After visiting Amboy crater Frankie (My dog) and I decided to stop at the town of Amboy. I had not been here since the new owner fixed things up including the sign. When I was a college student (~1993) I remember visiting Amboy and met Roy the original owner. On that visit I even ate at the diner and had a chili size. So this visit was special to me because I wanted to see what the current owner has been up to. The restored sign looks awesome and the hotel bungalows were open so one could walk inside. Pretty cool. The diner did not sell food but they had a lot of Amboy shirts and hats for sale and miscellaneous Route 66 items. I hope they get the kitchen in the diner functioning again. A great visit and worth getting off Insterstate 40 to see some good old Route 66 history. I got my kicks on Route 66 that morning.

$18 for this cool Roy's hat.

Came here from Orange County, CA just to visit Vince and get some merch!! Great stop with AMAZING snacks, drinks, ice cream and souvenirs. My dog loved walking around and exploring. Can't wait to stop by again on our way back in a couple of days. Vince is such a great guy! Ask him anything and he's got the 411 ‍ tell him Grace sent you! haha

This is a far flung corner of nowhere, where crows will not even fly there to die. Being in the desert the light is spectacularly clear, leading to sharp lines and shadows for this little mid century modern haven. The restaurant and motel are no longer operating, so don"t count on staying or having a sit downeal. There is a small convenience store at the gas station.

Certainly worth a stop by to see this cultural oddity which at one point was doing ok, but now it is barely hanging on. This should on the national register of mid century modern roadside stop bys.

I'm glad we stopped. The inside of the gas station/gift shop is quite nice compared to the harsh midday environment. The Manager was very nice and informative. We took a little walk around the property to look at authentic route 66 gas pumps, road signs, advertising. While we were there, others pulled up and did the same. It was a nice, very real experience and we'll do it again just to support them for preserving this area.

There is something so cool about the desert. I love these historic locations and these out in the boondocks dying towns that are surviving. I wish the owner would restore those little motel rooms. We visited nearby Amboy crater and would've of loved to see all the stars at night while hanging out at this location.

      I gueeeeesss!!!

      Gas is REALLY expensive.

      Also, it's full service.

There's nothing there really just mostly the nostalgia of the old hotel and that one little gas station/store/restaurant/rest stop.

The attendant said they always film things there.

There was a bus full of Norwegian tourists some bikers and cyclists...and us. Because we missed the road towards Laughlin.

I'm glad we stopped by but I wouldn't ever go on purpose. Still...you should see it at least once!

Soooooooooooo cool. I wish I could rent this place out. Actually, I wish they would let photographers get in that school and other buildings to shoot pictures. It would actually promote the town. Great place to grab a coke or a drink but dont plan on getting a meal, this cafe has not been operating for many years.
