Previously I knew this place as China Super Buffet. Since then it's more like "stupor" buffet, because you'd have to be in a drunken stupor to think this that is a decent Chinese buffet.
Possibly the sole highlight was the kim chee, whatever company they bought jars of it from did a decent job.
As with most such places, a whole salmon filet was laid out under heat lamps, but it was such a slow Sunday afternoon that by then it was clearly dried out, firm, and far overcooked, All their shrimp on the buffet, too, was extremely overcooked thanks to slow turnover under the heat lamps, Their sushi was on ice and cold, but the fillings were meager and the accompanying Tom Yum sauce alongside the sushi smelled... off.
Their hot and sour soup was hot temperature-wise but neither hot nor sour flavor wise, instead watery and bland. I was able to improvise a decent soup by mixing some egg drop with some of the won ton soup (a bit concentrated thanks to having sat there and evaporated from the heat for seemingly hours with only pitiful little bits of dumpling drifting in it) and some mushrooms off the bar.
Avoided the dessert bar so I can't speak to that, and the ice cream "trough" that necessitated people almost having to dunk their head completely in to be able to scrape some out was completely unappealing. They have a hibachi aka Mongolian BBQ type setup, but the raw ingredients were few and unappealing, I didn't try it.
When they came out fresh, the deep-fried sesame rice / red bean paste balls were decent. The veggies, General Tso's chicken, beef, and the fatty pork chops were okay but not great. When it's a slow afternoon they should consider rotating the hot stuff more often, smaller portions are gonna inevitably dry out more quickly, and they not only won't make money but won't make loyal customers. Their staff did occasionally stir stuff up, but that only prolonged the inevitable.
Fortune cookie said something to the effect that it takes happiness to be successful. Given the sad food and the dull-eyed, sad-looking staff, it seems pretty clear success has jumped ship and left mediocrity in the wheelhouse to steer.
I and my upset stomach have diner's remorse from this experience.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Xiao J.Raleigh, NC52Jul 22, 2018
I never wrote review on Yelp before. I did this one just for the experience I had here three years ago. Why I waited three years? Because I live close and drive pass this place about everyday. I relived the trauma every single time!

5 starts for sure! I was surprised by some negative reviews. I visited this place in may 2012 and it was okay-ish chinese buffet back then. But they have remodeled now and I dont know any other chinese buffet in gainesville that can compete with this.
First of all, you do not go to all you can eat chinese buffet for gourmet food. It's a place for students on tight budget who want to eat more for less. And this place goes way beyond that. Not only the food is cheap ($8 for weekday lunch buffet) but it has a lot of variety including some exotic stuff like creyfish, octopus salad, clams, crab salad etc. A good sushi bar is added bonus. For all those who dont care about sea food, there is plenty of chicken, pork, noodles and fried rice (and pizza too. I actually saw a person eating 3 slices of pizza) Then there is a dessert counter with some pastries and ice cream. Nothing for vegetarians though. Sorry.
No problems about cleanliness or service.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Liz V.Aurora, CO10413011Sep 10, 2016
Avoid like the plague! It smells bad upon entering, the staff is not friendly, it's not clean, and anything labeled as pork or beef is totally fatty and inedible. I spit out bites of four different things before realizing I just wasted about $10. It's disgusting. I went through a drive-thru Captain D's on my drive back to Jacksonville, and it was light years tastier than anything that I could have tried to swallow at this place.

Mid range buffet. Service is usually very good. However food is somtimes off ( General Tso chicken is not supposed to have jalapenos in it, Last few visits food dishes were mostly empty.
Good value for the priceHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aaron S.Jacksonville, FL667687Apr 18, 2015
So, we were passing through Gainesville and were in the mood for Chinese and figured we would try this place out as it had decent reviews!
Well, let me start out by saying I didn't enjoy one single bit of this meal! It was 7:30 on Saturday and nothing tastes fresh. All of the seafood on the bar literally tastes like they let it sit and thaw on the counter for hours before cooking!
I ate 1 piece of tuna sashimi and now I'm actually worried that I may get sick.
Extremely upset that we spent money to eat at this place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kim L.Gainesville, FL1602Nov 18, 2014
Ummmm...just don't.
The food is not very good, and some of it was just cold. It was 7pm on a weeknight and there were several tables in the place with customers. But they had several empty trays on the buffet. And we sat there for 30 minutes. Still no refilling of the buffet items. The hibachi guy packed up and left at 7:15pm. I was unaware that this is a closing time. But hey I guess this is Florida so maybe the average busy time is a lot earlier than where I moved from.
And to top it all off, there was an odd and slightly putrid smell coming from the sushi area. So for heaven's sake do not eat that. While you're at it just don't eat at this place. I don't know how they're still open if this is their typical practice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Pierre A.Gainesville, FL1424118Oct 5, 2014
The wide variety is good to sample many different flavors and in mixed combinations. Plenty of vegetables, sea food, and meat/poultry.
Sushi is decent quality and about ten different types to choose from at all times. I would not personally go just for sushi but during a buffet of many dishes the sushi is a refreshing compliment.
With regards to atmosphere... Clean, bright and open space. Much better than previous Buisness in many ways. Glad I gave them a try.
I took my kids once and they really enjoyed it! Lol not sure if it's because we never took them to a buffet before but they really tried so many different exotic dishes. They can't wait to go back.
3-1/2 stars till next visit and it will go to four if they are consistent.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jamie I.St. Augustine, FL01Apr 15, 2017
I wish I could leave negative stars. absolutely horrible. I had to pay dinner prices 2 minutes before dinner started. and it was cold and and had sit there the whole time I waited for them to bring anything for dinner the left over lunch stuff was just sitting there mostly empty when they did bring new stuff out I guess for dinner it had sat in the back so long it was also cold and disgusting. the sushi sat there the whole time untouched and not fresh I couldn't get anyone to come to the hibachi to help me. absolutely horrible.

Nice little place on South 13. Me and my companion went in and there weren't many customers. Majority of the dining area staff was sitting in the first booth with their children. The food was typical. Nothing really stood out. Just another Asian buffet for $10.
