The employees at Avenues Pet Clinic were very sweet and gentle with our babies while giving them their vaccinations. They were exceptionally patient with our feisty kitten Thank you all!

Avoid this clinic if you have a sick animal! We lost our 10 year old dog way too soon and feel this vets inexperience and lack of care contributed. We had 3 different vets from Avenues working with our dog Pancho. Then we were consistently with Dr. Jones.

This whole process was a nightmare. We felt the whole time none of the vets new what was wrong with our dog. By the 3 visit they said it was immune mediated anemia.
My spouse and I have come to the conclusion (and suspected throughout the treatment) that Dr. Jones over prescribed our 10 year old dog with prednisone. To the point of causing him to develop cushings disease.

How can a vet sit there and claim that it is all part of the side effects of prednisone when a dog goes from walking perfectly fine to barely walking and standing up. Pancho developed a significant curve in his spine in less than a month. On the last 2-3 visits, I expressed how concerned we were.
On the last visit, I couldn't even get Pancho in the vet without some of the other staff helping me carry him out of my car. He went from 110lbs to 100lbs and this was devastating.

I tried and wanted to have confidence and trust in this vet. But after inside, Dr. Jones had no concern at all about our beloved Pancho. She acted like it was normal and routine. I had been balling all morning worried about Pancho because I knew deep down something wasn't right. I even asked Dr. Jones "so you're telling me this will all reverse after Pancho gets off the prednisone?" She said "yes." Also, she prescribed him two more medications that day! Which is complete B.S. Dr. Jones had no concern that the dog under her care went from normal walking to barely being able to walk - in less than a month! Pancho's stomach was bloated and sagging. He lost noticeably large amount of muscle/weight in his back legs and was boney in his spine.

The excessive dose of prednisone raised his cortisol levels and killed him in a month. Poor Pancho of only 10 passed away on Friday. His appointment was that Monday.

(Here comes the sarcasm) Thank you Avenue's for being so empathetic. Thank you for NEVER reaching out to us after we lost Pancho or provide any condolences- even after cancelling his next check up because he had passed!

I would stay far away from this place. Use at your own risk.

I do freight runs. My road dog got into something bad. Don't know what. Most likely Called for emergency services today. Was promised a 20 min call back. 45 min go by. Called again. Was told the on call got the message. Will resend. 15 min later the service calls and tells me to call the poison hotline.
I guess a blood pooping dog isn't important enough for a call back or a emergency Sunday appt. Will NEVER recommend someone so cold and uncaring. Horrible service. Should not be in this field - period!!

Extremely unprofessional, and they will bill you before even looking at your pets. We brought my 3 year old cattle dog in for a cracked toenail to his nerve, and they wanted to put him under anesthesia and charge us hundreds. Thankfully we were able to get the supplies and bandages from Petco for a literal fraction of what they were asking. We were given a statement IN THE LOBBY! Before ever talking to a vet or nurse.

I called them to see if they would take my St Bernard in as an emergency as he wasn't able to stand without assistance and he was urinating everywhere. I called when they opened at 7 a.m. I explained that my dog was a St. Bernard and weighed approximately 155 to 160 pounds will someone be able to assist me in getting him out of the vehicle. The receptionist put me on hold came back and said yes I can bring him in. After 2 hours and 2 neighbors and a forklift to help me lift my dog into the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee, I got to the clinic. Three young girls came out of the clinic I told them he is huge and is hard to pick up. One girl told me she lifted weights, she can do it. The look on their faces when I opened up the hatch and saw him. They said they didn't even have a gurney. The girl then asks me to park in the back where they get deliveries because it would be easier to carry him in that way. I pulled up opened the hatch, waited about 10 minutes and the vet comes out, asked me if my dog had been there before I said I think so, he said "no, we've only seen your other dog" since we are renovating we cannot acommadate your dog, he suggests I take the dog to another local vet or take him 45 minutes to Loveland, Colorado oh and good luck. I gave the girl all of the information on the size of my dog and she told me I can still bring him in then I am refused. Then I'm thinking to myself, what if the other place won't take him, I can't get my dog out of my car!!!! After bawling I was able to get him into another vet. I will not be bringing my other dog there even though I gave them close to $2,000 for surgery. The vet wouldn't even glance at my dog. He was dehydrated and his kidneys are inflamed. Their website says how much there care about pets and will do anything to help. BS! I do not recommend this clinic.

Dr. Jones and the staff at Avenues has taken such great care of all of our pets. She helped us with our beloved Shasta during her last days and now has cared for our new puppy. Thank you for your excellent care!

I am writing to warn you all about Avenues Pet Clinic. We brought our pregnant pup in as she was having difficulties giving birth. They performed a C-Section and spayed her in the morning. After surgery they called stated all went well and to pick her up at 5 pm. My wife shows up and they bring out the puppies. My wife then waited for another 10 to 15 minutes for them to bring out Happy. They then brought my wife into a room with Happy and stated she was in shock, looked horrible. I'm guessing she wasn't monitored for the hours between surgery and pick up, they were surprised that she was in shock. My wife left and told them she would return at 7pm when they closed to figure out why Happy was in shock. When she arrived at 7pm she was given the options of leaving Happy at Avenues overnight, unsupervised, taking her home for constant supervision or taking her to a 24 hour clinic. My wife opted to take our dog home for supervision. In the 2 hours between 5 pm and 7 pm they stated they completed an ultrasound and found no internal bleeding (we don't believe this was actually done). They sent my wife home with our Happy, in distress. By the time they got home our dog wasn't moving, her gums were white and cold, and she was bleeding externally. My wife rushed to CSU Animal Hospital (highly recommended). They rushedto get her, and began working on her immediately. When my wife arrived at CSU Happy was completely limp and lifeless. After a bit, they came out letting us know she needed a blood transfusion, which we agreed to. They went back to helping our dog. After surgery was done, they let us know a few things. They found an 8 cm hematoma, the stitching was loose, ligatures were present but not tight. They also found green debris in the surgical site. My dogs condition was worsening at the clinic, which tells me that they didn't do a proper eval of her. If done, they would have called us and advised her condition and would have asked for consent for further surgery to figure it out. They didn't. If they did it could have prevented the trip to CSU. They didn't know a thing as they even said we could leave her there overnight unsupervised. If my wife selected this option our sweet girl would have passed by 10 pm. By Avenues releasing our girl it is evident the doctor did not have the proper knowledge and that they didn't know or didn't care about my dog's condition. The CSU vet said the ligatures could have been loose from movement, puppy feeding or sloppy surgery. We don't even know if the puppies were fed by Momma dog and seeing as how she was wobbly and lethargic when they brought her out at 5pm, I doubt her movement would have loosened them. During the follow up visit a vet told us it was most likely due to poor application of the ligatures. Then jat the 10 day check up we were told again that it was most likely that the vet had done a poor job on the ligatures and they have seen numerous poor outcomes from this clinic. Let's talk about the debris left in my dog. It was easy for the CSU vet to find and clean out the debris, why wasn't this done at Avenues? They will tell you it's all a risk of surgery and we did sign a disclosure. That is fine, but it's obvious with all that went wrong the surgery was botched and they didn't want to tell us. We called the vet clinic to discuss all that happened. The head vet denied any wrongdoing. Loose ligatures, debris and a huge amount of blood loss sound a bit more like poor, sloppy vet work to me. What bothers me even more is that she laughed when she hung up the phone, which tells me they really didn't care, had no compassion, empathy or any concern. I wonder if getting home to dinner that night was more important than my dog's life. In closing dog, appropriately named Happy needed 4 blood transfusions and 2 units of platelets and all ligatures cleaned up a tightened, as well as debris cleaned out of her wounds. You can make your own conclusions with the facts I presented. But I would warn you of visiting Avenues if you care about your pet.

Happy at CSU nursing for the first time

I really wish this place was as good as what it used to be. Family has been going here for years. But I do not think I'll be going back. Since most of the pre-construction staff are gone, the friendliness and amazing comforting feel has gone.

We've changed vets. When we first moved here, they were the best we'd found. However, within the last 4 visits, we got Dr. "Oh, Mom doesn't brush your teeth, does she?" Guilt-Trip Barker, Dr. "I'm going to rush your dog into the back for services you didn't request & give you attitude when you object" Smith & Dr. "We'll give it another 2 weeks (while your cat's condition & wellbeing deteriorate) & check again" Hartshorn & his assistant who aggressively criticized my gamer-enthusiast T-shirt. After spending $300+ for our cat to lose her ability to eat or drink while we "gave it another 2 weeks" & then losing her, we've decided to find another, more effective and pet-oriented (rather than profit-oriented) vet.

I have been a customer with Avenues Pet Clinic for a while. I do like Dr. Dorsett. However, I will not return to Avenue's after the treatment I received from Dr. Staples and the Management. I took my dog to Avenue's to remove a mass on his shoulder. Dr. Dorsett removed the mass and we ended up with a very large incision. We took great care with the wound, but we found that there was an opening in the middle of the incision. We took him in the next morning and were told that he would need to be taken back into surgery and re-staple the area. Ok. Understand.

Next, Dr. Staples told me the cost would be approximately $400. This after I just spend more than $1,200 for the surgery. I questioned the amount and why we would have to pay again. She said that it was our fault the it happened. Either we let him jump up on furniture or let him move around too much. I asked to speak with Dr. Dorsett about it and she said, "go ahead, but it won't change anything." I was floored. I was a captive patient and had no choice but to sign the paperwork.

I asked the receptionist to put a note on Dr. Dorsett's desk so that I could speak with her. I never received a call. Not one responded. I will not be returning. All they had to do was say, "the cost is this, but since you just spent a small fortune, we will discount it." But they would rather blame my and my family for causing the issue.
