My family and I love this place and everything about it. The staff is so friendly they literally treat you like (and call you) family. They make the best fried catfish in town, it's seasoned perfectly and fried to perfection! I'm looking forward to coming back when their new place is ready to go. Love y'all

Welton Street is a neighborhood staple - best food and best people.
Come early for the pop-ups but it's worth the wait.

I judge a southern/soul food place by the sides. In my option... it's all about the sides.
We ordered Red beans and rice, yams, black eyed peas and greens.
      ALL VEGAN.
      The food was plain looking.
The taste... has depth, bold woth correct textures.
Amazing. The yams were the best I ever had.
      Eat this snack.

Trust someone's opinion that has tried the place more than once. One of my favorite places. I would cut meat for Welton St. Cafe, l have known Ms. Mona & her family for quite a while. My family was really upset when Welton St. Closed. Welton St Cafe, is a monument to the area, not jyst the food. If you ever ate there, your main reason is for the culture/heritage then the food.

If you want to be around a love vibe, smiles, and affirming conversation this is your spot. If you want to learn about the happenings in the community and Black Denver, Welton's is your place.

If you want canned yams, velveeta mac and cheese, overpriced small portions this is your spot. Despite the favorable reviews, the food is quite disappointing and dessert doesn't measure up either. We ordered several dishes in our party: catfish dinner, pork chops, whiting, and fried chicken. All with different sides, greens, yams, mac& cheese, mashed potatoes, and cabbage. And we actually didn't eat it all and went to another restaurant.

      Is the food palatable-yes.
      Is it lip smacking good-no.
Does the hospitality enhance the food? Absolutely.

Take out only at this time. Covid Practices from employers and customers. You can order on-site and expect to wait up to 40 minutes. Mostly crowded between 5-7 pm and oftentimes runs out of items on the menu. Insignificant since my family will not eat here again.

Every item is overpriced substantially. Canned items not doctored up are just canned items. Now, My family and I make everything from scratch so perhaps why a less favored review. However, we travel often and understand that restaurants have to meet the needs of customers with canned and packaged goods. Welton's is subpar at best.

Located in the historical Five Points district, with limited free parking in the back and metered parking on the street.

Welton's is an active community icon. So much so that one of the owners has a mural painted in the RiNo district. If you want to support the work they do for the community-donate instead of purchasing food.

From the moment I first entered the restaurant, we were greeted with such kindness that I felt like I was being welcomed by a family member. They had so many tempting items on the menu, but I decided to try their fried chicken since the yelp reviews raved about how perfect it was.

It took awhile for the food to come, but wow it was definitely worth the wait! When I took my first bite, it was SO crispy yet not horribly dry or overly greasy like what you'd expect from KFC. It was honestly so addicting and even tho I'm the type to toss the skin and not finish my meals, I was able to gobble the whole thing up! I also ordered mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese as my side dishes and something about those sides tasted so nostalgic to me it was a very pleasant moment.

I definitely want to go back in the future. The food, service, and environment is just too amazing!

Took an Uber here from my downtown hotel and was nervous that I had the wrong location because when we arrived a trolley was blocking the view of the storefront so watch for the trolleys (for blocking AND crossing).

When we walked inside the staff were pleasant and welcoming... I looked at the menu online so I knew what I wanted - a fried fish platter with black eyed peas and rice and greens; my hubby ordered fried chicken with yams, mac 'n cheese and cabbage - he didn't like the cabbage so he asked for greens to replace them. After all was said and done, we both cleaned our plates - the food was pretty good. I recommend if you're looking for homestyle southern cooking while in the area.

This is exactly the place to come for home cooked soul food with fabulous customer service. Our team went for lunch last week and we were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in. The vibe is that you have walked into your grandma's kitchen (a large kitchen but that's the vibe so work with me on this) and you are in for a treat.

I opted for the jerk chicken sandwich with a side of greens and red beans and rice. The jerk chicken was perfectly spicy and really juicy. I drizzled a little extra hot sauce and it kicked it up to the next level. The greens are made with turkey and not pork and they were tender, salty and yummy. The red beans and rice were also infused with incredible flavor that you only get when you add time and love.

My co-workers got the jerk chicken and wings and everyone was really impressed with the food. We got a piece of cornbread to share that was so good, we ordered a second piece. Super tender and warm, it was the ideal cornbread.

For dessert we shared peach cobbler but by that point we were overly full so couldn't do it the full justice it deserved.

Jerk chicken sandwich with red beans and rice and greens. So. Good!!

Gotta give it to Welton Street Cafe. Having recently moved from the south I often crave southern cooked soul food. Before here, I could not find one restaurant near or in Denver doing it the way Welton Street Cafe is. I was extremely impressed, the meal was better than some restaurants in the south that have been doing it far longer. And customer service? Superb. Caught the cook outside after my meal, told him basically what I've told in this review, he was extremely grateful. Probably will be visiting here once every other week.

      P.S.

If you enjoy a meal and happen to see the cook whom prepared it, give them a simple thank you. It can often make their day, and also often, it's truly deserved.

My cousin & I were on vacation in Denver.(We're from Phila., PA)
We wanted to support a local Denver black business. We read about Welton's Cafe made our way there.... We ordered the fish & chicken platters with 2 sides. We also ordered 2 peach cobblers to go. Horrible! To be fair, the chicken & fish were good. HOWEVER, all of the sides were not good. The hush puppies were dry & heavy like rocks. The greens had absolutely no flavor. Not a a Turkey wing or hammock to be seen or tasted.. The cornbread was gummy & wet. But the absolute worst (besides the sticker shock $58 for the lunch tab ) was the peach cobbler! Had I seen the atrocity prior to leaving the restaurant: I would've demanded a refund on the spot. They charged $6 each for the cobbler and it was disgusting. They had the nerve to use wong tong noodles as the so called crust! Blasphemy !
