If you are looking for a law firm to help you with disability look no further. I tried to get disability on my own and it was difficult and frustrating. I found Bemis Roach and Reed online and took a chance. It was the best decision. It took a few years, but thanks to Amber Woods and David Messenger I won my case. Also when it was all said and done their cost was extremely reasonable and affordable.

When my husband became disabled, we utilized the services of both Mr Roach, and Mr Reed to get his case fully settled. They and their staff went above and beyond to ensure that my husband's case was resolved positively. I highly recommend them.

My grandson has a mental illness that prevents him from obtaining and keeping a job, as well as fully functioning in daily life. We had applied for disability twice, and were denied. I was very distraught when I reached out to the law firm of Bemis, Roach, and Reed. Mr. Reed responded very quickly after reaching out to the firm, and began work on an appeal for my grandson immediately. Throughout the process, everyone answered all of our questions, were patient, kind, and understanding . We did win the appeal and had all of our questions answered.
I highly recommend this law firm.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David L.Dallas, TX285Sep 12, 2022
I am forever grateful to the attorneys and staff at Bemis, Roach, and Reed. They were the only reason that I was able to receive my Social Security benefits. They were also sensitive to the nature of my claims. This work all came at a very stressful time in my life and the entire staff gave me a sense of calmness to get through the process. Amber Wooten was so encouraging and helped arrange everything from paperwork to appointments with the attorneys. I cannot say enough to them or about them to express my deep gratitude for their work.

This was an absolutely ridiculous experience. I sent a message through the website portal (which I have requested a copy of, but they refuse to send) explaining that we wanted to talk to someone about getting my father on disability for alcoholic dementia. I received a message from an Intake Specialist which stated "The SSA does not recognize drug-induced mental health conditions as disabling." This is patently wrong and I cannot believe they are spreading this disinformation to people. It is absolutely true that you can get disability benefits for brain damage and emotional damage caused by alcohol or drug abuse. Like, just google it.
I responded back, challenging this assertion, and the intake specialist took A WEEK to respond to me. The intake specialist tried to walk her claim back, (saying that she should have included additional information/exceptions--that surprise, surprise, do probably apply to my case) and made the excuse that it took a week because she had to check with the legal team. Not only is this a ridiculous excuse for the discourteous delay (You can't send an email letting me know that you're going to check and get back with me?), but this flies in the fact of the entire reason this place probably has an intake specialist. You're having the intake specialist pass on legal advice from your lawyers now?
Even worse, this person was so rude and dismissive. She offered to give us a list of medical resources (I came to you for an appointment with a lawyer, NOT medical resources) and after I expressed my displeasure with the entire experience, said "I'm sorry you're having such a struggle..." (Is this the intake specialist version of "bless your heart"? YOU appear to be the one struggling to do your job and YOU are the one causing the struggle.)
I got this reference from another lawyer and from The University of Texas School of Law so I will definitely be informing both places of how terrible this experience was. It is clear that they only want to take on easy cases, not help people that may have more difficult cases. I can't believe these people weren't even willing to set me up with a consultation. They are not at all in touch with their community or willing to help people in need. And the fact that it took this long to get an answer even at the OUTSET of the case (even BEFORE they took my money) is not a good sign. I would like to remind everyone that the number one complaint about lawyers in this state is that they do not respond to their clients in a timely fashion. This firm does not appear to be very concerned about that issue.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Marla,
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the firm. I reviewed the exchange you had with our intake and think I see the disconnect. You said in your intake inquiry that your father's condition "had not been diagnosed" because he does not have health insurance.
When Social Security reviews a claim involving drug addiction or alcoholism (DAA), it does so by working through established rules and guidelines. You are right, there is no question that DAA can cause substance-induced dementia. Unfortunately, Social Security won't take your word for it. Social Security needs to see the diagnosis in a medical record. It also needs sufficient medical documentation to establish the condition is disabling.
Not all mental disorders are permanent in DAA cases. Discontinuing drug or alcohol use often results in significantly improved symptoms. The patient resumes a normal life. That's why Social Security has rules for determining if the DAA is "material" to the disability. Basically, if the claimant meets the definition of disability even without DAA, the DAA is not "material," and the claim can be approved.
Without treatment and an opinion from a healthcare provider on your father's condition and diagnosis, you are in a difficult spot. We take and win lots of tough cases, but even in tough cases, we have to have a confirmed medical diagnosis.
The firm should have responded to you faster and with better information. I invite you to call back and ask for me. We may not be able to take your father on as a client, but I am sure you will get the information you need to make decisions about how to proceed.
Sincerely,
Greg Reed, Partner - Mary L.Burleson, TX8212Sep 28, 2018
I contacted this office in March 2016 after I researched on the internet with the office having good reviews. I had to appeal a decision made by the insurance company regarding my LTD benefits from my employer. After some confusion on what to do, I had only 2 weeks left to do the appeal and Lonnie Roach from this office contacted me right away. Lonnie right away took action for me.
Everyone in the office working with Lonnie Roach did a great job of communicating with me by email during the last two years. After additional surgery was performed last year, Lonnie helped me to get my LTD benefits extended. Finally, a few months ago, Lonnie at his suggestion filed a lawsuit claim, which was settled with my employer's LTD insurance company. Lonnie helped ease my worries and improved my family's quality of life. I truly recommend Lonnie Roach and his office as your attorney.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Josh W.Pflugerville, TX341Apr 26, 2019
Greg Reed impressed my family and I when we first met with him and he continued to impress me throughout the process. He is very good at what he does and knew exactly what to do. He was able to help with my social security case and with my private disability insurance case.

I chose Bemis, Roach, and Reed to represent me during my Social Security case, and I cannot express what a fantastic choice it was. Mr. Reed, and his associates, were incredibly knowledgable and answered all the questions I had along the way in a timely manner. It can be an overwhelming process, but having Mr. Reed represent me, really took the anxiety and uncertainty out of the process.

We met w/ Counselor Bemis and he told us our case would be an uphill battle but the goal was to win appeal before going to a hearing....that's exactly what happened. I can't give enough credit to their entire team. They shoot straight and what impressed me was their knowledge and experience in dealing with the red tape mess. I wish more people were as good as these folks! I would give them 6 stars if I could.
