I dearly loved this school and took over 1000 hours of training. The teachers are fantastic and the new location on Valley Parkway in Escondido is lovely.
You learn hands on and I have never been disappointed with any class. As a matter of fact I have had massages from many people that had there training elsewhere and not had as good of massage from any of them. I for one will never get another massage from anyone that was not trained at Healing Shane's School of Holistic Health !!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Wonderful school for learning massage! The owners are so kind and welcoming of all people, and you can go here if you pay in full or if you need help through FAFSA. They have locations in Escondido, Laguna Hills and Kearny Mesa, and if you're not interested in going to school here, just receiving massage, you can get great massages from students in their "student clinic" for really amazing rates! Give them a call. Highly recommend this place over any other school; they truly teach with integrity, honesty, and compassion.

RESPONSE TO OWNER'S RESPONSE: Another experience with this school was that the owners never took responsibility for any of their school's failings and flaws. Their response exemplifies this.
---
My first one-star review was reported and removed, so let's try again.
I am a FORMER STUDENT. I completed the 600-hour massage therapy program.
I DO NOT recommend this school. Not one bit. I'll keep my reasons brief:
THE SCHOOL:
Out of all the federally funded schools I have been to, this is the most unprofessional school by far.
There are no checks and balances systems within the school. There is no grievance or appeals process (even though it's stated that there is one in the student handbook). Whatever the owners say, is what goes. This sets up for abuse in the system, which is what I experienced.
I found some possible discrepancies within their book and record keeping, which naturally brought about questions.
When I asked for clarification, instead of going over the records with me and answering my questions, they decided to use intimidation tactics to "resolve" the issue and remove the "problem" (me), instead of trying to problem solve in healthy and functional ways. This is a huge red flag that something is amiss within the system.
THE PROGRAM:
Their circulatory and sports massage coursework are outdated and teach the use of thumbs and fingers, which is not sustainable for a long career. In fact, it can lead to injury of the joints.
I found this school more appropriate for students interested in energy healing. While it does teach anatomy and hands-on massage work, if you're looking for something more in line with science, I'd choose a different school.
The only positive of this school was the people I met in the program. I developed a few different longterm friendships.
THE BUILDING:
The Escondido building (the main school) is old and dilapidated. It is not ADA-compliant, however since the building is old, it is exempt. Their rooms are upstairs, there is no elevator, and it is not wheelchair accessible. People are often smoking outside of the buildings.
THE STUDENT CLINIC:
I also tried out the student clinic a few times and before I became a student, and was unimpressed. Yes, it's super affordable. However, the quality of student is highly variable, and they tend to do whatever they are learning, which is fine, however client preferences should be taken into consideration. The room it was done in was dirty.
IN CONCLUSION:
Overall, I do not recommend this school. My experience was negative and if I could do massage training over, I'd choose a different school. One that teaches proper form for a sustainable career in massage, one that cares about their students, even when conflict arises, and one that is current and up-to-date in their curriculum.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1Business owner information

Hi Casey, I truly do not understand how you could have ever successfully attended Healing Hands. There are virtually no classes which teach using only fingers and thumbs to perform professional massage therapy. Every course continually drills the ergonomic use of proper body mechanics. This is the reason that literally hundreds of employers seek our graduates. Our 10,000 graduates work, own and manage thousands of private practices, day spas, physical therapy offices, and sports medicine facilities. The owner of 2 Spa Gregories in Laguna Hills, hires only Healing Hands graduates because she can count on Healing Hands graduates staying in the field much longer than therapists from any other program.
And yes, it is true that as a small business owner, we sometimes make extremely difficult decisions. Keeping a massage therapy school open during the past 2.5 years of Covid has been very challenging. More than one student was very angry with us for requiring masks, for promoting proper classroom hygiene and for adhering to CDC guidelines. We are very grateful to all the students and staff who work very hard to keep Healing Hands School both safe and the best school for training massage therapy in southern California while continuing to be a community where students and staff make longtime friendships.
Casey, each time you sink into your knees while giving a wonderful massage session, we wish you success and health. - Nancy C.SoMa, San Francisco, CA01Aug 24, 2023
So happy i found this school! I am forever greatful for the staff and teachers for making learning so much fun. Loved that it was more hands on learning than textbook learning. I felt a bit scared starting school because im in my late 30's but to my surprise i felt very comfortable because i found people of all ages and everybody made me feel welcomed and safe. I would highly recomend this school to friends and family.

This is a review is for the student massage clinic only (not the school as I've never attended the massage school). For $45 you get an hour massage with a student and a free hour massage to schedule for another time with the student clinic. Though still in training, the students usually do a wonderful job- asking you where your focus points are, checking whether the strokes and pressure are to your liking. I have yet to have a bad massage experience and who can beat 2 massages for $45? Highly recommend it- I try to go at least a few times a year.

I am a curious individual, lifetime learner and believe in the act of self care. I did not attend this school for their massage program, as I was already licensed and board certified in the field.
I have participated in continuing education courses, known others who attended their classes, and I advocate for teaching schools and support their student clinics.
Healing Hands offers a great value at $45 for two massages. By the time a student performs this work they have completed their core trainings and you would be surprised how good it can be.
Students do care about doing good work as they want to perfect their skills. I've had many clinic massages that surpassed a resort spa. Sure there is no sauna, steam room etc, but it's hard to beat the cost.
Healing Hands now has three locations Laguna Niguel (in the OC), Escondido and San Diego (their newest addition). If you are a healing professional and need CEU's they are a good source or try the clinic and help a student gain the experience they need to move towards licensing.

Great place to get regenerated with a massage! Students work on you, the price can't be beat 2 for $45 (current offer). Escondido, Kearny Mesa and Laguna Hills.......I've been going over 3 years and it beats the cost of Dr. referrals......I've been healthier since I've been getting regular massages.....3 years strong. The owner is really nice and staff are as well! Great way for students to fine tune their skills!

Jun 23, 2018Previous reviewI had a choice. Physical therapy or massage. I made the right decision. AND. It's cheaper than my co-pay for medical. Yeah! First and foremost. You are helping the students to get experience. I'm the students do a wonderful job! I have arthritis big time and I'm always over working myself this place has been my salvation. They opened sometime in the 80's. I met the owner Paula. There are 3 locations between San Diego and Orange County. State Certified Nationally Accredited. Call for an appointment they are quite flexible. Great students. I enjoy meeting each one and learning about massage too! 2 massages for $45. Be sure to leave a tip. As this is a training hour for them. They work hard.

Wow ! What an amazing experience at such an affordable price. This was my first time EVER getting a massage and now I'm hooked! The students there are ver professional and care about your comfort level and privacy. They focused on the areas that I mentioned were a concern. I carry most of my stress in my lower back and neck
But after my massage, left feeling relaxed and free from discomfort . I will definitely be returning.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

I am a current student and all I can say is that this school changed my life. I came here to help my building career in physical therapy and I decided to try the HHP and now I'm forever grateful I did.
I only wanted to do athletic massage at first, but after choosing classes that I thought I would have interest in, I realized this was meant to be. Going in, I had a very western medicine mentality and that quickly changed. Between the tons of information you learn, the loving teachers/staff and events that happen with the school, you learn how to not only be an amazing practitioner, but how to really put a piece of yourself in everything you do and give your loving energy to others.
I'm very glad to be apart of this school, this learning process of all the different modalities, my personal self growth, and most of all, the loving family of healing hands!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
