About the Business
Established in 1925. A registered historic landmark, the "Alexander" Theatre began life in 1925 as a neighborhood vaudeville and movie house. It hosted Hollywood previews and screened first-run films until the 1980s, when it closed after several years of decline. In 1992, the Glendale Redevelopment Agency invested $6.2 million to transform it into a performing arts center and an anchor for their revitalization plans. Reopening on New Year's Eve 1993, the Alex today is a vital nexus of entertainment, commerce and civic activity. It is home to five resident companies: Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, Glendale Youth Orchestra, Alex Film Society, and Musical Theatre Guild. The Theatre also hosts many other classical, popular, and culturally/ ethnically focused concerts, and is a venue for community groups, film shoots, civic events, and local business uses.

Q:
What parking is available?
A:
There is a large city parking structure on Orange one street west of Brand. The fees are reasonable.

Can you buy tickets for Alex Theatre events directly from the box office? Hoping to bypass some Ticket Master fees.
A:
My guess is yes. The concerts sell out quickly so go well in advance of your desired event. I love that theater!

Very cool old school theater where you can still see some old 35mm movies. We went to the 22nd annual three stooges film festival and it was a good time. Many restaurants to choose from in the area and decent metered street parking. My buddy Kurt is a big Shemp fan so I went to keep an eye on him since I had to question his judgement after he told me shemp was awesome. It's Curly or nuthin for me!

I came to the Alex Theater tonight to see The Nutcracker with my old man, and I felt like I was at a Chuck-E-Cheese. It was such a bummer.
Children and adults were carrying on loud conversations, using flash photography during the ballet; children were literally running up and down the aisles during the show! It was so hard to appreciate any of the play. The show couldn't end soon enough. There was no attempt by the ushers to mitigate the chaos, maybe because this is a standard now?
In addition, there appear to be no easily accessible elevators or ramps in the upper areas. For folks with mobility issues, like my dad, that is not cool and pretty nerve-wracking. There were no announcements made announcing the beginning of the show or intermission. If you're not sitting near the front of the stage, you'll likely not be able to see much.
This theatre has so much potential, but it really needs an overhaul physically and with the expectations set for its attendees. I don't see myself coming back unless major changes are made.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 4796194013820Nov 4, 2023
The Service: Every staff we have encountered are very friendly & helpful.
The Theater: It's a landmark in Glendale. Love the historical exterior look. Nice courtyard to hangout before the show. Mid size theater with good sound system.
The Parking: They validate parking for 3 close by public parking structures. We went to 222 S. Orange which is about 2 minutes walk only.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 7Oh no 0 - Jan 28, 2024Updated review2 check-ins
Alex theater is a landmark in Glendale, specially for Armenians. Most major shows and concerts happen here. I have been here so many times and always enjoyed my time here. A beautiful, clean and nice theater in the middle of Glendale. It's kept well and I really value that. Friendly staff helping everyone.
Many restaurants and bars all around.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Mar 19, 2023Previous reviewAlex theatre is a great venue for any concert or show. I have been here many times over the last 25 years. Today we saw Ladaniva in concert for the first time in LA. What a beautiful performance and evening. We enjoyed it very much.
The theatre is beautiful, has comfy seats and great acoustics. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Location is perfect cause there are many restaurant and shops within walking distance. - Arpie D.Los Angeles, CA54752Sep 7, 2023
Went to watch a premiere here and they did a great job with organizing the event. Checkin went smoothly. Set up inside was gorgeous. They had drinks and food outside that allowed people to mingle and chat and the ushers were very helpful.

So sad to see a beautiful venue run so terribly. Management is a disorganized mess at best. I was simply trying to figure out if I was in the correct line at check in as I purchased VIP tickets. I kept getting different responses from everyone, nobody seemed to be on the same page. Finally asked to speak to someone in charge just to make sure if I was where I was supposed to be....the team member from management (a young lady with green streaks in her hair) not only couldn't answer my question but her breath REEKED of alcohol and she was visibly intoxicated then just walked away from me without offering any help. Needless to say, I will never be coming back unless new management takes over, then I may give the Alex another chance but until then this farewell

Came here for the Nuggets show back in May. The theatre is beautiful and set up great. The show was amazing and the sound was awesome. I attended the same show in NY where I live and i am so glad I went to the one at Alex Theatre because it was a million times better! Staff was friendly and efficient. The outdoor area is very beautiful. Lots of parking around too.

It was really difficult to admire all of the beauty this theater had to offer once. Long lines to grab a refreshment/snack, which is to be expected with a busy night. It was the selection of snacks that really had me puzzled.
I went for a ballet so the noise of popcorn bags being opened and cans of cola being opened was not necessarily what I was hoping for.
Programs were not avail when we walked in, so instead they started handing out programs in the middle of the second act.
In-between acts, several folks got up with stretch, walk around, use the restroom... there were no announcements made that this is not an intermission, or any ushers around indicating this is not the time to get up.
Mind you, I sat in the balcony where several phones were out during the show, a phone call was made, several tardy people were still allowed in to grab a seat after the show started, and I'm not sure if the crowd I was sitting with thought this was a ball game; they were just so rowdy.
Maybe it's me, but I've been to a nice production before, and perhaps everyone forgot how to act in such an event.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - David H.Lakewood, CA029Apr 6, 2023
Last weekend's performance with the LACO was outstanding! Gershwin was breathtaking. Congrats to the theatre and LACO!
