The second you walk into this restaurant, you can feel the history in this restaurant. From the use of an old cashier register to pictures showing the restaurant back in 1919. You can feel that this is a well loved local restaurant.
What caught our eye with this restaurant was their Chargrilled Oysters. I've never had oysters this was so I had to try them! One of my friends never had oysters and she really liked them. I told her this is probably a good starter oyster for those who don't eat seafood too often. The oysters were filled with garlic and butter, can't go wrong with this combo.
To get the most of all the seafood, we ordered the seafood platter which comes with fried oysters, shrimp, crab claws, and a choice of the trout or catfish. We chose the trout and had an order of the catfish as well. This was a ton of food for three people and I feel as though it is a shame to waste seafood. Our favorites were the shrimp and catfish out of the seafood. The fried seafood wasn't too salty which helped as we were eating a bunch of fried food. We didn't like the crab claws as much and could skip that next time.
We really enjoyed Casamento's as it's a cute little casual restaurant and reasonably priced! It's cute how there's someone shucking oysters at the front while you wait. If you want some seafood, this is a place you gotta try!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 3, 2024
We have visited NOLA 2x per year for the last 4 years just to eat at the best rated restaurants, so this review actually saddens me.
Casamento's has been our on list for a while and finally made it on our dinner list on a Thursday night. Unfortunately our experience was absolutely horrible and our waiter Dom should be fired if I owned this place. His lack of service, respect and hospitality was probably the worst I have seen at any restaurant. It was so bad that I actually took a few days to reflect before I wrote this review. And it was not because they were packed, it was us and 4 other tables at 8:30pm.
For a place that requires you to wear a jacket the entire dinner service you expect decent service. It was astonishing how bad Dom was, so if you do visit and get him as your waiter you have 2 options. Leave, (what I would do) or request another waiter.
Food is not bad, only reason I gave it 2 stars. Definitely won't recommend or visit again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Jan 25, 2024
The oyster shop most tourists don't find as way uptown on Magazine Street.
Yes - there is Acme, Felix's, Deanie's, etc. but when I am in town this is my spot. Started in 1938 and I expect decor unchanged. And most of the staff have been here a LONG time. And great!
Limited seating. Seafood heavy.
We had raw and grilled oysters and then 1/2 po-boys of shrimp and oysters. A taste treat and easy on the wallet.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 12, 2024
Casamento's is a family owned NOLA institution that specializes in Gulf seafood. It's a quirky place where you get the impression that they don't need to accommodate you because they have plenty of customers. This is not to say the food and service aren't great...they are! But there's no making reservations, cash only, only open Thursday-Sunday, (and to be safe, call to check. Especially in summer.) Be prepared to stand in line a while. It is definitely not hip and not touristy.
It's small and casual. The floors and walls are all tile which is pretty but makes it loud. They have several beers (not on tap tho) and cheap wine. Decor is amusing. You can buy oyster crafts if that's your thing! Two guys are shucking fresh oysters for half shell. Yum.
I got the seafood gumbo which was excellent and husband got the oyster "stew" which wasn't like New England thick oyster stew but a buttery thin broth. Delicious. Fried oyster sandwich is served on "pan bread" which reminds me of Texas toast. I'd prefer a French load but this was pretty good bread. Oysters perfectly fried. Husband got platter with half trout and half oysters. Sides of fries and cole slaw. Reasonably priced.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brie S.Honolulu, HI40139108May 8, 2024
Casamento's is a New Orleans' institution and a four generations family run business celebrating 105 years of operation. This cash only spot has a classic menu featuring a variety of local favorites. I was absolutely blown away by the charbroiled oysters and would even go as far to say that they rival Acme and Felix's which also serve up amazing grilled oysters in town. Their team is friendly and the service is fast. The ambiance and decor almost feels like you're in a family member's kitchen enjoying a home cooked meal in the best way possible. Pro tip: this is a great dinner spot before catching a show at Tipitina's with only a six minute walk to the venue!

Typically, when my dad suggests a "foodie adventure", it is typically something incredible, but this one was a bit of a wash for me. The service at the small mom-and-pop restaurant was extremely friendly and attentive but the food was very average.
We ordered some gumbo and calamari to share, and both came out lukewarm. I am very aware of the temperature of my food and so when it does not come out hot, it is a little offputting, and I tend to be a little suspicious.
For my meal, I decided to do the fried shrimp and again the temperature was lukewarm at best. The fries were soggy, and all in all it was just a very bland, unremarkable meal.
With so much great food in New Orleans, this one is definitely not making it back on my list.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 2, 2023
This is one of those places we had to go in NOLA. Casamento's is only open during oyster season and only Thursday to Sunday. So when we arrived on Sunday we went straight there and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by the friendly staff and seated immediately. The room exuded vintage southern diner at its best. Ordered our food and everything came out brisk and hot. Oysters chargrilled to perfection and the Seafood Platter introduced us to fried and battered mini crab claws. But the star of the night was the fried soft shell crab loaf. It was called a "1/2 order" but was gigantic and contained the largest soft shell I have ever eaten. It was heavenly and we wish we could have gone back for more but we left NOLA on Wednesday so didn't get the chance. We'll be back Casamento's!

What a local treasure! My husband is medically required to eat gluten free so the fact that all their fried seafood meets that requirement is what first brought us in. How good all the food is coupled with the personable service is what brought us back again. Recommended dishes: shrimp loaf po boy (fully dressed). The loaf bread it's served on is craveable. Chargrilled fries (I read the topping for those is the same as what tops their oysters). Coleslaw. Spaghetti and meatballs (it's a bit sweet - apparently that's Sicilian style?) Even the simple iceberg lettuce and tomato salad was thoroughly enjoyable. Looking forward to our next visit.

I have wanted to try Casamento's for the longest time, but it felt like they were never open (and they basically aren't--they're seasonal and during the season only open Thurs - Sun). Finally made it there today and it was pretty disappointing. I'm a sucker for kitsch and can get down with a hole-in-the-wall, but don't have much tolerance for filth. We were sat at a table in the back corner right next to a dish bin and a can of pest spray directly at the mouth of the kitchen. Everything was just grimy! It definitely soured the experience for me. I thought for sure the oysters would wash away all my angst, but the raw weren't cold with icky shells and the chargrilled were overcooked and lukewarm. The redeeming piece of this was the fried seafood is gluten free, and it was really neat to be able to enjoy some fried shrimp for once! If it wouldn't have been for my dad's enthusiasm, I would have left before ordering.
