Wxyz Bar

I went to Wxyz Bar on a beautiful August Friday at 4:30pm for happy hour. Somehow in my mind, I thought it was on the roof, but it is not, it's ground floor, so, if you're like my and always imagining places are on the roof, don't be surprised.

So I walk in and I am the only person in the bar. On a Friday, at 4:30. Sometimes, being the only person someplace is not necessarily a bad thing, it could be weird timing or bad weather, but this was not that.

I ask the bartender what's on happy hour and she, kind of curtly, said, they don't do happy hour. Maybe before coronavirus, yada yada. I said, "It's been posted multiple times on your social media in the last several weeks" and pull it up on my phone to show her. She says that she'll give me a dollar of house wine, I get a glass of pinot grigio and have her cash me out because there's too many other good places to go to, no need to waste time on bad specials on bad wine.

Eventually the manager comes over and they figure out that the social media person was posting this but never talked with the bar about it. Strange. I may go back if they post the actual menu if it looks decent, because the location is a good kicking off point for a downtown romp.

The hotel was having technical difficulties and was unable to assign our room. So they told us that we could have a drink on them. Well we headed to the WXYZ bar to await our room. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. I chose a whiskey sour and he chose a tequila sour. I had never heard of a tequila sour and had a taste of his. It was delicious. And I'm not a tequila drinker. I guess you can put anything with bitters and it will taste good. Haha. We tried some of the Bourbon punch that they offered us but that was a bit on the strong side for me. I did not see anyone ordering food, so I'm not sure if they served food but I don't think they did. They have a bunch of great areas to chill including an outdoor patio area with a great view of the bustling city. They also have a pool table that would be fun if you're in the mood. Our room was soon ready and it was time to check in. If you're in the area check this place out. You don't have to have a room there to enjoy the bar area so don't worry about that. Cheers!

Drinks were delicious. They have a sampling of appetizers (which we did not try) They have an outdoor seating area, indoor seating area with bar and a pool table. Located in the David Whitney hotel lobby.

Kevin was amazing, he was so enjoyable to talk to and he made the best drinks (specifically recommend the old fashioned) such a great bar to visit and love our stay at the aloft hotel.

Bleh. Great bartender, very good drinks. Nice atmosphere for a hotel bar. Not very good pizza. Cold, soggy from olive oil, awful. Homemade chips were uncooked, cold and terrible. Have a drink. Avoid the food.

We stayed at Aloft Detroit and we came across the bar in the hotel. They had Guinness in a nitro can which not many bars have back home and they had a full bar, pool table, indoor and outdoor seating, and a nice warm fire pit outside. Amelia our bartender was excellent and friendly and we had a fairly lengthy conversation with her before it got busy. She made us want to come back the next night.

Really thought this place was great. We had a company event here and they allowed us to bring in our own catered food to go along with the drinks that we were purchasing at the bar. Do warn them in advance if you will have a group, because this place isn't really used to doing high volumes of drinks. instead, they put a lot of time and attention into each drink, and without proper warning might not have the staff to keep up with a big group.

Drink quality was wonderful, the staff was attentive, and the hotel is just beautiful.

This location is not closed. It states it's closed but it is alive and kickin. Love it here!! Always a great time! The DJ plays a great mix too.

Wonderful place! Our first time here and everyone was so nice and accommodating. The dip we ordered was delicious, and the drinks were top notch! Great atmosphere too...thanks folks! We'll come back!!
