The clearest sign of an overheated economy? $12 for bread and baguette to start the meal (even if the baguette was baked next door with a lovely crunch).
My omelette was a well executed French omelette with a nice degree of fluffiness, although I prefer the sharper cheeses that Balthazar employs. Zero qualms about the fries.
Probably would skip the charred carrots with yogurt next time - I think they could have been a bit more gutsy in their charring to bring out the sweetness.Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 1 - Feb 9, 2024
Frenchette is one of my favorite spots in the city for a splurge. I'd suggest saving it for a big night (thinking birthday, anniversary) so, when the bill comes, you remember it was worth it. Service is delightful, check your coat and cares, and head to your table in the sultry lit back room for good food and fun.
The food is the full range of French--you can do something light or dangerously heavy. I strongly suggest sharing everything among the table. The menu changes constantly so I recommend getting your server's recommendations, but avoid the "standard" brasserie fare here. Duck frites you can have lots of places. I'm sure it's good, but go off the beaten path a little and you'll find a delightful take on many a classic. The wine list (although pricy) is top tier, natural, French, and something for any taste (Domaine La Boheme is my taste and they have it).
Dessert is also a must. Importantly, they have a really cool after dinner drinks program focused (a bit) on l'eau de vie. It'll help the hearty meal go down. I recommend the Never Too Heavy if they have it kicking around still.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 17, 2024Updated review
Finally, a table at Rw lunch. It's been a minute and tough for one here, where Le Rock lets you book.
I went when the opened after trying to call & instagram. I got a table in the main dining room & I was thrilled.
Ate:
Laurent red $18
Soup de Poisson
Skate Wing Grenobloise
Chocolate mousse
RW Lunch $60
Wine was chilled, not a fan of that though common at lunch but it's a treat to eat here!! Bread is a whole mini baguette with butter-- now that's hospitality.
The soup is everything! Tasting of the sea yet refined. It's perfect! The main of slate was so delicious. I enjoyed how unrushed my lunch was.Soutout to the fab and chic host who sat me at the lovely table.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0May 18, 2018Previous reviewTriBeCa has a new French hotspot , and it's a winner out of the gate. A few doors down from Batartd, the bar was full 15 minutes into service, thats the mark of a true hotspot. Luckily, I snagged a bar table on Friday for one hour and 45 minutes(thank you Spanky) which was enough to have dinner and get a sense of this new spot. Now French food can be hit or miss in NYC, but my standards are Vaucluse, Le Cou Cou and now La Mercerie, all of which by far surpass the dining experience at Frenchette.
Firstly the room is gorgeous- teeny banquettes around the bar, very modern, French inspired design. The bar is super noisy so the back rooms are preferable if you like quiet.
Ate:
Arcade bakery bread
Sardines
White asparagus
Cod, & cockles
Soup de poisson
Total: $72
The bread served with butter from Arcade bakery, a Tribeca gem is a treat. Sardines were ok. The white asparagus with truffle oil and leeks were very overcooked though the sauce was killer.. This was my third white asparagus in three weeks- La Mercerie was the only restaurant that got it right. The cod and cockles served with sunchokes was quite delicious though lacking a little zing, My favorite dish was the soup- a crouton with saffron aoili on top- now that soup tasted like Southern France- rich and authentic which seems like Frenchette misses a bit, though the masses will come and hardly notice. I did have food envy for the Poulet for two which served in Le Creuset dishes next to me and looked amazing. A young manager gave a slight odd smile when I told him that the asparagus were over cooked, no I apologize, would you like to try something else. Service was a mixed bag, and feels a bit full of itself. - Jan 1, 2024

I enjoy holidays ( winter and summer) as nyc can get quieter as people visit their families or are on holiday in the Hamptons, etc . More importantly, restaurants that are difficult to get into now have availability.
I met up with a friend who lives in Downtown for a Christmas lunch catchup and decided to sit at the bar. Because it was a late lunch , table service was winding down and the place started clearing out . We got o spend a nice semi quiet lunch consisted of anchovies linguini ( the pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious), duck and french fries . I don't like overeating , with the bartenders recommendation , we didn't over order. Great restaurant with good service . We were assisted by the somm to choose a very reasonably priced bottle.
I'm sure the desserts would have been amazing ( french desserts are the best ). Another reason to come in the near future .Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 6, 2024
Frenchette was awarded as a James Bear winner for best new restaurant back in '19; this French restaurant offers lunch, brunch, dinner, and a dessert and beverage list.
We were treated to a dinner here and were seated promptly.
To start off the mean, we tried:
+Anchois Frits - with sage and lemon aioli; this was a bit too sage-forward
+Jambon Maison - with cheddar and brown butter; this was a favorite of others
+Pain Maison - Frenchette Bakery baguette with beurre demi-sel; the bread was a little stale
+King Crab - with winter citrus, avocado, and tarragon
For my entree, I had the Petite Tender Au Poivre - this was a bistro cut, and prepared with Sarawak peppercorn and pommes frites. The peppercorn was very overpowering, and the cut of meat was a bit tough and chewy.
The place is set up like a little bistro, and the volume can get loud. It does tend to get very warm with the number of people in there.
Service was fine.

Unbelievable vibe and atmosphere with delish French food and unbeatable service. A cozy French bistro in Paris meets a swanky nyc restaurant - Frenchette is the love child of that. The baguette and butter was amazing and to die for with the egg and escargot dish. The Parisian gnocchi was phenomenal so flavorful and perfect for a cold winter night. The duck frites were as good as everyone says and the mashed potatoes may have been the best I've ever had. WOW

Overall it's a 3.5 star for me, but I don't feel like it reached 4 star because of price and value.
~ Duck Frites (3.5/5) ~
First of all, this costs $54 and I'm not sure what I'm getting is worth this price. It's a nice duck breast alright, but there are room for improvement.
Overall, it's very well seasoned and flavourful. The meat has a slightly pink centre, and it is quite juicy and not very tough (not the most tender duck breast I had but it's good). The top thin layer of duck skin is crispy, but the under/deep fat is quite chewy, so the crisp is barely present.
The fries are well seasoned, even though some are not crispy but still they tasted good! It came with a bearnaise sauce which is rich, creamy and tangy. Since I found the duck breast itself flavourful enough to stand alone, I ate the fries with bearnaise sauce, and it was a delight.
~ Paris Brest a la Pistache (4/5) ~
Very good dessert! The choux pastry is well baked and crispy. The cream have strong pistachio flavour, and a lot of pistachio crunches! It's probably a bit much if 1 person is to devour this dessert entirely, as it gets quite heavy and gradually I found it a bit sweet. Still, I finished the whole dessert myself and left feeling satisfied.
Will I be back? Probably
It has really good ambience, service is good, food is good, but it's not very good value. I may want to come back to try other dishes though!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Nov 17, 2023
Had dinner here and I'm not impressed. FYI: I didn't pick this place and I like french food so why not?
Well to start, my slightly watered down drink (called Market Fresh) was probably a sign. As we moved from the bar to table, it's a small spot and they really pack you in. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters, tagliatelles and baguette. That's right folks! Bread is not free at this shi-shi fancy place that charges $20+ for 1 drink. The baguette was too hard for my preference and the oysters too briny. The tagliatelles was too salty in my opinion but my companions seemed to like it.
For the main, we ordered the steak, the duck, the crispy suckling pig and the cod. I'm almost positive the chef is a smoker because everything was indeed quite salty. The steak was good (a little too salty maybe because it's sitting in sauce?) and cooked more rare than medium rare so if you like your meat bloody, this is the dish for you. The duck was surprisingly well cooked (tender and not dry) with a slight gamey taste. The suckling pig was beyond disappointing and so dry. The skin was not crispy and more on the chewy side. The cod was good and cooked well and probably the only dish not overly salty. The fries that comes with the 2 mains was not as good as it looked. Most were overcooked as in slightly burnt and also very salty.
The desserts was quite good and probably the one thing that saved this review from a 2 star. The PARIS-BREST À LA PISTACHE is like a stuffed cronut which was good. The ÎLE FLOTTANTE (chocolate cake) was also nice.
For a table of 4, all the food and 2 bottles of wine with 4 cocktails was close to $1000 including tip so $250 a person. That bill was insane for the so-so quality of food. I'm not even talking ratio here but just that I think it's way too over priced for just ok food.
Bottom line: This place is overhyped and over priced #sorrynotsorryHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - C C.Santa Monica, CA040Apr 5, 2024
Wonderful service -- went last night around 8:30pm as a walk-in, and the amazing host found a great table for the two of us right away -- and everyone who engaged with us was friendly and extremely helpful. The food was divine and the atmosphere was pitch perfect. Thank you, Frenchette.
