Cute little hidden gem in DTLA. There are a few other little restaurants in the same building. Sit outside the order window (general seating). The guy at the window was nice and knowledgeable. He had suggestions and everything. Inhad thw Shrimp Fried Rice. I tasted everything else in the pictures, and they were all good, spicy, but GOODT. I love love love the krispy salad. Everything made fresh. Can I just say how good the food is. The service was great. I'm going back. Try it you'll like it.

We drove here and initially found it challenging to secure parking. Eventually, we discovered a lot behind the building offering 8-hour parking for $10, which we opted for due to the lack of alternatives.
Our original plan was to dine at Broken Mouth, but while waiting for our order, we were enticed to try this place instead, having heard positive reviews.
We chose the Moo Krob (roasted pork belly) and were thoroughly impressed. Opting for the pork belly allowed us to enjoy a light snack, complementing our order from Broken Mouth. Given the outstanding quality of the pork belly, I'm eager to try their Tom Yum on my next visit. I have complete faith in their ability to deliver. The Holy Sauce that accompanied the pork belly was exceptional, and the crispiness was spot-on.
I'm looking forward to returning! The restaurant is situated in a food-court-style area, offering ample seating in a relaxed setting.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenna N.Los Angeles, CA0284Apr 26, 2024
It was *fine*. I don't think I'd try it again. It's not cheap, portions are small and to be frank, it was boring without much flavor. I ordered Pad Kee Mao with waygu beef and Pad See Ew with tofu. The waygu beef is just plain minced beef - no seasoning, marinade, etc. whatsoever so it tastes like... nothing. I love Pad Kee Mao and it's my go to dish at Thai restaurants so I've had it often. This one just didn't have any flavor. The Pad See Ew was similar - lacking flavor. You'd really have to doctor these up to make them interesting and worth eating.
On the plus side, they packaged my to-go order well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bill T.Cypress, CA14421Mar 31, 2024
Food was good and had a cute dining area, but the food hall area want great and the portions were small for the price.
The Tom yum and chicken rice we ordered were great, but small. They tasted pretty well balanced and traditional, which was great with the food stall vibe of the cheap plastic tables and chairs.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 27, 20241 check-in
Worth the try: shrimp curry, moo krob, house Thai tea
Tip: It's a small shop so expect a wait or try to go during off-peak hours! Wouldn't recommend coming with a group larger than 4 people.
Wild Shrimp Curry ($24): House-made yellow curry paste, wild shrimp, egg, fried shallots, sichuan peppercorn oil. My favorite dish of the night! A very flavorful curry with shrimp, different from what I'm typically used to having at Thai restaurants. Not spicy.
Moo Krob ($22): Holy Basil's signature crispy pork belly, 48 hours cured served with Holy Sauce. This dish is perfect by itself--each piece is fried to perfection without being too fatty or oily.
Grandma's Fish & Rice ($22): Shredded fried barramundi, cilantro, chili fish sauce, lime and shallots. A rice dish with fried fish most of the flavor coming from the like and chili fish sauce.
PARKING: Lots of street parking available nearby.
SERVICE: Limited staff but they're quick to get you the next open table, take your order, and serve your food. Be kind and patient with them!
ATMOSPHERE: Small restaurant in a back alley of Atwater Village. The tables and chairs definitely give it that Thai street market vibe, which adds to the entire experience.
My partner has been raving about this new Thai spot in Atwater Village and we finally got to give it a try! We arrived on a Wednesday at 7 PM and were seated within 15 minutes with 1 party ahead of us. While we were eating we saw a longer line form outside. They're currently going through their soft opening and expect to fully launch within the next 1 - 2 months. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other dishes!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 600306381Feb 21, 2024Updated review
Amazing FOOD! Great service. Cute little dining area, with tables and chairs to bring you that authentic Thailand feel.
Tom Yum soup was a little too sweet for my liking. I do like min with a lot more acid, so it's just a personal perference.
Top dishes are
Crispy fluffy pork belly
Pad see ew (cooked perfectly!)
Fried Fish with rice (comes with a spicy fish sauce)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Mar 8, 2023Previous reviewThis place is delicious!
Pork Belly Kra Pow 9.5/10, the sugar snap peas were slightly under cooked, and they did not clean them properly and a lot of them still have the stem/string. But the flavor was really good and the pork belly skin was still slightly crispy! Rice was delicious!
Pad See Ew Shrimp:9/10 Shrimps are huge! probably size 8/10 lb. Flavor was good. Noodle were cooked perfectly but they don't give you too much noodle. Lots of the gailan (Chinese broccoli) stem. Normally I would like all that veggie, but it seemed a little disproportional - Feb 16, 2024
Found this jem through a recommendation.
We had 4 people in our party and the 4 dishes we ordered were more than enough food.
We started with the chicken wings and the shishito peppers. Both of these dishes were full of flavor.
The pad noodles we ordered were also tasty.
The soup we ordered was definitely the star of the show. We ordered it with a side of white rice and it was more than enough for all 4 of us.
The restaurant is part of a food court and you kind of feel like you're dinging in an outside night market.
Will definitely come back and try some more of their dishes.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 8, 2024
Absolutely deserving of 5 stars and more! While the dining experience itself is a little untraditional being inside of a food hall with tiny tables and stools, it's 100% worth it. I'm a big Thai food eater, but Holy Basil goes above and beyond in flavor and authenticity. I went with a few friends and we ordered a variety of things to share and not a single thing disappointed. We ordered the spring rolls, wings, pad see ew, fried pork belly, and pad kee mao with shrimp. The shrimps were BIG and juicy. The pork was so crispy and tender. The pad kee mao was delightfully spicy and tickled my tongue in the best way. The wings were crunchy and so flavorful. All of the sauces were so complimentary to each dish. There wasn't a dish I didn't like. I want to scream how good Holy Basil was from the mountain tops. I will definitely be back and can't wait to visit again!

If you find yourself in the Fashion District in DTLA you have got to try Holy Basil. Holy Basil is in a mini food hall and has traditional, delicious Thai food. This woman-owned business was the best way to spend our lunch break. Our group shared too many items to count - we had skipped breakfast lol. But the pork belly was probably the crispiest thing I have ever eaten, and whatever that green sauce is was fantastic. The skinny egg rolls were a 10/10 as well!! For my main I had the Pad Se Ew with shrimp and it was so delicious. Seating wise there isn't a ton, but if you have the opportunity to sit down and eat it fresh I definitely recommend it.

Always amazing from the food to the service and atmosphere! My favorite Thai restaurant to go to. They have a new location in atwater village that I still need to go to but the dtla location is the most convenient for me. Every single time i come here and eat the food gets better and better. I love the quality and love that they put in it. I dream about their food.

This is THE go-to spot for Thai.
I first had their fried rice when they had a stall at Infatuation a few years back and never forgot it since.
I love strong flavors and good flavor profile combos in my dishes and Holy Basil serves exactly that.
They're located in a gloomy looking food hall with other restaurants, which tbh I forgot what they were after seeing that Holy Basil was open. Service is nice and they bring the food to you after you order at the door.
The whole ambiance of the hall is not as flashy as the popular parts of DTLA, but dw, Holy Basil's food does all the shining.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
