Long time fan! I had been going to Tadu on Ellis for years so when I heard they opened a new location in Mission Bay I was excited to make my way over. It's SOOO much bigger than the first location with plenty of seating both inside and outside. They've also got up some really beautiful artwork. The vibe is casual and the food is delicious!
I walked over with two friends after watching a game at Chase Center and we were able to grab a table immediately. This time I ordered:
- Vegetarian Combination: my favorite dish on the menu. Each item is distinct and so flavorful. You can taste the authenticity. I could eat this for days.
- Chicken Tibs: delicious! the sautéed onions and jalapeños really set it off. I love eating the injera underneath that soaks up all the spices
- Sambussa: perfectly flaky crust stuffed with well seasoned lentils and the spicy tomato based dip is a perfect pairing.
I'll be back, of course. :)Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Excellent Ethiopian food without having to make the trek to Oakland.
Counter-service style mom-n-pop.
Large dining area could accommodate groups.
Gorgeous color photography on the walls brighten up the space and add ambiance.
They also carry a local (oakland-brewed) Ethiopian style beer that pairs well with the spicy fare.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

I was not disappointed! I ate some Ethiopian food technically for the first time today. I've had some before in the past, but only through my mom's co-worker who made a yellow rice dish with beef (I think). I didn't eat in, but rather picked up my food from a GrubHub order and didn't really take a good look around the place. But from what I saw, it was a clean and down-to-earth atmosphere. The people who worked at Tadu welcomed me in graciously, just for a pick-up order.
I got Chicken Tibs (cubed chicken in a spicy sauce) with Injera (Ethiopian flatbread which was chewy and sour) and Kik Alicha (split pea stew). The side was Sambusa (Ethiopian samosas with lentil beans inside). Since I've never really had serious Ethiopian food before, I had a spicy surprise, but I definitely could handle it. The Kik Alicha was a nice supplement to the spicy chicken. The Sambusas were decent and familiar since I've had samosas before.
The best thing about the meal was the Injera. I love eating bread, and this was a new favorite food of mine. I love the rubbery-soft texture that you can tear off, and as I was saying with the sour and chewy taste, it's something I keep thinking about way after I finished eating. I even had to look up how to pronounce it since I wanted to know more about how this bread was made.
I'd definitely come back to try out their other dishes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We ordered via UberEats. Maybe the portions are better when you dine in, because there was very little to no meat.
Chicken tibs: There were more vegetables than there was chicken.
Lamb Gomen: I could count how many pieces of lamb there were--4. The tiniest pieces, literally less than 1 inch in size. Drowning in collard greens.
The food also took a very long time to be made, over an hour long. It then took over 2 hours to receive our food since our driver had other deliveries. He gave us a Mexican Coke for free as an apology for the wait.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Business owner information

Really loved this Ethiopian restaurant! I hadn't had Ethiopian in a while and this restaurant satisfied my craving.
We ordered the Beef Sambussa as an appetizer and they were DELICIOUS. Super crispy and the sauce that comes with it was amazing. However, I do wish there was a bit more beef filling.
Next I had the beef tibs with beets with injera for the table. The beef was super tender and the sauce was truly chef's kiss. They also gave plenty of injera and the plate was a great portion size. I also want to say that the prices are very affordable considering the portion size.
I loved everything about the restaurant except for some of the service and ambiance. They served our appetizers in a plastic container but our mains on a plate which was a little confusing and the table was a little dirty.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I was very excited to try this place, as the reviews were great and it's been a while since I've had Ethiopian food, but unfortunately, this did not really hit the spot.
One of my favorite dishes I get at my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in NYC is the special kifto, so I was very excited to try it here. We ordered it medium-rare, but it was not really what I was expecting. It was more cooked than I've had it in NYC and it was VERY spicy. My bf got the lamb tibs and while the lamb was tasty and nicely spiced, it was 80% onions and 20% lamb.
Generous portion of injera and I like the way the meals are plated together, but I wish the injera was warmer and that there was more of an assortment of sides, as I've seen at other Ethiopian restaurants.
Service is also on the slower side, as there was only one man working when we ate in. Unfortunately a miss for me! But maybe I've been blessed to have exceptionally delicious Ethiopian food in the past.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

If you are a fan of Ethiopian food (or just want to try it out), House of Tadu is a great place to visit for an authentic meal. Located in Mission Bay, the restaurant has a good amount of seating inside so I've usually been able to get a table pretty quickly when I've gone there. You order at the front here, and the food is pretty quick as I've gotten it in around 5-10 minutes.
Here I've gotten the chicken and lamb tibs, which essentially are flavorful pieces of meat infused with spices that are served with veggies and Injera, which is a spongy flatbread that goes well with the sauces in the meat. I definitely recommend trying this out, as the Ethiopian spices really bring out the flavor of the meats and it pairs well with the texture of the Injera. I also would try the Telba, which is a flaxseed smoothie with honey that also is delicious.
If you're ever in Mission Bay and want a place to eat, definitely check out Tadu Ethiopian!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

It pains me to write a bad review for a local small business, but I had an overall unfavorable experience here. I walked here from the SF Caltrain Station and wanted a quick meal. You order at the counter and you can sit anywhere you'd like. (Customer service wasn't great).
I ordered the Kitfo Wrap, which had ground beef, butter, and ayib wrapped in injera with a side salad. The concept was intriguing, but the flavors fell short for me. It tasted like it was seasoned like a burger. KEEP IN MIND: this is also REALLY SPICY!
The injera was great! Fluffy, sour, and good texture. However, there was so much more injera than kitfo! The kitfo was also overcooked. I was expecting medium rare, but I got well done. My partner also ordered Chicken Tibs, which were dry and overcooked.
We both had intense stomach aches after this meal :(Helpful 29Thanks 2Love this 13Oh no 7Business owner information

I had never tried Ethiopian food until this restaurant, and I'm happy to announce that it is delicious! I got the vegetarian combo with two extra injera on the side to share with two other people. It was a great portion- definitely enough for 3 people, and the injera were huge! The employee helped answer all of our questions and was kind when we asked for more injera. The inside is nice, but we got the combo as takeout to eat at the nearby park!
There are so many flavors and textures within the vegetarian combo- my favorite was the beetroot and chickpea portion. The flavors weren't like anything I've had before- they're sour, spicy, and hearty. The injera is fairly sour because it's made with sourdough starter, but I liked it a lot because I love sourdough. It's fun to eat with hands, and I would come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

My first time trying Ethiopian food! We came right when the opened on a Saturday afternoon, and it was empty! The seating area is spacious; you order at the front and pay, then they will bring it to your table. We shared a vegetarian and meal combo, and it was the perfect amount for 2 people and you can try everything.
If you love sour things like sourdough, you might love this!! The bread is sour in a good way, and pairs will pickled vegetable and stews.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information
