For those craving delicious home-cooked meals, this spot hits the mark! While not frequent visitors, my partner and I find solace in their comforting dishes when the urge strikes. Opting for takeout, we relish in the warmth and flavor of each dish from the comfort of our home.

The food consistently arrives piping hot and expertly seasoned, fulfilling our cravings each time. The staff's warmth and personable demeanor add to the overall pleasant experience.

With an array of choices laid out before you, decision-making becomes a delightful task. Additionally, the presence of a security guard inside, who kindly hands you your food bag upon exit, adds a reassuring touch to the experience.

Everything was fire, from the food to the service. The price was good for amount of food you get.

Maybe 4.5 stars ONLY because it can be a challenge if you want to eat in. As a traveler I typically want to eat in and during my visit (party of 3) there was only a large booth open so we had to share it with a couple, and pressure from the dining room staff to eat quickly to accommodate others.

At any rate the food is definitely 5 stars!!! I had a 2-meat combo, which came with 3 sides: I opted for polish sausage, which was served sliced, and pork ribs, along with mac n cheese, collards and cabbage. My colleagues ordered the bbq chicken, beef tips with gravy over rice and smothered pork chops. I honestly don't know that I've ever had better soul food in all my travels, and the portions are immense! None of us could finish our meals so plenty to take home and enjoy. I will add this place to my hot list everytime I'm in Dallas!!

Beef Tips and rice thanksgiving style dressing with turkey gravy on top and collard greens, this was enough food for three people on one plate. It was so good and tender it tasted like good home cooking I can't wait to go back the people are friendly and treat you like family the building is older but clean

I had a long weekend in Dallas and right off the plane, I headed to Sweet Georgia Brown Homecooking. One of the good things about not being chi-chi about restaurants and cafes is that you can enjoy some of the best eating at any place that resembles a hole in the wall. My inner Mississippi was happy.

I ordered baked chicken, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese. The baked chicken was Grandma tasty. The sweet potatoes needed some crust because it was fitting for a pie. The collard greens were nicely seasoned and the macaroni and cheese was proper baked.

Seating on the inside was a bit weird. It seems like the spot is mostly carryout, but I sat at a community table with strangers and felt like old friends by the time they were laughing at how I devoured everything I ordered without complaint. I highly recommend Sweet Georgia Brown Homecooking. There is not pretense. Just damn good food.

I went here on a recommendation of a few of my friends in Dallas. I arrived and the line was out the door; took us about 25 minutes to order food. Not too much of an ambiance; it's a to-go restaurant.
The food portions are huge. Two people could easily eat one plate. They are a cashless restaurant which can be an inconvenience. I had the turkey wings, sweet potato's and rice. My sister had beef tips, mac and cheese and collard greens with sweet potato pie and pound cake with chocolate icing. Food was seasoned very well and was yummy! The 4/5 stars was only for the wait time. I feel if they had more staff working, the ease of getting in and out would've been a lot better

Been eating here since I was a kid!

You can NEVERRRRRRRR go wrong with ANY of the sides! I get a veggie plate and keep it pushing.

Its like a lunch counter sort of situation but food is ALWAYS hot.

Then you pay, then they give you food in a brown paper bag then you go next to the register for the lady to pack up your food in a bag, if you want hot sauce thats where they will have it and then
      You exit out the door!

      The end!

      Updated review

I want to update my review from April 2022. I recently went back to Sweet Georgia Brown's in February 2024. I give them five stars for the quality and freshness of the food now. It was 10 times better than the last time I was there.

I also noticed that the interior of the restaurant has been cleaned. Although that was not part of my review, I've read others who talked about it. So it's obvious that the owners and workers read the reviews and take them to heart.

I would recommend Sweet Georgia Brown's to anyone who wants some good soul food.

The service here was great! I only give 4 stars because the food wasn't as good as I hoped. Most things lacked seasoning and the bbq beef was too chewy. The sides were good though! Again I say, the customer service was 5 stars!
