Applebee's Grill + Bar

I travel often for work and frequent Applebees throughout the northwest. The food is usually pretty consistent, the bartenders are always friendly and overall it's a decent experience. However tonight was a less than stellar one.

I dined at the Applebees at 10004 NE Halsey Street in Portland, Oregon and it started out ok - the bartender greeted me, asked what I was drinking and gave me a menu. She came back a few minutes later with my vodka soda, a glass of water and took my order: a bowl of tomato soup to start and a shrimp and parmesan sirloin for my entree. I ordered my steak medium along with the standard sides: broccoli and garlic mashed. This was at 6:20pm.

The soup came out within a few minutes, however it was barely warm and the physical bowl was cold to the touch... I thought everyone knows you don't put hot soup into a cold bowl but evidently someone did just that. But I made it work.

While I was eating my near-room temperature soup, I overhead the bartender telling the hostess that the kitchen was stacked up and to warn everyone that there was a 20-30 minute hold on food. This did not go over well for new guests arriving and numerous to-go orders. Many actual people and Uber eats drivers exchanged words and voiced their frustrations with the staff over the delay. One woman even walked out without waiting for her order.

Since I was in no hurry, I wasn't stressed. I continued to watch football and ordered a second drink. And then I waited.

Around 7:10pm my food came out. My steak was cooked to medium - zero complaints there. But the actual temperature of the steak was tepid at best and both my broccoli and mashed were cold to the touch.

I considered sending them back but after waiting nearly an hour and knowing the kitchen was still behind, I again made it work because I wasn't in a hurry but I was actually very hungry after waiting so long.

When it came time to pay my bill, I debated complaining about the temperature of my food but decided not to since the staff was already dealing with other guests' issues with the kitchen. But then the bartender used the gaming system/tablet thing to process my bill. After paying my bill, it asked me to fill out a survey.

I simply stated that my food was lukewarm so they'd have some feedback but now that I am back at my hotel and reflecting on my experience, I wish I had complained and sent all of my food back, instead requesting that it be served to me hot and fresh.

All of this said, I will continue to dine at Applebees when on the road but I doubt I'll give this location another attempt. I get that everyone has a bad day from time to time but this was a total fail when it comes to food temp and that kind of makes or breaks the meal...

Steaks were over cooked , service wS very slow took along time to get our food appetizers came out with our meal . Chips for our dip tasted horrible, bathroom was very slippery I am handicapped and almost fell.

It definitely wasn't as good as I wished, servers were super slow, there was a person at the next table who was talking about porn.. the place was a bit run down, walls looked cracked. And the food was not worth the 45 minute wait.

I preferred beef nachos to go. With a side of queso & chips. Picked up (wasn't late) went right out to car to eat and everything was cold. Nachos had cold grated cheese. Nothing was even warm. When you picked up a chip all the beef and cheese fell off because it was cold. Very very disappointing

16 minutes waiting on a pickup without anything more than "I don't know why it's taking so long." Rude to other drivers and no better with customers picking up their own orders. Manager gossiping and complaining to other employees about guests unhappy with their food.

Second time they've been late and rude to me as a driver and the two times I've gotten food here it's been soggy, cold and entirely disappointing to the point that I haven't been back to even spend the rest of a gift card here.

They can't even pull down contradictory signage on their doors.

I won't be back and I'd recommend not wasting money or time on their poor food and worse service.

It's a Applebee's you have to know what to expect do you haven't been there really you could look at it and really know what you're going to get. Now we had a gift card sitting around for a good eight years so to go in for Halloween because they're doing a super good 2 free kids meal for any adult item purchased... so we went and got a burger steak woman great and four kids meals that they absolutely loved. Now the staff is always great I think I have to say our server arts was amazing. The burger was good I have no complaints ever been Applebee's burgers do not horribly over priced it come with a good side and they cook them not overdone...

Let's be honest if you don't have dietary restrictions really no point in getting a steak here it's not gonna be what you're looking for honestly though it wasn't half bad and extra dollar do you have a dozen fried shrimp that the table enjoyed.

The kids all of the kids meals the burgers really look good and there was zero complaints from any of the children which is a rare occurrence for them to all agree on liking one place.

As per usual for fast food or a big box stores like this I'm reviewing the location mostly because everyone heard of this place everyone knows what to expect and more how does this location compare and I think it's a good location so three stars for the food quality bang for your buck and another star for good location service

We arrived at 5:15 on a Wednesday. Strangely, we were asked to wait for 5 minutes before being seated. And the restaurant was empty.
We got seated in a booth near the window. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that it took 30 minutes for our server to ask us if we wanted to order food. We had already looked at the menu and put the menus aside to indicate we were ready to order. I don't think we would have been served at all if we hadn't gone up to the host to ask if we have a server assigned to us. So we ordered and got our food. Food was decent. What do you expect, it's Applebee's. Again, I am not exaggerating when I tell you the server never stopped back at our table. I was hoping to get some salad dressing as it seems. I had a zero on my salad. That's OK, I ended up eating it dry. The server did not show up again. I paid with the table thingy. Our bill was $59. Food ok, but Literally the worst service I've ever had.

On Sunday afternoon 15-20 wait with empty tables and booths people ahead of us and more going in to wait only seen three employees a host and maybe two wait people or a bartender. Not sure. This place has gone downhill.

Last night we went there for dinner. We came in at 545... there was a 15 minute wait due to them being short staffed.. maybe their dinner staff comes in at 6.. or maybe they were able to make some successful phone calls. The way everyone handled the rush was flawless. Everyone was genuinely happy working together. You could tell the manager was a great person and probably one the best bosses anyone has ever had. Our server didn't act at all annoyed that he had to punch in and get busy. This restaurant does not get noticed enough in our area.. the food was fantastic. The service was flawless.. and as a server for 10 years of my
Own life. If you're staff are happy. Your customers are happy.. Thank you for the experience!

Me and my friends came in. Had a 2inute wait very reasonable. The host lady was so nice. She told us our options and told us she'd get us sat as soon as possible. We chose to sit at bar since all 21+. Our bartender Jeff was amazing. He was quick to get us helped. He didn't mind our banter. Had nice jokes. Was an all around pleasant and great experience!
