K & J's Elegant Pastries

Really great place, REALLY great cake, but the customer service could use a serious attitude adjustment.

I ordered a cake for my mom's 80th birthday. I really wanted something special. Sure we could've gone to Costco, but this birthday was quite a landmark and we wanted something special.

I live in Los Angeles, and I could only go by what I find online. I'm blown away by how most of the bakers and caterers I called around that area to make this special day just had no sense of decent customer service, like not returning calls, or saying "Sorry, we can't do that." But luckily this place actually got back to me.

I placed the deposit, then when it came time to pay the balance they sent me a text but I was at a place with bad phone reception, so I asked if I could do it in an hour, and their response was, "Well we close at 7." I was on Pacific time so I had to do the math. Well, then why didn't they text me sooner?‍ Don't get me wrong, not all employees were like that. But the bad seeds kinda ruin it for the good employees.

When I arrived to AL, we picked the cake up at the Hoover location. This store and pastries would make anyone's eyes light up, milkshakes that would make any jaw drop. Long story short, the cake was perfect!! And it was so delicious!!! We got a basic vanilla cake (to make all our guests happy) and when I put some in a ziplock and brought it back to LA, my boyfriend was licking the bag and he doesn't even like vanilla cake.

So GREAT cake, exactly what I wanted, absolutely delicious!! But their customer service could use an attitude adjustment.

G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S!

After a very good meal at Eugene's yesterday, we took a little stroll around City Walk Bham. The skate park is always such an exciting and adventurous place to come and watch talent explode in front of you.

Out of the corner of my eyes I saw a neon sign and floods of people entering this tiny pastry shop. Knowing I needed to know what it was, I joined the crowd.

I had seen photos of this pastry shop all over my instagram, but could not believe what I was seeing. I know Birmingham has some of the most unique boutiques and specialty stores, but nothing compares to this one.

K&J Elegant Pastries screams and I mean SCREAMS posh, girly and down right elegance at its finest. They are well known for their outrageous milkshakes and of course their cupcakes too.

The inside is all decked out in everything pink. I do have to give them props, they picked a theme and went with it. Pink interior (walls), luxurious couches and seating areas with floral arrangements on every table. The decor on the walls are beautiful paintings of their own products too. Other than that there are also all sorts of articles on the wall from newspaper clippings and big achievements the business has made throughout the years.

From what I gathered by talking to the owners they started their business in Alabaster and then moved it to Birmingham. She also mentioned opening another location in Homewood coming soon. So be on the look out!!!

After looking around and gawking at all of these amazing articles and achievements they have made, I decided it would be a good idea to take something from them home. I had just eaten a pretty heavy meal over at Eugene's, but decided that if I took something home I would still support them and get the chance to not only experience the business in person by try something delectable from them too.

There were so many different flavors of cupcakes to choose from. But the one that stuck out to me the most was the hot chocolate cupcake. Since it is winter (well kind of), this would be a good place to start. I love anything and everything hot chocolate.

When I came home, I decided on taking a bite of the cupcake, I could not stop eating it. I was delicious. Perfectly moist (not dense at all), the cake was spongy (but not soggy either). It was down right perfect. Probably one of the best cupcakes I have ever eaten. On top of the cupcake had a marshmallow frosting and a few marshmallows too with chocolate sauce and a tiny paper straw too to add to the theme of it being a hot chocolate cupcake. If I did not scarf this cake down as fast as I did, I probably would have taken some pictures, but I will next time before I eat the entire thing.

If you have not had the chance to check out this business and meet the owners, you need to. They even have hot chocolate bomb bundles for the holidays. Wouldn't that make such the perfect gift? A hot chocolate bomb and a gift card for your special someone?

Super super super cute. Went to Birmingham and this was on our itinerary! The cupcakes were to die for. The strawberry cheesecake was my favorite. My baby girl loved the cake pop! I'll definitely recommend anyone that visit the city to stop by ! The owner was very sweet as well

Loved it! The crew was extremely friendly and definitely wanted to please us! They even helped us decide on what we should try. The location was super clean which is always a plus. And the strawberry cupcake was actually one of the best I have ever had. This was a great visit!

This place is in an odd area under the highway overpass (which seemed like it was under construction forever during my previous visits to the area). The ice cream is blue bell brand, and the cakes are many. I waited in line (the area was crowded) and took the fanciest one, which was a cupcake with what seemed like cheesecake on top. It was indulgent, but I'm still not quite sure that it or the other items were worth the price. Someone left beside me with a very interesting-looking custom cake. To me, the place seemed like a once in a while treat but not one that I would immediately need to go back to.

I visited the Ross Bridge location today. The facility is beautifully decorated. The business is very easy to get to. There is shared community parking so you may have a little walk depending. There were at least 12 cupcake flavors to choose from. All of your favorites plus creative cupcakes, like strawberry, lemon, and banoffee. the staff was very friendly. I definitely recommend them and will be back soon!

Can't miss with this one. All options are made well. Love the pound cake. All the cupcakes, just depends on what flavors you like. Looks cool, kid will love it.

I have been telling my husband about the Ultimate Sundaes at this place since my coworker shared his daughter's blog post several years ago. We were going to try to visit the location in Alabaster, but never made the opportunity.

So when the location in Ross Bridge opened, we were super excited. My husband went to pick up a Strawberry Shortcake Ultimate Sundae.

He walked in and was greeted by a friendly woman who let him know that the sundae would not be in the mason jar, since we were getting it to go. They grabbed a plastic to-go box and began filling it up. They added two warm slices of pound cake, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a scoop of strawberry ice cream, and then topped it with chunks of pound cake and freeze dried strawberry pieces. It filled up the entire box!!

We got it home and had dinner first. Then we dug right in.

It was definitely enough for two people to enjoy. The flavor was incredible, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We are going back to try the other two Ultimate Sundaes, but we will pace ourselves because it's a LOT of sweet goodness!!

Try it for yourself - you will NOT be disappointed!!

Have you ever smelled sweetness that is like an
Aphrodisiac? That about sums up K&J's as soon as you walk in the door. Cupcakes, cookies, ice cream and custom cakes as well. To add to the greatness of K&J's is the pleasantry of the Customer Service. I am also happy to put them in the World of Yelp. Keep it up.

*** Update***
I just finished the Lemon Cupcake and it was just as fabulous as it looked. What I noticed is the cake is flavorful and moist. The icing although looks like a lot displayed on top it is so creamy and not super sweet.
