New River Miami, on the other side of the tracks, containing lots of old closed industrious warehouses, car shops, junk yards, buildings and the like.
One space called "Lot 6" has been transformed into an outdoor wonderland of sorts, with those string lights that offer that warm backyard vibe.
The folks at Downtown Miami restaurant Jaguar Sun, have held a pop up here at Lot 6 since last summer. Their take on a traditional steakhouse. Called Sunny's Someday Steakhouse, and it's a good take!
Reservations on Resy are a must if you want the prime time hours, although you can sneak in right at 5, though you might find it too bright and hot. 7:30pm was our time and it was a perfect transition from bright to night.
Seating is comprised of picnic tables for 2-4, round tables for larger. There may have been another configuration as well.
Rain was a concern of ours prior to visiting. The spot assured me they have covering. It did rain about 30 minutes before we arrived, there were protective tents over many of the tables. Some they kept open with no rain in the forecast for the rest of the evening. There are a few tables also that are under building cover as well. I would say that light rain or a passing shower would be tolerable, but a huge lighting downpour would be a tough sell that it would be as an enjoyable experience.
It didn't rain after we arrived and I secretly wished they could have removed our tent. On a clear night the open sky would have been another fabulous ambiance.
There is a beautiful tree with vines in the courtyard that serves as a great backdrop and a sound system playing just the right music, Stevie Wonder, Motown, live tracks, it was lively and really added to the mood but was not intrusive in our dining experience.
On to our cocktails. Jaguar Sun here is focused on their martini program. From traditional to not so traditional. We opted for "Porn Star" with house made vanilla vodka, fresh passionfruit, lime, and a champagne back. It actually came with a side drink of champagne. Loved it.
The menu offers a just a few choices, but do a few things excellent instead of many things okay I say!
The Parker rolls were warm, sweet, and fluffy served with butter that had a pool of honey. We needed a second round with our steaks.
They had a traditional Cesar salad on the menu, however my companion and I wanted to be more adventurous, we opted for the Tomato Salad with watermelon water, burnt serrano chili, basil. It was spicier than I anticipated but light and fresh as well.
Next was the Wagyu Beef Tartare served with grilled sourdough which is my weakness and a perfect yolk just made to be broken. It was great, you really don't need to do to much to make a great tartare the meat can speak for itself.
We selected a bottle of California pinot noir for our dinner service, I didn't catch the vineyard. They were out of the $30 bottles and we opted for the $65. The wine list is short but they seem to have all bases covered.
The restaurant touts itself as an open fire kitchen Entrée options were stuffed chicken, roasted whole snapper, chipotle pork chop, and four cuts of steak.
Since it was only two of us we decided to share the ribeye.
Our selected sides were fingerling potatoes with a leak butter, and Grilled Leeks with hazelnut, watermelon radish. The grilled leaks were served chilled, felt more like a salad, I would have preferred the server mentioning this, I might have opted for the blistered Shishitos.
Potatoes we're good. The ribeye was excellent, served medium rare by default. Pre sliced and topped with flaky salt. The sides could've been cardboard the steak was the star of the show. It's at that moment I felt If I never walk into a corporate Capital Grille or Morton's again I would be perfectly fine. Independent local restaurants can do it as good....no...better! Than the big boys.
There are 6 sauces you can choose to compliment the steak. We selected 3 Béarnaise was excellent, potato butter good and yes it's exactly that whipped potatoes and butter with almost a tapioca pudding consistency. The lobster cognac sauce seemed a little bit gimmicky, it could have been a lobster bisque. We did have another round of those Parker rolls and a rib eye steak sandwich was born. Yum.
We Remarkably saved room for the two dessert's on the menu. We tried the Someday Sundae: banana and espresso ice cream smoked caramel, rum whipped cream, cherry. A chef actually poured from the pot the smoked caramel, we wouldn't let him stop lol.
The Frozen Foie Gras was basically foie Gras Snow, with passionfruit, strawberry, and white chocolate. It was light and fluffy tasting. A fun desert just for the fact it's duck liver.
Service was great, from hostess, food runners to our server. We had many different table touches from staff checking on us at all times.
This was a great night out, it was expensive (I warned ya!) but certainly a great special occasion spot, treat for yourself!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 22, 2022
Where do I even begin, Sunny's Steakhouse is an absolute gem! Everything about it is just 10/10. From the ambiance to the service and of course the food, it was easily become one of my favorite spots to hang out and grab delicious food in Miami.
Here's what we ordered:
- Parker rolls (a must)
- Cesar salad...AMAZING!
- Steak tartare... one of my favorites in Miami
- Hanger steak, cooked to perfection
- Fingerling potatoes... YUM!
Everything they offer is made so well! I'm honestly amazed with how well they have perfected each dish and have created such a welcoming, homey environment. The tunes they play are another reason why I love it so much, just think jazzy, blues, and old school jams under the lit up tree... ahh my fave!Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - 127219645Feb 16, 2022
I enjoyed an amazing dinner at Sunny's. It was kind of hard to get a reservation so we ended up with a 5PM res and were the first ones there. Everyone was super friendly and made us feel welcome. As rain clouds rolled in, the staff got to work making sure all the uncovered seats got cover from the rain. They definitely took care of us and we did not get wet even though it was pouring.
I loved all the food! My favorites were the wagyu tartare and the hanger steak with potato butter. Honestly, the potato butter was soooo good! No complaints about any of the dishes though, I liked them all! The cocktails were also nice. I would definitely come back and would recommend this for anyone looking for a nice dinner!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 187188566Feb 7, 2022
So delicious! And amazingly friendly service from our host and server. We did drinks and apps, wagyu steak tartare & Parker rolls are a must order, shishito peppers and oysters are a good addition for a lighter balance. One thing I would have prefered were for the oyster sauces to come on the side, they each came pre-prepped. 2 of the 3 sauces were great, but the pineapple habanero wasn't my favorite, otherwise they were so fresh.
The frozen ghoul drink my friend ordered (recommended by the waiter) was refreshing. My espresso martini was good but the vanilla tequila had a bit too much bite for me, I would have gone with a ghoul given a second chance.
We went early at 6pm, but the music was amazing - some Abba, funk, and 80s throwback rock. Gorgeous atmosphere, the pop-up vibe where you could see the kitchen and how everything was converted was cool. It was more of a family and date vibe at the time, but we were jamming out. Aldo looks like a cool place just for drinks with picnic tables, a fire pit, and pop-up bar just outside the restaurant seating area. There is free parking in lot 6 and a good amount on the street.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 248302415Mar 20, 2022
I'm really shocked that this steakhouse only has 35 reviews and has been open for 4 months. The place was packed, the food was great, and the service was very well-intentioned. My only ding on the service--not enough to ding a whole star--would be that right after our meal came to our table the servers did not come to check if we needed anything else. For us, that made a difference since our pork chop was a little undercooked and we could have mentioned that to the server. Otherwise, everything was excellent. We ordered the mesculine salad, the bread at the beginning, the pork chop, and the ice cream sundae. The pork chop (with the pineapple jalapeño sauce) and sundae were the most unique dishes and standouts. In general, the portions are good, everything was very flavorful and the ambience of the restaurant was excellent, including the tunes and the outdoor vide that others have mentioned.
If you go at sunset there are a lot of bugs, I mean a lot. If bugs might be an issue to you, I would schedule my reservation after 8 PM just to minimize the bug's situation. To the staff's credit, they do have fans and bug repellent's but it's not a perfect system. Also, the place is pretty smoky if you are seated near or around the kitchen area (and you may leave smelling like a campfire.)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 3816118Mar 10, 2022
I really enjoyed Sunny's. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the space itself is really cool, the music was fun - at times a little loud, but I'll forgive it because the DJ was laying down really good tracks - and the food was delicious. The bread was SO GOOD. Don't skip it. The oysters were fresh and had a variety of mignonettes- I liked them all minus the pineapple one that was a little sweet for my taste. The beef tartare was good (not the best, but definitely decent). The wagyu steak was absolute perfection. We didn't get any sauces and honestly don't feel like it needed anything. It was perfectly cooked and so yummy. The fingerlings were pretty good too when you got the bites with all of the ingredients. Overall, a really nice dinner that was worth the trek and price. Will definitely come back.

This place is all around 5 stars. The food, the atmosphere, the staff, the drinks and the music. There is a lot of parking the lot next door which is great.
All the tartare is amazing and fresh. We ordered the hanger steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The duck also had great flavor and was not gamey at all. The espresso martinis is probably one of the best i have ever tried. This place is a must visit before it closes!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 47169757Mar 16, 2022
My husband and I stopped by Sunny's last week for a drink and some appetizers. We did not have a reservation but we were able to
be seated because we came early. The hostess said that reservations are recommended so if you plan to come, definitely make one. Sunny's is such a fun little place. We only had a few apps but this is possibly my new favorite restaurant. We are huge oyster fans. Sunny's puts their own incredibly delicious sauces on each oyster instead of the traditional horseradish, cocktail, and vinegar. They were so good! We ordered two dozen and it came with three sauces. If you like oysters please order this! They are so good. The wahoo crudo was next and WOW! It was delicious! The Serrano sauce on top was amazing. The beef tartare was the last app we ordered and we both enjoyed it. I have nothing but good things to say about Sunny's. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere is great, and the tree is beautiful. I loved it from start to finish!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 37289095683Aug 31, 2020Updated review
I am updating my review because Jaguar Sun re-vamped their Lot 6 Menu and it is an entirely different experience (food wise) than earlier this summer.
WOW. Pure magic and Sonny's Someday Steakhouse. Do you like martinis? Do you like meats? Do you like vibes? Do you like sundaes?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then you MUST make a resi here.
Jaguar Sun really understands hospitality - from the setting, to the service, to the food and drinks - they are doing a fantastic job here with this socially distant steakhouse.
I absolutely love martinis, and they have a double dirty that comes in a huge carafe for you to keep pouring at your table. For that alone, truly you can bury me here in close proximity to bernaise sauce and I'm a happy woman.
Do yourself a favor and dine at Lot 6. The team at Jaguar Sun is doing all the things right - and in times of a pandemic they are still serving up their quirky, magical vibes - al fresco!Helpful 28Thanks 0Love this 25Oh no 0Jun 25, 2020Previous reviewThe Jaguar Sun pop up at Lot 6 in Litter River is socially distant dining at its finest. During these weird af times of restaurants re-opening, I can't imagine how hard it is for business owners to serve their food and the special ambiance they created for their restaurant - at 50% capacity.
Will and Carey have done just that. They may have traded swanky cocktail bar chairs and bar seating for picnic tables spaced far apart but honestly the vibe feels as magical as their beloved cocktail bar and restaurant in downtown- except it's outside and socially distant.
What hasn't changed? The service is excellent and so friendly. The staff is wearing masks and gloves at all times and they are doing contactless ordering and payment. That means have your phone charged and be ready to order and pay from your device. It's easy, it's quick, and no one but you is touching your card.
As for the food- they have got oysters, tacos, churro beignets and some other rotating goodies. I saw on the gram they are even doing a collab with Itamae this coming weekend. Leave it to the team at Jaguar sun to always keep it both fun and delicious!
And the drinks- oh, they are as lovely as ever. These naughty little bevies will add to the vibes as you imbibe. A great selection of wines, too!
Honestly, I cannot wait to go back. It was a wonderful experience. You can make a resi with them by emailing info@jaguarsunmia.com
The pop up is open Friday's and Saturday's starting at 5. Make sure to give them a follow on IG @jaguarsunmia so you can be aware of the updated menus and such. Also, they are hilarious on social media so there's that, too. Thank you Jaguar Sun for a dining experience I won't soon forget!Jun 24, 2020Previous reviewThe Jaguar Sun pop up at Lot 6 in Litter River is socially distant dining at its finest. Ok so first off, how did I not know about this super cute event space, Lot 6?! I work literally at the end of the street from this place, drive past it all the time, and never knew this place was here! The spot is very whimsical with cool vibes. Lot 6, please continue hosting all the popups!
Now on to Jaguar Sun. I liked their downtown spot's happy hour. I am in full love with this popup. Some of the best service I've had in Miami. Everyone was super attentive, friendly, and the food came out incredibly fast. The food & drinks, while a bit pricey, were amazing and worth every cent I spent. Reservations are recommended but I did see them accommodate some small group walk-ins (1-2 people). Free parking in their lot.
Overall, the Jaguar Sun popup feels like a slightly elevated backyard bbq and I dig it.Helpful 24Thanks 0Love this 19Oh no 0
