This is a smaller location of the Yoga Center's main location located in St. Louis Park (see http://www.yelp.com/biz/yoga-center-minneapolis-minneapolis#hrid:q8WmDiQcTGbV76ymSW94ZQ) The downtown Minneapolis location in the wharehouse district is nice also, the main yoga room has a high ceiling and big bay window, and it's a beautiful space to do yoga. It'a a smaller location, than St Louis Park with only 2 classrooms, no dressing rooms/bathrooms but we are guided to use the bathrooms across the hall from the back door to get dress. It's just a bit of an inconvenience, just something to get used to. Since this is a branch location, they don't offer as much classes as the St. Louis Park location, but it's still great, with great teachers. I've only come to a handful of classes here, mostly Rachel who teaches Jivamukti yoga and Sara Jane's Vinyasa 3 classes (they teach at both locations). Jivamukti yoga is what Rachel specializes and she conducts majority of her classes at this downtown location.

Had an amazing experience at The Yoga Center of Minneapolis! As a native New Yorker who recently moved to San Francisco I haven't been able to find a yoga studio that compels me to practice and look forward to yoga classes. Had I known about The Yoga Center of Minneapolis I may have moved here instead! I had the opportunity to take two classes with Bridget while visiting Minneapolis on business; I wish I had time to take more! Bridget gave me direction that no teachers had before about what worked for my body to allow me to truly advance my practice. The center itself is beautiful and welcoming. I look forward to visiting Minneapolis again just to come back to the Yoga Center!

This is a great place to learn yoga and what the spiritual practice of Yoga is all about.
I had done fitness yoga prior to finding myself at a 6pm wed class here. Afterward, I felt amazing and knew I was hooked. Each teacher has a different style do you do have to experiment till you find a teacher that really works for you. The schedule has classes rated by chilli peppers so you 'll know how hard you can expect to work. I tell everyone here really works to be authentic and let their own true voice and teaching show. if you want a true yoga experience from chanting and drumming to deep soulful medication this is the place to come

BEAUTIFUL main room. Check out those pics... the large, rounded windows set the tone right.

I've taken some prenatal yoga classes here and the instructor Heather was great. She was very much into the poses for mamas of all stages and had a lovely soothing voice. During practice there was a rainbow! She paused class so we could all adore it from the big windows.

Other instructors I've had here were not as great. No music, not as knowledgable (they used notes), not very personable and just didn't bring the same comfort and relaxation to the class as wanted. On top of that, there was little challenge to the classes.

While I've only taken prenatal yoga classes here the class sizes were always small with only 2-3 people max. The instructors should have given more attention to the few individuals than they had. Perhaps the vinyasa classes and other workshops are better here. I did notice a few guest yogis to the Center that I've followed on podcasts which is pretty neato!

The Yoga Center of Minneapolis is absolutely divine; I have only been to the Minneapolis studio, not St. Louis Park, but I can assume that they are equally amazing.
The studio itself is serene and peaceful with not too much clutter, a beautiful layout, and two lovely rooms.
I have only attended the Jivamukti classes with Rachel, and was blown away by her teaching. The class was incredible; Rachel is a very inspiring, fun, and strong teacher, and the style of the class focuses on using yoga as a way of living, not simply a workout, which I love. Many classes I have been to rarely emphasize this aspect.

The only downfall I can point out is that they don't offer any awesome package deals; they offer 6 classes for $66 to students (with student ID), but even then that's a lot to put down for only 6 classes for a college student.. Even still, I strongly recommend you try this out. And if you are new to yoga, they offer free very beginner classes!

NB: I travel for work so have been to yoga studios all over the country and sampled all different styles.

I was in town for a few weeks and came upon Mary Beth's slow flow class and loved it! Don't equate slow with easy because she definitely led a challenging flow that created some heat. What was best, and often missing from classes, was the attention to breath and the moving meditation. Being at noon, it was consistently a small class (3-4 people) and she gave great individual attention. I look forward to work returning me to MLPS just so I can take her class again!
I took a Vinyasa class from another teacher which I didn't love as much (the order of the flow felt a little clunky) but it did still have a good spiritual element balance that I appreciated.

The studio itself is good. Pillars in the yoga room create an odd flow but it's the architecture of the warehouse and they've done their best making it feel comfortable. There are showers available although I didn't use them. $17 drop in is a little high and it would be nice if they did some newcomer deals.

I was in MPLS for work a few months ago and I still think about my happy experience at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis. As a yoga teacher myself, and from LA where there is more Yoga than Botox, I was surprised by how impressed I was with the warmth and welcome of this place to practice. I was particularly impressed with Mary Beth Hammerlund. She posses a grace and simplicity of teaching that consistently inspired me. And OH how I wish I could continue to take her classes back here at home! If you have the chance, get to her classes and take your practice to the next level. She not only knows how to take your deeper into yourself, but she is so caring and nurturing you'll wonder why everyone doesn't teach like her!

They took my money for their beginners yoga class. They called me on the day of the first class to reschedule the first class for one week later. I showed up for my first class and their was no class. The front desk confirmed they knew about pushing it back one week, but were dumbfounded about what happened to the class. Someone was supposed to call me with an explanation of what happened and whether or not the class was going to be held. Never received a call. Got my money back. Evidently, if not enough people sign up they just blow off the one or two people who did sign up.
