About the Business
We've added to the original hamburger stand with a classic 50s breakfast menu, coffee bar, house made sodas, and a fully stocked bar. The soul of the restaurant stays true to founder Al Cassell's original principles of being a hamburger shop with a focus on premium beef, ground daily in house. All of our burgers are still cooked on Al Cassell's famous original crossfire broiler, ground with the original grinder, and pattied with the original press.

Do they still have 1/3 and 2/3 lb.burgers? And do they still have potato salad with horseradish?
A:
No, the burgers are completely different from what it was 16 years ago. They no longer have the potato salad with horseradish.
Richard O.1 year agoQ:
Are u guys gonna bring back the breakfast burger? Please???? 🙏🏽🤞🏽
A:
Or could they bring back breakfast hours? Or change back the breakfast burrito to cheddar cheese.

Best burgers in koreatown hands down! The location and ambiance make you feel like you're in a different city. I go here all the time with my family and we all love how flavorful the burgers are. The quality is unmatched. It reminds us of the wagyu burgers we experience in Ginza,Tokyo. I'm here at least 5x a month maybe even more. It's a must try if you haven't! Koreatown best kept secret that's right in your face off Normandie and 6th street.

My go-to-place for burgers and milkshakes!
AMBIANCE:
I like the retro vibe going on. Nothing beats the vintage era.
SERVICE:
Friendly. Nothing spectacular about service.
FOOD:
It's a feast! Juicy patty, great flavors!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle L.Los Angeles, CA1652125May 7, 2024
Their own website says they are open till 9pm. We arrived at 8:20 and they refused dine-in service. They should really post that they only offer take out after 8pm so people don't waste a trip to get there (which we did based on what website listed). If we wanted to have soggy burgers we would have just ordered delivery.
Seems more like lazy employees that just want to go home early instead of honoring posted business hours.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dave V.Los Angeles, CA8762Apr 5, 2024Updated review
I decided to give this place another shot after my initial 2015 experience. The first time back, it was ok....pricey for what you get...but a decent burger...but EXCELLENT onion rings. Went back again....burger super over cooked and dry. And the service was odd and chaotic. Two guys working the tables. Confused service. Mistakes in the order. Whatever. I was craving the onion rings and went back one more time..and this will be my last.
On this last visit, the place was pretty empty..only a few tables occupied. Same two waiters. We asked for their delicious onion rings as a starter and burgers afterwards. The waiter just didn't seem like he was listening. As soon as the waiter was gone my friend leaned in and said, 'How much do you want to bet that the onion rings will just come over with the burgers?" I gave them benefit of the doubt.
Food took a long time, again, considering that there were only a few people at the restaurant. The second waiter finally brought our food. Onion rings with the burger. What could we do? If we sent the burgers back that would seem rude. So we kept things the way they were. But the burgers, def not the medium we had ordered. Again, dry little pucks. We reluctantly sent them back.
Waited for a while. Burgers arrived...pretty much the same. Waiter couldn't understand our problem with them. Then, he told us that the kitchen was closing soon and we would have to accept them.
We ate our dry overcooked burgers quickly as they were closing. But then we waited forever for the check. Did either of the two waiters stop by and ask us if we wanted another drink? Or apologize for the chaotic service? Nope.
Talked to another friend who's been here recently and he hit it on the head...they make it a real obstacle course to enjoy yourself here. They have a nice looking place..the burgers have been good in the past. But we were so aggitated the entire time. Did they offer a free refill or not charge for onion rings or anything? No.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 5, 2015Previous reviewLike others here, I have such great memories of the original...or I guess I should say, the last incarnation of Cassell's. But, straight to the point, this is NOT Cassell's. Not even close. Why bother buying the name of such an obscure, but distinctive restaurant if you are going to squash everything that was good about the original.
Yes, the burger is expensive. No, it's not big. No, its' not good. It is bland. Very bland. The meat has no flavor at all.
We brought a friend who had heard us rave about the original..and we were all sorely disappointed...and stuck with a $60 bill...honestly, I would rather have eaten at Fat Burger.
Yes, the place looks nice. The staff was friendly. No refills on the soda (because they are home-made and frou frou)....
I can't imagine this place is going to last. Unless....they go back to the original. The huge, flavorful burger paties...the cool side salad bar...I would go back to that place in a heart beat. - Timothy D.Los Angeles, CA33810Feb 19, 2024
$12 just for a burger? That's crazy. And you have to pay extra for any kind of sauce or it comes dry. No wonder they're not busy any longer.
The last 2 times I ate here it gave me diarrhea. I won't be doing that again.
I will continue going to my favorite place in Pasadena, Russell's for premium burgers. Higher quality at a better price. And no more of the runs.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 8315540May 9, 2024
We were in LA and wanted a family friendly place that served good food - and this place did not disappoint! We got there and were seated right away, we seemed to have beat the rush as they did get busier as we were there. The food was delicious, no kids menu but everything is a la carte so ordered what we wanted and shared with the toddler. He devoured their veggie burger which was so tasty! I had their salad which was super delicious. The staff was so friendly and patient as we figured out what to order - and the waitress was so kind to listen to my kids rambling robot story! Bookmarking as we will be back when we come to LA

We came here with friends because it was highly rated. We had a large party and were seated right away on a late Saturday afternoon. My man and I both ordered the 1/4 LB burger. I got cole slaw and he got potato salad. The slaw was ok. The potato salad looked like mashed potatoes but was cold and had the salad flavor. Weird. You order the burger and extras like cheese and grilled onions are each an extra $1.50. So a $12 burger becomes a $15.00 burger. The burger was good but not magical. Friends had cocktails and some had milkshakes. We split a chocolate shake which was yummy. The restrooms are in the hotel next door. Street metered parking is around. We parked 3 blocks away.

Great burger spot and the seasoning is amazing on the fries. It is pretty pricy just for a burger and fries and there is seating but I took to go since it was pretty busy. Overall it tasted good but I would not recommend.

Finally got to try the one and only cassells cheeseburger. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant it sits inside Normandie hotel on a busy corner with lots of windows. The burger blew me away at first bite. So did the prices. At least they had a happy hour special when I went to soften the blow. Loved their special sauce as well as their ranch!

This place was surprisingly very good. I was visiting my uncle in Koreatown and he said "Let's go have hamburgers for lunch at a diner." Looked up locations on Yelp and this place looked really pretty based on pictures.
Not exactly sure where the official parking is, but we found a 1-2 hour parking on the curb right next to the establishment.
Looks exactly like their pictures on Yelp. They had many pies too. The burgers were delicious. Fries were absolutely amazing. I didn't think I'd get full, but I took half my fries on the way out. Their sauce is delicious. Service was as expected.
We had the fire alarm go off a few times during our dining, but it was okay. Didn't really bother us.
Location looks decent. Definitely in a "cleaner" part of Los Angeles. Not one of those places you search on Yelp and realize it's at the end of a strip mall in a dirty part of town. No, this place is classy.
Highly recommend! Looking forward to my next meal here. :)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 28, 2023
I've been wanting to try Cassells for a while and finally had the chance this week. Ordered it via UberEats, below is what I tried:
1/3lb Cheeseburger (Cassell's Classic) - 4 Stars. Solid burger served on a tasty bun with all the fixins on the side. This is definitely robust with flavor and complemented well w 1000 Island Sauce.
Fries - 3 Stars. Not sure if this was due to delivery, but these fries didn't arrive well. On the soggy side and a little bland, heating them up didn't fix them either.
Overall the hamburgers are the star here, and definitely more filling than a traditional smashburger which is all the rage right now. Definitely has a classic vibe to it that I really enjoyed.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2
