We took the North End city wine tour at 2 pm on a Saturday with Lisa. There were 10 in the group, a perfect size for chatting and mingling. The tour consisted of three stops including 2 restaurants and 1 wine store. We enjoyed 2 moderately priced ($25) wines at each stop for a total of 6 1-oz pours in total. The tour ended around 4 pm.
At our meeting point, the Aragosta Bistro on the far side of the North End, we enjoyed a prosecco and a Soave Classico also with some Italian cheeses and salumis. After about 45 minutes we headed off to a small Italian restaurant where we tasted a white Greco and a Tuscan Sangiovese. Here we also had some salad and margarita pizza. Our final stop was a great wine store owned by Dan who told us more about wine and was far more engaging than our guide Lisa. We got to taste a chianti and valpolocello-decent quality wines.
It was a fun was to spend a couple of hours on an unseasonably warm January day. Having taken a number of these tours in other cities there are three key things for me that warrant the stars (1) people in the group -4stars (2) quality of food/beverages-3 stars (good but nothing special) and (3) guide-had some knowledge but just not a great enthusiastic host-only 2 stars for Lisa, regrettably.
Fun and worth doing but not outstandingHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stacia G.Framingham, MA1341349May 8, 2018
My girlfriends and I did the South Boston wine tour and we really enjoyed it! We actually learned a thing or two around wine and had fun while doing it!
It would be great if they could add in one more stop or partner with the two restaurants to do some sort of appetizer options for a additional cost.
Overall, a great time! Would recommend!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica N.South Burlington, VT21Feb 11, 2019
I was having a hard time figuring out what to do with the girls for my sister's surprise bachelorette party and I happened to stubble upon city wine tours and it was an absolutely wonderful time! They were very accommodating with making the arrangements because let's not kid ourselves, trying to get a group of girls on the same page can be difficult sometimes. But even our host was amazing, very friendly, and knowledgeable! All the girls loved it and had an amazing time! My sister couldn't have been happier!
I definitely would strongly recommend this for anyone weather you're looking for a fun day with the friends and to learn some new, cool things about wine or celebrate a new chapter in your best friend's life!
Thank you for an unforgettable experience and memory!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adam R.Marlborough, MA25494Jan 30, 2017
Had a great time walking around the north end an popping into a couple restaurants. Fiona, our tour guide, really made the tour. She was incredibly knowledgable, friendly, and I learned a ton about wine from making it to drinking it. I'd highly recommend taking this tour.
I would have liked if the wines that were selected were specific pairings with the dishes we had, and if there had been a little more specific information about each bottle of wine.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alexandra Z.Boston, MA0141May 6, 2017
First off, let me say their customer service is fantastic. They honored 2-year-old gift vouchers for myself and my husband and got us on a tour that same weekend. We went on the North End 2pm tour.
Also, our guide was well-informed and very nice. However, he did seem unprepared to have so many in his group... not sure if because we added late?
I took off two stars for two reasons.
Firstly, value - the tour group was large (12 people) and I did not feel that we quite got our money's worth. We split 3 bottles of wine at each of the 2 locations between 12 people, which was quite a small pour. This would have been more understandable for pricier wines, but I estimate these wines were mostly between 13-35$ per bottle. For the price of 2 vouchers we could have probably purchased most of those bottles and had them at home.
Additionally, the first stop in our tour was in a hotel lobby and not inside the restaurant... it was very noisy, the restaurant was moving crates into the restaurant, people were checking into the hotel, and a child was throwing a fit loudly... it was not a very relaxing tasting environment. The second stop (a restaurant called Scopa) was lovely and had FANTASTIC pizza, highlight of the tour. But the highlight really should have been the wine... and though the wine was good, I didn't have any that I would really go out of my way to buy again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ann M.Boston, MA06Jun 7, 2018

This is a really fun time, although I was hoping they would serve better wines than $8 to $14 bottles for the price of admission.

My wife and I took one of City Wine Tours' tours of the North End. I wasn't sure what to expect, but we had an absolute blast.
Our guide was incredibly knowledgable about the wines, and also was extremely personable. We went to three different restaurants, all with excellent food that was served with the wine. In the restaurants, everything was prepared ahead of time, so we definitely felt a bit like VIPs.
By the end, most people were a bit tipsy, and we were really bonding with the other people on the tour. It was a fun and memorable experience and we'll hopefully do it again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauren K.Erie, PA984May 2, 2017
I scheduled a wine tour in Boston for the North End for me and five others to take part in as part of a bachelorette weekend. Our Wine ambassador was Fiona and she was incredibly knowledgeable and patient with each of us who are all at varying levels of wine education. We had three wines at our starting point along with a charcuterie board. We walked to a second destination in the North End where we had three more wines along with a brick oven pizza and salad which also paired very well with our selected wines.
It is definitely something I would consider doing again if and when I'm back in the Boston area!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rusty B.CO, CO326Nov 6, 2017
We did the South End tour over the weekend. We had gotten the tour as a gift for our wedding. I give it three stars since it was paid for by someone else. Had it not been, it would have received two. It's $70 per person and you receive six small pours at two restaurants, along with two plates of small bites. For $140, we could have bought several very nice bottles of wine, or gone out to a decent dinner. The value is not there for me.
