale. The lids, however, are not. Each piece is priced separately.

You can get the boxes without lids and not stack them, or pay 4x as much to be able to use them as intended.

Went exploring at the adult playground called IKEA located in Round Rock. Thoroughly enjoyed this location because it's surrounded by many shops and large parking lots allowing a freedom to roam around the shops in the area. I also like this IKEA because The layout is one level so you don't have to climb or descend any stairs. Upon entering, I do appreciate the welcoming smiles of the greeter in the foyer. I think this is a nice level of service coming in from the parking lot. Those of you who enjoy IKEA like I do, I like the sections of rooms that are laid out like mini living rooms or bedrooms or kitchens while exploring the store. I feel the price is fair or better because you don't have to deal with packaging in most cases. My favorite part of wandering through IKEA is stumbling upon their food court. They serve all which you can buy down in the exit, but my favorite is the meatballs and fresh veggies. It's a healthy meal and many times we just go for the food.

I'm currently waiting in line to order delivery for a couch. It took 50 minutes and 3 employees to order it, because the system and the backup system failed and they were unable to select a delivery option.

I waited while each employee tried the same troubleshooting steps and asked for all my information again each time.

Finally they gave up and said I can pay for it and then head to another kiosk to set up delivery. The cashier forgot to apply the IKEA family discount and I just barely caught it in time before she charged my card. It was about $150 off the price and that information just got lost between the 3 employees trying to figure out what was going on.

Finally, the delivery center gave me a piece of paper to write the delivery info on, since all the computer systems were still rejecting the delivery.

Hopefully I'll be out of here soon.

UPDATE: it took a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Now today, it turns out they got the delivery date wrong, and I'm currently on hold trying to get it fixed. I never imagined it could take multiple hours to order a couch.
