When you step into the Market at Union Hall, you notice a few things right away: the beauty of the historic 1800's building, the scent of local, organic coffee and fresh-baked pastries, and the healthful groceries lining the walls. But the most unique and memorable quality of this store is the kindness and joy radiating from the man behind the counter, Daniel Pereira. Beyond his passion for great food and drink, Daniel loves connecting with people and creating community, and that's exactly what he's doing at the Market.

What a lovely gem of a place! So friendly and welcoming. I had a slice of the carrot cake and an iced coffee. The cake was Nice and light and tender, delicious cream cheese frosting. I sat on the shaded patio to eat. Such a nice spot, I enjoyed the music too. Not too loud but it gave a nice relaxed vibe.

Carrot cake and iced coffee on the patio. Divine.

The carrot cake! 5 stars for this alone. Huge, rich, fluffy, divine, massive slab of carrot cake bursting with carrots, cream cheese frosting, and just the right amount of sweetness. Of all the desserts here, this was the best. Mmmm....

      5 stars!!!

I'm here almost every weekend because they have the best croissants in the area. They carry a lot of local products, baked goods, and farm-fresh produce. In addition to the croissants, I enjoy their cheese bread or pão de queijo for a little extra snack. The Market might be the only place around here that has a proper baguette. They will warm up any baked good, sandwich, quiche for you. The folks who run this place are always so friendly and helpful.

Since COVID, they've converted their outdoor seating a bit but they've placed some other amenities like heat lamps, fire pits, chimineas, and a spacious tent. They do a wonderful job of social distancing, mask wearing, and limiting entry into their little shop.

I find their prepared foods and baked goods a tad pricey but it's all worth it for the quality, service, and the atmosphere.

Super friendly staff. Small bakery with big yummy looking cakes sold by the slice, cookies, coffee, and an assortment of other trendy quick eats such as paleo bagels. Also sells some souvenir trinkets and quality local toiletry type products.

We bought a tart cherry pie here for a party and it was very good! Turned out to be a crowd favorite amongst a bunch of desserts. Highly recommend!

The Market is like walking into a big smile. Salads, sandwiches and (especially) the cakes are fresh and delicious
My only problem is deciding to go to The Market or his new spot "Daniel's on June". They are both wonderful!

I've known Daniel since I was a teen, he even managed me at nature's temptations when I was a deli clerk, and I've always been an admirer of his caring and welcoming demeanor. What he's done at union hall is incredible! And his caring, customer first attitude has not changed at all as he's grown in his endeavors, hiring staff that embody his priorities in customer care.

North Salem is not known for having much more than gorgeous peaceful horse farms and properties, sleepy and sparse of notable life outside the walls of each home. The nearest gas stations are 15-20 minutes away and grocery stores just the same. Yet right smack in the middle of the route to the train station is Union Hall, adorned by a peaceful stream and public land for walking and catching up with dear ones.

Covid 19 seems to have made this place even cozier than before with bustling (socially distanced) communities of people stopping for a coffee in front of the fires, covered in grey wool blankets supplied by Union Hall. Only 2 people are allowed at a time indoors, and if you can't make it out, union hall has delivery service of the freshest produce and high quality artisan product. And now there's a wonderful new chef who makes an assortment of nourishing pre-made dishes.

I'm a big stickler on supporting businesses that demonstrate an effort to use low-waste, recyclable, and minimal packaging. Union hall fits the profile on this as well. Most packaging is recyclable, reusable, or hospitable to fit in your own bag.

My mother and I have made a habit to come on weekends for coffee and a walk. If you see us say hi!

      Thanks Union Hall!

Every single employee here is so incredibly nice, warm, and welcoming. It's a great spot to stop in on the weekends after a hike for a pastry and coffee with a great vibe and atmosphere. They have a great local gift shop offering North Salem goods. Love how this place captures all the best aspects of a local small town cafe in North Salem.
