I was looking forward for weeks to play this Allister McKenzie classic course. The course is beautiful and in great shape and the greens were fast and green. My biggest issue was the pace of play. It took us over 5 hours to play and had to wait between every shot. The two reasons for the pace of play was cart path only which mystified me as the fairways except in a couple of places were firm and dry. The other issue was that the put a 5 pack in front of us. Despite complaining to the marshal and the pro shop the only answer we received was "they are members". If the club insists on allowing $400 non-members to play they should abide by proper golf etiquette or turn private.

Finally got to play Pasatiempo and also an Alister MacKenzie designed course. I can understand why Cypress Point, Augusta and Royal Melbourne are regarded as some of the best courses in the world because of the challenge on the 'greens' and using the natural landscape.
No. 1 Hole is a great opening hole; No. 6 you get to see his house, No. 9 that American flag blowing; No. 10 and the stunning barranca; No. 11 is the most challenging; No. 15 shortest hole but deadliest; No. 16 the undulations; and No. 18 par-3 finishing hole!
After the round, sitting on the patio to watch golfers on No. 9 is fun, the atmosphere is chill and the history is what makes a great experience.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - A. C.Mountain View, CA0123May 20, 2023
Love the day we golfed here. The course layout is fantastic. Every hole has its own character, vast and wide, lovely views. One of the reasons we're thrilled to play here is renowned Alister MacKenzie designed the course. It has an interesting history and definitely a keeper. Come check it out.

Played here only because Ive heard ppl say that this is the best public course within 50miles of the bay area.
Overall, its extremely overrated. Condition is definitely above average, but a couple tiers below any private courses. Even among the public courses, I would rate this below Cinnabar Hills and Baylands.
Price is about $400 including cart and taxes. None of their facility is high quality. Shitty club house, shitty putting and short game area, trash practice range. Fairway consistency is their biggest strength.
The track design is definitely great. Rough is forgiving, but the green undulations and bunkers surrounding the bunker provides a lot of defense.
They sanded the greens when we played, but not sure if its always like that or they purposely slowed down the greens. Some greens would be an impossible 2 putt if it had fast greens. A tap and it would just roll back to the fairway.
If you like wasting time and money, this is the perfect course for you. If not, just go to Cinnabar Hills, Calippe, BaylandsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Thom T.Sugar Land, TX0171Oct 24, 2022
I have been waiting on this for years! Very historic golf facility and I could not have been more disappointed. The second star is only out of respect. Not sure how they charge the rates they do with a course in that bad of shape. Staff was awesome, restaurant was great but the course was NOT what I expected. Other than the green bases being severe it did not impress me at all and the greens rolling 6 made it no fun at all. Most disappointed golf experience of my life because of my expectations. Just my honest opinion

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow!
This Golf Club is worthy of a brief royal review.
This Alistair MacKenzie layout in Santa Cruz, California is worthy of the sweaty seat 1,046 mile drive from my home in the desert Southwest across Arizona to Los Angeles and then northward to Santa Cruz.
This is a wonderful piece of contoured land, and the Course fits like a glove. It has reasonable length to ensure every one of your 14 clubs is used!
I considered belonging to this club to ensure it thrives.
It is a Sistine Chapel like monument in the Santa Cruz hillside.
Stop here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John N.Los Angeles, CA77203284Dec 29, 2018
Very nice good course but at $285 a tee time per person, i expected a little more.
The greens were nice, fast, and tricky, tee boxes were nice and even, and there were some scenic holes overlooking the ocean but there were a lot of divots on the fairway and there were a lot of renovation/construction areas.
Having to take a little shuttle to a tiny golf range of the matt was really bad. I mean reqlly really bad. Might be one of the worst golf ranges I've been to.
The course itself and the lay out was absolutely phenomenal. But for the price, you expect a little more from the golf range and i didn't even once see a cart girl.
I know Pasatiempo has a huge cult-like following and i really hoped to join that group but my first experience was less than what i expected.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Adam J.San Jose, CA22411Mar 2, 2021
An absolutely fantastic course. Maintained like none other in the immediate bay area, plays fast, and a lovely view here & there...BUT, BUT, BUT @ $365/pp, no way! Having played ranked courses with very similar design, pristine greens, spongy fairways, and longer tips - this course is overpriced IMO. ;)
Nothing against the course, or the lovely staff (at times), but your money is likely better spent at a Spanish Bay, Spyglass, HMB golf links, or Pebble. Pasatiempo is a $2-250 course at its best! #snsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 11, 2017
Somewhat disappointed actually. It's a good course and on it's own, i'd say 4 stars, but at the price I expected much more. The driving range is also disappointing...hitting off mats and very small and have to take a van shuttle to get over there.
Course is generally good, though surprised many divot marks on fairways and also ball marks on greens were not repaired at all. Also surprised that the course is along a community and houses, i would have expected also more of a secluded feel being over the Santa Cruz mountains. I'd say the Poppy courses are about on par and less expensive or Cinnabar or Coyote Creek.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brandon S.Houston, TX1578561Jun 19, 2018
Phenomenal course. Long par 4's, massive greens. 16 is an incredible hole. Get ready to drive and hit the 3 wood. Greens are very fast and there can definitely be some difficult reads. I also liked the fact that it was not cart-parth only.
The clubhouse restaurant is top-notch clubhouse food: burger and garlic fries are phenomenal. Friendly and quick service as well.
It is not quite as sceniec as Pebble, but as an avid golfer, I enjoyed playing this course more. Definitley get 18 in here if you get the chance.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
