Family Book Shop

My daughters definition of a good time is to go to the "cat" library to try to find the cat within the isle of the book shelves. With that being said, if you love cats and books you will love this place! With such a large variety of books, there is something for everyone. I've spent most of my time in the child's section seeing since this has become my daughters favorite place to visit. She is a huge comic novel reader and has found something every time. They offer new and used books. They have always been very helpful anytime we have questions or are looking for anything specific. I love that deland has a family owned bookstore so I love to support them.

Needed some used books and decided to check the place out. They are super friendly, helpful, and have a huge selection! When you first walk in it looks like one medium sized room but then you see it's several rooms. The used book prices are very reasonable. I will definitely be coming back.

Great little second hand bookshop! Clean, bright, spacious, very logically arranged. Owner and staff were quite friendly. I didn't get to browse the entire store in the time I stopped in, but they had a nice selection of photography books--not huge, but considerably better and more interesting than many similarly-sized places I've seen--at very reasonable prices. I snagged a couple, and am looking to go back soon to explore more of the store. Very, very nice place for a city of this size.

By the way, at least one of the reviews below describes the shop as "dingy." It may have been back then, but the current owners told me they've put in a lot of work to renovate the place and trust me, it has paid off. I visited the store four or five years back (I've only been in twice) and on my most recent visit the place has been entirely redone from that time. As I mentioned above, the place is *very* attractive, comfortable and well-organized now.

I've been searching for a bookstore like this since I moved to Florida a year and a half ago and I finally found it! The staff is friendly and very helpful here they guided my husband through the huge store to help us find exactly what we needed.

The prices can't be beat and the selection leaves little to be desired in fact my husband was able to find not one, but three books he had been searching for for years!

If you're looking for a great bookstore in Central Florida, look no further!

Wish we could have spent more time here, but me and hubby were driving north from Orlando. Nice selection, large selection, and worthy of a good browsing session (if you have time!). The rooms of books reminded me of Chamblin Book Mine and had the same thoughtful curation of their collections. Definitely worth your time if you are a book-lover!

We have been coming to this shop for years, whenever we're in the area and it is always great! I always find what I'm looking for, or find myself hooked by books I hadn't found before!
The cat is wonderful and friendly and just right for a bookstore, the employees are also friendly and nice to talk to as you tear yourself away.

I go out of my way to go to the Family Bookstore. Apparently under new management, but friendly service hasn't changed. I can typically find what I'm looking for and there are always new shelves to explore. A used book lovers dream!

One of my favorite bookshops in all de land! ;). I always make it a point to stop by here when I'm visiting Florida! They have great deals on used books, and this place is huge! They have every genre you could want, mostly organized very well. They do have a minimum if you want to use a card, but that's most smaller businesses, so bring cash if you think you might only buy one or two books! They all have prices in the front cover, and if there is no price written, I believe they only charge 50 cents! Woohoo!

Well-loved describes this store that sells new and used books. They truly are a family book store and in the age of Amazon, its nice to see places like this one still exist.

They have a limited selection of new items, most are in their children's section, but they are always able to order items for you as well. They also have a wide selection of new magazines and periodicals and boutique of specialty coloring books, bookmarks, and bumper stickers. They mainly do a brisk business of buying and selling used books, and that takes up the better part of 2/3rds of the store.

If you need a book for required reading in school, this would be one of the first places I would check. Most of their used books sell for 1/2 of the list price and they are always in good condition. They also have a wide selection of paperback fiction. They take trade in books at 25% of the list price for most items and you can obtain a running account of credit to spend in their store. The non-fiction items are sorted by subject, similar to how a library would organize them.

The inside of the store is a little dingy, especially in their used-book section. The carpeting is basically remnants layered over one another and isn't terribly clean. They do have cute little cartoons and quotes on the end of each shelving stack which makes browsing fun! My only other qualm is that they seem to take in a lot of old and seemingly outdated books in the non-fiction section, making browsing for a craft book or a cookbook somewhat difficult if you're looking for something printed after 2000. However, if you are the sort that likes to browse, hoping to stumble on a hidden gem in the stacks, you will find this place to be your haven!

As an aside, they have two cats in the store, Simon and Schuster, that are very affectionate! This is a lot of fun for someone like me, but if you have severe cat allergies, you may want to steer clear.
