Had lunch with a group of six. The atmosphere is ok. It's a large airy place with a traditional decor that fits the financial district. The food was very good as well. We all enjoyed our menu selections. The service was slow and a little chaotic. It did impact how quickly we were able to get in and out. Overall a nice place, but could use a little improvement on the service side of the house.

1 Lombard Street is in an ideal location in the City, near Bank. It wasn't terribly crowded when I ate there and we had a cozy banquette in the Brasserie on a rainy night. First, the service was impeccable and the servers were engaging and attentive. Importantly for me, they make a very decent American martini, not always easy to find in England. I started with their Caesar salad which comes with lardons and a fried duck egg on top. I have to say that it was one of the best Caesars I've ever had and I've eaten thousands probably. Because it was a chilly night, I ordered their bangers and mustard mash with onion gravy. It absolutely hit the spot. My companions had the pan-fried sea bass and the steak tartare which they both pronounced excellent. This place will become a regular stop when I'm in London from now on!

I'm a little mixed on this place. I chose it because I was responsible for booking a "lunch meeting" in central London and one of my colleagues needed it to start by 11 am. I discovered quickly that 11 am in London is a dead zone when it comes to finding places appropriate for a sit-down lunch meeting (most places that serve breakfast end at 10:30 am and remain closed until 12 noon on the dot as the earliest for lunch). I did find a few places open at 11:30 am for lunch but they didn't take reservations and I did not want to chance being unable to get a guaranteed table for this meeting. I chose here because they opened at 11:30 am and they took a reservation. I also found that they have 1 star form the Guide Michelin if you follow that sort of thing. First, I love the location. It is in the financial district and very convenient for people to get to. It is literally across the street from the Bank tube station and if you can't find it when you exit the station after crossing the street, it is likely because you are standing right at the front entrance and didn't look up to see the subdued signage etched into the doorway window of the building. Entry is a bit imposing if you are not a high finance banker and I will warn you that everyone in the place (except my table) were in suits and power ties. While my party was reasonably dressed, without full suits on, I felt like I was a homeless person in the middle of Rodeo Drive. I really should have acted the part too and put out a cup for spare change since the price of the food here is pretty high. A simple lunch (as an example, a starter of soup and a pasta entree and some water, no alcohol ordered) will set you back somewhere in the range of $50 USD. The setting was updated old-school and very cool with a central circular bar set under a semi-glass dome and the interior was likely a former bank refurbished to be bright, cheery, and looking for ways to help take your money. The service was polished and polite, water glasses filled continuously and the place was packed. I noted a group come in right after me that was unable to get a table because they did not have a reservation so I'm sure this place packs it in with the surrounding bankers daily. I did notice that the service of our meal was not spaced well and there were several periods where we waited a long time for food to appear. I didn't really mind since we had a lot of agenda items to discuss and we were not really there for a 5 star meal but it occurred to me after that if I am going to be charged that kind of money for a meal, it really should be pretty close to right on. Once food began arriving, I was unable to take photos of my meal because I thought that might be rude given my colleagues at the table. My dish was tasty and perfectly cooked. Portions are reasonable but not huge. I left not completely full but not hungry either. It is right in the middle of the road for me and Iwould go back if I am needing to take someone out to impress them but it would not be a destination for me to seek out.

Went for a business lunch with a prospect who recommended it. The setting is wonderful and the food (fregola salad for me and bangers and broccoli for my guest) were very nice. The two problems are that it's very noisy and about 2x the price that the food warrants. You are definitely paying for the setting. The service was fair and we had to find someone else to ask our waiter for the check.
Nice if you want to impress and can tolerate the noise.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 5, 2016
1776 is a fine, centrally located restaurant in a fairly interesting space. The restaurant boasts a strong and deep wine list and a fairly diverse menu with meat and fish options. The dover soul is a standout. Table service is stronger than bar service, where the staff can appear disinterested. Beer selections are poor.

I like the ambience and decorations of the restaurant, all very classy, antique and presentable - a typical style that you can find in Bank.
The staff greeted me at the entrance and it wasn't long until I was served. We originally booked for three but only two of us were there but they didn't ask us to change table because the restaurant wasn't full anyway.
Food wise, ordered the set menu three course for 20, excluding a 12.5% service charge. I particularly liked their bread and butter pudding, and they had a salmon and avocado salad as well which I liked. However, a sea shell soup that I ordered on the side tasted like a mixture of salt and water. It was not pleasant.
conclusion, I am not in a hurry to go back and eat there LOL.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 5, 2015
I went to a private event in the back room and everything was wonderful. The restaurant was beautiful and had a lively buzz about it. Beautiful people toasted glasses of rose champagne at the bar. The waiters were very professional and discreetly made sure your wine was topped off and remembered that I was drinking the French red rather than the Italian red even though there were lots of guests. Appetizers were fantastic! Little spoons of bangers and mash, roast beef with horseradish and Yorkshire pudding, Huge tempura prawns with spicy sauce, scallops and black pudding (which is the only thing I didn't try a bite of. As an American I am a bit
Whimpy with anything called pudding unless it is Yorkshire in London!). Dinner was a beautiful salmon appetizer and a wonderful stuffed chicken dish with truffles. Yum! Dessert was a very rich chocolate Carmel number. 1 Lombard was a treat and worth the trip!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 3576856May 11, 2009
I went to the Lombard Street Brasserie in London after finding it listed on Toptable. We went for the 5 courses for £19.50. The building itself is very nice, and we were delighted with the coatroom service and the live piano music.
The place looked very elegant, perfect for entertaining clients or a romantic dinner. However, it did feel very soulless I think it was because of the acoustics as it really felt as though we were at a funeral!!
The food itself was very tasty (although the portions were very small the soup in the set menu came in a small espresso cup), and truly the work of a great chef. The waiting staff was attentive, but service was rather slow we had to wait quite some time between courses and to get our drinks, so our dinner ended up taking 2+ hours. Also, I'm not sure if the staff were being biased or not but we were not offered any bread and butter at the beginning when we told them we were going to have the TopTable offer, whereas every other table around us received it.
Anyways, for the price, you're not getting much food and not the best service either, but I guess it is more for the experience and maybe a place to bring someone to impress.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Soomin R.London, United Kingdom85439236Sep 4, 2015
We went for a small dinner - which ended up cost £40 in total. First caution: it is very over-priced for what they serve, as solid as they may be.
I had the fried squid as a starter, then the Thai beef salad as my main. Both dishes were good - the squid was fresh with the accompanying mayo very unique and flavourful, whilst the Thai beef salad was also well cooked. Having said that, once again, I did not think six (or thereabouts) pieces of friend squid justify £10 or my small portion of salad, £12. Perhaps, the cost of rent in the prime location is the cause, but suffice it to say I've been to restaurants run by famous chefs that cost less. Also, my wine felt a bit expired. The rims were starting to yellow, and I noticed residues at the bottom of my glass too.
Ambience is quite spacious with high-ceilings. Good for business meals or even events - they seemed to host events quite professionally, based on advertisements.
Service was really mediocre. My wine was delayed in being served, and the server really had no personality - very transactional for a restaurant of this price level.
All in all, go if you have to (it will get the job done), but try out other places if you can.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Keith T.Bury Saint Edmunds, United Kingdom2619394Sep 26, 2008
A great location, a wonderful setting, a magnificent building, a Michelin starred menu and a wonderful wine list - would more could you ask for?
I was lucky enough to be taken here for a work team meal and have to say I was blown away by the place (I only just learnt it was a 1 Michelin Star restaurant).
You can tell - the food was fantastically presented, it tasted great and each course was an absolute delight.
The staff were very friendly and knew their stuff - the sommelier was very good as to cope with my very fussy colleague.
Full of city suits on week nights which gives it a fairly vibrant feel for somewhere so cutting edge and contemporary.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
