    About the Business

Your Third Place The French have their cafes, the English their pubs, the Greeks their tavernas and bodegas; what do we have in America? Somewhere between home and work we all need a 'third place' to go -- where we can escape the stresses of everyday responsibilities but still connect (with high speed internet access if you choose) to the outside world. Tryst is defining that third place for us. At Tryst, you can linger over a latte, scarf down a sandwich, or get dressed up for a date and sip martinis. Here, you're part of an eclectic mix of characters, art, and ambience. We offer the best coffee and espresso in DC, homemade pastries, hand crafted, rustic breads for our gourmet sandwiches, and an extensive selection of international beers, wines, and liqueurs. Food and drink are part of life and who we are, and as our lives become faster, more efficient, and less personal, we can take solace in the personal care that goes into Tryst's products and service.

Amazing coffee and even better special drinks.

The macchiato here is just amazing! It is what you need every morning. The cardamom pistachio latte exceeded all expectations.

Highly recommend this place in downtown DC!

Carrot cake - highly recommended by a waiter/staff and they weren't wrong. It was semi sweet but well-evened out with frosting and nuts.

Double Chocolate cake - a little dry but satisfying for something chocolate. I'd say it's a solid bite. Both pieces of cake are big enough to share with your loved ones and friends!

Golden milk (turmeric, honey and steamed milk) - very flavorful spices and enjoyable to drink on a cool day. It came with a few of animal crackers! What a nostalgic snack.

Service was fabulous and quick. He is very friendly as he welcomed us in and attentive when we ordered something from couch. The vibe here is very cozy and somewhat hipster. It's a great spot for working on your project or hit a book or people watching from the couch! Cool part about this cafe, it opens until midnight on Friday and it's perfect to stop by before heading to other spots on 18th later.

More than anything else, I come back to this cafe for the relaxing vibe. There are a lot of seating options to suit every preference. My favorite solo spot is the area with benches toward the back. I like the front area by the windows when I'm there with someone else. There are some stools at the front that seem good for solo dining and people watching. And yes... they also have big couches if you really want to settle in, though they are popular. And group tables, bar seating, etc.

There's a mix of social groups, solo diners, and laptop users, some enjoying coffee and some there for drinks.

I don't necessarily go here for the food, but it's enjoyable. I tend to go for the $4.50 cheddar biscuit (always hits the spot) or the $11 quiche when I want something more substantial without breaking the bank. The sandwiches always looked kinda pricy to me, but my friend sprang for a sandwich and it was pretty big and the housemade chips were legit, so to each their own. Cappuccinos are always great, and their drink menu is pretty solid for a cafe.

I've also been there for happy hour once and I'll definitely be back. I think I got the lavender field cocktail which was discounted for HH and it was delicious!

I've also enjoyed a glass of wine and a book with live music in the evening. There was only one drink I didn't like -- an old fashioned which wasn't super balanced. But maybe I was just meant for the fufu drinks.

Lastly, the staff are always so, so sweet. It's a situation where you go find your seat and someone will come over. In the odd event someone doesn't come over within 5 minutes, just wave to any passing staff member and ask for a menu. But even in crowded times they've always seen me.

Ordered breakfast takeout on vacation. First of all they forgot half the order-beverages never arrived. Had to call 5 times before someone picked up and blamed it on the driver leaving without them. Either way no drinks. Hopefully I'll get the refund I requested. Food was not great. Very small sizes on the pastries for the prices paid. Biscuit was salty to the point of being inedible. And charged extra for everything like 50 cents for simple syrup
In a drink I never actually got. Definitely our worst breakfast in DC.

Not only does Tryst have some of the best coffee I've had, they also make great sandwiches! I tried the Hot Cindy Sandwich which is like a tuna melt. It was so good and filling. The tuna was over toasted wheat bread with onions, tomatoes and cheese. The flavors complement each other well and the chips were a nice addition.

I was a fan based on their coffee alone and after the hot Cindy, I look forward to trying other menu items!

I got the Mexican Hot Chocolate and it was delicious. I will be back here to try more of their cafe drinks. I also got the spinach and feta quiche and it was a little wobbly, not quite to my preference. The side salad was fresh.

This place had a very nostalgic atmosphere which makes perfect sense considering it was opened in the 90s. It reminds me of the cafés of my childhood in the 2000s. I know my mom would like this place, especially because there are live music nights.

Great coffee although the barista is very blunt and not really into customer service. I'm ok with that since she made a delicious cappuccino!
The bartender was very friendly and the Maple Old Fashioned was superb!

I went to Tryst last Sunday, around 2pm. I liked the cafe vibes but felt the music was a little too loud. It didn't help that our waiter was really quiet, so we had to constantly ask her to repeat things/scream our order over the music.

I had the tomato soup and the Jonas (chick pea patty). The soup was refreshing, but the chick pea sandwich was so disappointing. It's described as a patty, but the chick peas were just mashed together and slabbed on the pita. I also didn't get the homemade chips that came with it, which was a little annoying....$14 for a squishy pita :(

Conveniently located in the heart of 18th St. tryst feels like a Hometown coffee shop, but they also serve food!

Tryst can be very busy pretty much every single day at every hour of the day because they don't take reservations, but they do have indoor and outdoor seating. The tables do clear really fast and they have a lot of staff working very hard to fill orders.

The vibes of the coffeehouse and lounge is like a study hall. You used to go to in college paired with your parents living room. It has great bones. It's a really fun place to hang out with your friends grab a quick coffee. It feels like an Adams Morgan classic.

Bonus points for the Rubios tea latte not pictured highly recommend. Special shout out to the Archie. It's hard to find a good club sandwich but this is a good one.

A coffee shop that just feels like home!
